9/11, a compendium of stories
9/11. A horrible act viewed by many, where 4 ill-fated planes were hijacked and propelled into important super-structures, and pastures, is broadcasted on the news on every anniversary of this travesty, and every time, eye-witness stories show up. These stories are often talked about for a large amount of time, but with the numerous accounts of that fateful day, nobody can get all of their stories. I would like to show you some of the most obscure stories that are often overlooked by many. From people in a different country, people right in the tower, and residents of the island of Manhattan, everyone was affected on that fateful day, so what exactly are those stories?
On September 11, 2001, four planes were hijacked by Iraqi’s, and sent to destroy government buildings. Two planes hit the World Trade

Center’s North and South buildings, causing them to collapse and take other WTC buildings with it. Another plane was flown straight towards the Pentagon in Washington D.C. The final plane was heading towards the White House in D.C., but with the retaliation of passengers, it was crashed in a Pennsylvania field. This is just a small summary of the events that occurred on the day that the world stood still. A very phenomenal story that I found through research was from a flight attendant in a plane heading to Newfoundland. The crew on a Delta plane were flying at cruising altitude when they received a fax from tower control. They reported terrorist activity and ordered all planes to land at the nearest airport. Which unluckily for the riders, was five hours away in Canada. They were quite nervous about telling the passengers fearing they would go into a fret about what had happened, and the crew didn’t know much about the event themselves. They decided to tell the unknowing passengers that they were turning around because of an instrument malfunction on the aircraft. Hours later, they received another fax telling the crew in detail what had happened, the World Trade Centers had been hit with two planes. Once they had landed in the airport, there were 53 other planes waiting to be permitted to deplane. That didn’t happen for about 10 hours. Security came and gave food, drink, and lavatory services to passengers who needed it. They had ended up getting out their suitcases and sleeping in the plane overnight. Once they were given permission to leave, they were strangers in a foreign country, luckily the residents were superbly kind. All high schools had been generously closed and it was mandatory for students to help the stranded passengers. There were over 10,000 people from that single airport, so they had to be spread across the towns. Elderly and people who needed special assistance were kept in private homes. As an example to show their helpfulness, a lady who was 33 weeks into her pregnancy was kept in a house with a nurse, doctor, and across the street from a 24 hour urgent care. Once the airports were reopened 3 days later, passengers were ready to continue their flights, but were happier than they were before. Each person was sharing their stories about how they were given boat tours, and had fantastic food, just a small portion of what all were given. A wealthy business man on the flight promised to make a trust fund to send the students to college. Once the flight had ended, over fourteen-hundred dollars had been raised for the fund. The man then contacted Delta and inquired them to donate. Since that day, over 1 million dollars has been raised and 158 students from that area were sent to college. Secondly, once the towers collapsed, a large dust cloud covered the city.
People were trying to get out of its path, but there was water in the way from the mainland. People were trying to swim off the island and were nearly getting run over by boats. People were trying to jump on boats and were almost sinking them. After an hour of struggle, a plan finally emerged. A retired Coast Guard Worker used a HAM radio at a lifeguard station telling all boats that the World Trade Center towers had collapsed. At first, nobody expected more than 20 boats, but it ended up being north of 500 boats. It was a wide assortment of huge tug boats, large ferries, lavish coast guard boats, humongous private boats, quaint diving boats, party boats, sail boats. Any boat imaginable was there. “If it floated, and it could get there, it got there,” engineer of the Mary Gellatly Robin Jones recalls. This ended up getting 500,000 New Yorkers off of the island, taking them to the Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, anywhere they would be safe. This ended up being the largest boat lift in history, leading the previous largest boat lift occurring in
WWII. My 3rd and final story is about a lucky man who was in the South Tower and was forced to evacuate from his business meeting. This man, Joe Dittmar, was quite annoyed to have to leave a business meeting when he heard that there was an explosion in the North Tower. This had of course happened before in the year of 1993. His co-workers decided to catch the elevator but he decided to go down the seemingly never-ending staircase. He was heading down the stairs and saw ladies’ shoes, and men’s briefcases strewn across the floor. Before he could come to the realization of what was going on, the doomed flight flew in to the building just 2 floors above him. He described the moment after the plane hit as silent, he started running down the stairs to escape, unluckily so, everyone else had the same idea. People were stampeding to get back to their loved ones, men, women, all trampled to the ground by others. Something Dittmar recalls the most is someone singing God Bless America over the intercom. Nobody ever found out what happened to him. Then, a woman came on the intercom encouraging people to go as fast as humanly possible, telling them that this day will forever be remembered in American history. In conclusion, No matter how far, or close you are from a tragedy, it can still effect you wherever you are. I encourage you to ask your relatives where they were on this remembered day and let their tales be known.
