These are all examples of energy drinks, and many of us have turned to these drinks to help us get energy. Many people have asked if energy drinks are really that bad for you. The main ingredient in energy drinks is caffeine, a “central nervous system stimulant, which activates noradrenaline and serotonin neurons” (Park). Caffeine is something everyone craves when they are tired or have no energy, whether that be in a soda, energy drink, tea, or coffee. Not only does caffeine help you be more aware and stay awake, but the drinks that have caffeine in them also taste good. The taste is a big reason people drink energy drinks. I know that is the main reason I drink my favorite energy drink rooster booster. One reason that caffeine, the main ingredient in energy drinks, is a threat to the body is because it is addictive. This causes energy drinks to be addictive, and in energy drinks, “the actual amount of caffeine content in energy drinks may be higher than that reported in their labels (Table 1)”, so the levels of caffeine on the level is usually not even correct (Seifert). Why, because the correct level would scare people away from buying them because it contains too high of levels of caffeine. The inventers of energy drinks are going through every loophole to hide what is really in energy drinks so they will stay a popular drink. If they did not hide the levels energy drinks popularity would go way down or even banned for being sold to the public.
