There are many different views of drugs, some find drugs fun, stress relieving, however nearly most of the time people never really consider the consequences. Alcohol and cocaine are some of the most used drugs that affects many old and young users. A reason that alcohol is abused is because the fact that it is accepted in society. People drink to be socialize, it is included in parties or celebrations. One reason for individuals using cocaine is because of movies and musics promoting the use of cocaine as a kind of entertainment nowadays. Alcohols, unlike foods, can pass rapidly and effectively into the bloodstream since it doesn't need to be processed. After it gets into the bloodstream, alcohol makes its way rapidly through the body
That being said, drugs and alcohol, can cause ones to lose their lifestyle and even their loved ones. Using and abusing drugs and alcohol can also lead to addiction. This creates a whole different empire in one’s life. Some may even steal, lie and cheat, just to obtain their ability to get there next fix. Alcohol is a colorless, volatile flammable liquid that is the intoxicating constituent of wine, beer, spirits, and other drinks and is also used as an industrial solvent and as fuel. Alcohol is a drug and it is classed as a depressant, meaning that it will slow down vital functions. Alcohol is made out of a chemical called ethanol. To make alcohol, they need to have the grains, fruits or vegetables go through a process called fermentation.
The consequences that follow the use of any drug are unfavorable. Although many individuals may see drug addiction as a mere lifestyle choice, it is a problem that many individuals suffer from and inevitably a growing issue that leaves major social and economic impacts.
Substance abuse can cause lower grades, leading to becoming less involved in school activities, skipping school because of lack of interest and possibly dropping out all together. Drug use can lead to chaos in the home, resulting in domestic violence, lack of communication, which can cause relationships to become strained and broken. The teen may need more of the substance to get the full effect or high because of the tolerance hey have built up against the substance. They may also feel that they cannot function or go through the day without using the drug. Teens that use drugs or alcohol generally have had something in their life lead to that consumption.
Drug use is not healthy for the body because it not only affects the user, but that person’s potential spouse and children. If it wasn’t for that experimental side civilization would not be where it is today. Even ancient Greece used a special mixture of beer to induce hallucinations, or they would also partake in using opium to stimulate their minds and get the creative flow started. Drugs in the past weren’t always used just for recreational use; they did have a part in the medicinal field. Doctors of ancient times would give the patients a prescription depending on their ailments. Opium was used as a headache medicine, pain reliever or even a stress reliever. The use of opium has even been used up until recently in the civil war in the United States, even former President Harrison was given opium to try and help with pneumonia. What happens behind closed doors at colleges and universities is a mystery to most people. In the United States, the most frequent thing happening behind closed doors is binge drinking. Binge drinking is the rapid consumption of alcoholic beverages and it is seen and a widespread issue among colleges. Quick consumptions of drinks can result in poisoning and death along with many more safety and health issues. College students also feel very rebellious when it comes to drinking before they are twenty-one. An effective way to reduce binge drinking and the issues involved with it such as death and drunk driving, the legal drinking age should be lowered to eighteen. Doing this would help to calm down the college population.

In the second chance program, I’ve learned a lot about the real life effects of doing drugs and underage drinking. I learned that when you do something wrong you have to deal with the consequences. I’ve also learned about more of the physical side effects, like nausea, tooth decay, depression, addiction, brain damage, skin damage, etc. I learned that you aren't cooler or seen as a better person while doing drugs and drinking, and that it can isolate you from your friends and family. I learned that no matter how many bad decisions you’ve made, you can always come back from that with the help and support of others.
