Did you know that sports injuries are becoming a big problem in sports today. To help educate people about concussions because there serious and we need to step up and stop these from happening. A lot of people think it’s improper technique, but I think it is their terrible helmets that need to be built better and there technique too. Players are going to continue to get hurt if we don’t step up and stop these injuries from happening.
The first way to prevent sports injuries is by educating people about it. In most sports today concussions are the main injury. “Wear the appropriate equipment for the sport and wear it properly”(BIANJ Sports Concussions). Head to head accidents happen a lot in sports, especially football, hockey, soccer,

and lacrosse. Most sports today made rules to prevent this. ”Play by the rules and the injuries will happen less ” (BIANJ Sports Concussions). It’s sad to see people getting hurt in sports because of concussions. There is more to preventing concussion in sports. All people in sports need to be educated about concussions. With the right education or right equipment you can prevent concussions from happening. We need to prevent concussions by building better helmets and following the guidelines.
In 2006 concussion were really bad for sports and now concussions changed with a 53.9% difference from 2006. “Analyzing helmet sensor data on 1.2 million head impacts sustained by more than 1,800 football players on eight collegiate teams, along with the number of diagnosed concussions they suffered, over a six-year period between 2005 and 2010, researchers identified a 53.9% reduction of concussion risk associated with a newer model of Riddell helmet, the Revolution” (Mom Team). Lowering concussion is important because concussions are really bad. We need to find a concussion proof helmet that will stop all brain injuries. “ The bottom line is that there are no "concussion proof" helmets currently on the market and nor have mouth guards been shown by any peer-reviewed study to reduce the risk of concussions so, while researchers are hard at work to design helmets and mouth guards that mitigate the collective impacts absorbed by the brain in such a way as to dissipate the harmful energy that occurs during repeated impacts, such equipment appear to be a long way off” (Mom Team). Concussions will happen less if we find the perfect helmet that can substance helmet to helmet contact. If soccer players wear head gear a lot of the players won’t get injured. “Teenage soccer players who wear protective headgear suffer nearly half as many concussions as those who play without protective …show more content…
headgear, according to a 2008 study[1] conducted by researchers at Canada's McGill University” (Mom Team). People just need to just use their heads and wear head protection in soccer. With people finding better helmets and wearing helmets in other sports concussions will decrease wildly. People need to learn good concussion training to prevent less concussions.
If a player gets hurt in the game these are the things you need to do. “Keep an athlete with a possible concussion out of play on the same day of the injury and until cleared by a healthcare provider and do not try to judge the severity of the injury yourself” (Brain Injury Safety Tips). If the person that has a concussion that goes back into a game they can get even worse of a concussion. A person that has concussion need to be symptom free. When there symptom free they will be cleared to play sports. You should always share your symptom with the doctors. “Record and share the injury, such as how it happened and the athlete’s symptoms, to help health care provider assess the athlete” (Brain Injury Safety Tips). Concussions are a big deal. With people knowing all these steps concussions won’t be a big
deal. Sports injuries are a big problem, and it will be difficult to stop without anyone’s help. Help educate people about concussions because there serious and we need to step up and stop these from happening. A lot of people say this problem is from terrible sportsmanship, but I think the main problem is from bad technique. Players need to step up and learn proper technique and better sportsmanship.
For the safety of the players in the present and future, a stricter concussion protocol should be required at all levels of football. Though improvements have been made, the game of football is constantly changing and the protocol needs to keep up with the changes. Today’s athletes are bigger, stronger, and faster than ever before: "Size and physical conditioning techniques in sports at all levels have evolved to create an intense athlete. They 're able to create more force, power and speed than ever before and that leads to harder hits and a greater number of hits" (Neporent). These advances in training have led to a more dangerous sport. The protocol has improved in recent years along with an emphasis on player safety, but the increasing numbers of players with long-term effects of concussions show there is still work to be done.
Players are using their heads as a weapon which is careless, dangerous, and should be banned from the sport. A lot of time and money has been invested in improving football helmets. Quinn and Brachmann emphasizes that “There’s a strongly held belief that no matter how much time and money is invested into research and development there will never be a helmet that is truly concussion-proof ” (Quinn and Brachmann). Helmets have been effective in preventing skull fractures, but not concussions. Helmet manufacturers are researching and trying to develop safer protective head
Injuries are a huge part in professional sports. When playing a professional sport athletes do not always take into consideration that their bodies are vulnerable to injuries. One of the leading injuries that can end athlete’s career is concussion. According Kia Boriboon author of the article “Concussion Management In Football: Don 't Shake It Off” concussion occurs when the brain repeatedly collides with the skull. Concussions are serious and cannot be taken lightly they are detrimental to a person’s athletic career as well as life. Players who have suffered from a concussion or like symptoms of a concussion are at risk and should not continue playing their sport until cleared by a medical doctor, who is an expert in concussions. If concussions are not treated with the appropriate medical care, it can cause physical and mental health problems for athletes well after their professional career have ended. In
The goal is to achieve and to attain certain knowledge of concussions and proper helmet safety and to propose new suggestions to help decrease the incidence of sports-related concussions.
That’s where the advancements in concussion detection and treatment comes into play. According to the article “Advancements in Concussion Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment” the writer states “the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported 207,830 trips to an emergency room annually between 2001 and 2005 due to sports participation injuries” ( “Advancements in Concussion Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment | The Sport Journal” ). The report from the CDC shows how many reported sports injuries occur in a short period. However, this does not include the vast number of injuries not reported every year. That is a lot of injuries that go unreported and not cared for. We can help make it to where all kids after a concussion report it and get treated by educating them on the dangers they face if they continue to play as they are and tell them they will be right back to playing after the testing has been completed and they are clear to play again. This is not hard to do it’s just the fact of telling the kids the truth of the matter and them knowing the tests aren’t hard and don’t take long to pass. But the kids need to know this is needed if they want to be able to play for years to come in school and even in
Concussions have become arguably the #1 most prevalent issue in football today. The number of concussions throughout football has been rising for the past 20-30 years and there seems no way of stopping them. However, the NFL and many private researchers are set on finding a way to conquer this issue. They want to stop these concussions from happening and prevent the diseases resulting from them that have ruined so many football families’ lives. In order to solve this problem, I think that these researchers need to combine all of their knowledge to solve an issue that so many want solved. As soon as we conquer this “illness” we can return to enjoying the game that we love.
Keeping plenty of emergency personnel’s on the scene for emergency precautions. This is another great way to keep all players safe. If a player thinks they might have a concussion they should always tell their coach. A player should also be allowed to set out of the game if they think they might have a concussion.
Concussions can spring from practically anywhere; at home during cleaning, playing catch in the yard, or even slipping and falling. One of the most common reasons concussions happen is from sports, most often from football. It should be common knowledge on the symptoms of a concussion and what to do to help it heal, especially coaches. Because of the mindset that coaches give towards their players and the spirit of the game, athletes do not report their injuries to their coaches. One reports states, “The culture of sports negatively influences athletes’ self-reporting of concussion symptoms and their adherence to return-to-play guidance” (Waldron). This means that athletes could have any injury, not just a concussion, and they would be afraid to tell the coach because they are afraid of getting taken out of the game. More coaches, however, are starting to come around to educating the team and support staff about head injuries. Some coaches are actually sitting their teams down and making them watch a video on what happens during a concussion. In one report, the athletes said that after they watched the video, “they would be su...
Each year, U.S emergency departments treat an estimate 173,285 sports and recreation concussions. During the last decade concussions increased by 60%. Fewer than 10% of concussions result in loss of conscious. Most people recover from a single concussion. Multiple concussions take longer to recover from. The concussion Clinic at Nationwide Children’s Hospital utilizes the expertise of pediatric sports medicine, physical medicine, and rehabilitation specialists.
Recreational athletes, competitive athletes, high school athletes, college athletes, and professional athletes all have one thing in common: the risk of a concussion. It's impossible to go a season without one athlete from a team receiving a concussion. The more that these concussions are studied, the more we learn about them, such as their detrimental effects on athletes. Because of the risk of health issues and death that come with concussions, doctors, coaches, athletic trainers, and lawmakers are stepping in to protect athletes of all levels from receiving concussions.
Whether you lose consciousness or not, when you are hit and impacted in the head during a sport, you could suffer from a concussion. Many football players and hockey players get hit extremely hard in the head during their games, the impact can cause brain damage, stunt essential growth, and have long term effects. Athletes who have suffered from a concussion should get cleared by a medical professional before heading back to the field or rink. Although athletes want to strive to achieve a scholarship and get back on the field, this could be detrimental to their overall health, presently and in the future.
Football is one of the most popular sports in the world. It is played in a lot of different ways, fashions, and other countries. It can be a very brutal sport with players hitting at the intent to hurt one another. With these intents come great consequences. In recent years the head injuries involved with this brutal game play have been getting uncomfortably high. Many rules have had to be enforced for player safety, because of the increase of head injuries resulting in tragic effects on players both old and new. One of the injuries that have had the most devastating effects is the concussion.
David Camarillo, a former football player, discusses why helmets do not protect against concussion in his TedTalk. He starts off his discussion by saying “a repeated history of concussion can lead to early dementia such as Alzheimer’s…” (Camarillo, TedTalk). Mild traumatic brain injuries affect as many as
Brain injuries can play a major role in football. Reoccurring concussions also occur due to these brain injuries, and cause these athletes permanent damage. Trainers and doctors in the medical field diagnose these brain injuries by loss of consciousness, slurred speech, loss of balance, and loss of memory. In football, they could improve the safety of the helmets; improve the rules, or safety regulations in all sports to help prevent concussions.
One of the most pressing issues within physical contact sports is the amount of Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) sustained by the players on both professional and amateur levels. This particular topic has been debated over numerous times, arguing whether or not there should be more safety regulations within these particular sports. Many people suggest that adding more regulations will impact the sports taking away from their original entertainment. However, one can clearly see the endangerment these athletes face with long term brain trauma, and how certain steps should be enforced in order to avoid this.