There are a bunch of conspiracies in this world and there's a few on the tragedy that happened on September 11, 2001. One of the theories is that inside traders knew about the attacks before they happened. As said in an article, “in the days before 9/11 there was a huge increase in the number of put options purchased on their airlines, compared to the normal average daily volume.”(Davis) Before I explain what that means the article also mentioned, “ this huge increase in the volume of put options suggests that the people buying these put options knew in advance that 9/11 was about to happen.” (Davis) What the quotes are saying, is that a few days before 9/11, out of nowhere, there was an huge increase in the airlines, that were hijacked, stock markets. The conspiracy theory is that the government was aware of the attacks the entire time but because they were making profit, this did nothing about it.
September 11, 2001 was a day that Americans and the world for that matter will not soon forget. When two planes went into the twin towers of the World Trade Center and two others went into the Pentagon and a small town in Pennsylvania, the world was rocked. Everyone in the United States felt very vulnerable and unsafe from attacks that might follow. As a result, confidence in the CIA, FBI, and the airlines were shaken. People were scared to fly after what had happened.
The official story of 9/11 is a conspiracy theory in that the government claims 19 hijackers conspired together to hijack four planes and create terror in the world. Four American airplanes were hijacked; two were driven into the World Trade Centers and the third airplane into the Pentagon. The fourth airplane suspected target was the White House, but it was diverted by the brave men and women aboard that hijacked airplane, and crashed the airline jet before it could reach its target. It was like time stood still as America watched through television broadcast these unbelievable and horrifying events taking place. The reports told of the smell the jet fuel, burning flesh, and people jumping out windows to their death to escape the flames. When the two bravura structures tumbling down, rescuers, (police officers, firefighters, and ambulance drivers and techs) were caught in the mast and lost their lives doing their job trying to save lives.
On the morning of September 11/2001, 19 terrorist working for the Al Qaeda terrorist organization hijacked four commercial planes. They attempted to fly them into multiple U.S targets. One of the planes, American Airlines, flight 11, crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center at 8:50 a.m. Another plane, United Airlines, flight 175, crashed into the south tower at 9:04 a.m. These tragedies took the lives of nearly 3000 people and affected the lives of millions.
Soon after, Flight 175 attacked the South Tower. By the end of the day, both towers had collapsed and other hijacked flights had caused damage. The amount of lives lost on September 11 was substantial; 2,749 people from eighty-three different countries died from the attacks (Facts about the attacks., n.d.). All in all, America has changed forever. Research Many conspiracy theories have been developed concerning what happened to the World Trade Centers on September 11, 2001, but there are a select few that, similar to the truth, cannot be disproved without quite a bit of effort.
One of the most devastating terrorist attacks in United States history, 9/11, has taken the
September 11, 2001 is known as the worst terrorist attack in United States history. On a clear Tuesday morning, there were four planes that were hijacked and flown into multiple buildings by a terrorist group named al Qaeda. This group, led by Osama bin Laden, killed nearly 3,000 people. Out of those 3,000 people more than 400 police and 343 firefighters were killed along with 10,000 people who were treated for severe injuries. Many lives were taken, and to this day, people still suffer from the attack. September 11th is the most influential event of the early twenty-first century because it made an increase in patriotism, it caused a rise in security throughout the nation, and it had a tremendous effect of thousands of lives.
I. After all, there is approximately 100,000 people in New York that have post-traumatic stress disorder.
There were numerous events and threats leading up to the terrorists attacks on the World Trade Center which left chaos amongst the streets of downtown New York City and would leave America and its families devastated and prone to change after this infamous date in our nation’s history. What happened on September 11th, 2001 was without a doubt both horrific and ill natured. Multiple terrorists hijacked several US airliners that would later be flown into the North and South towers, the Pentagon, and also an unintended area in Pennsylvania. It can be said that the United States of America was unprepared and vulnerable for these occurrences.
On September 11, 2001 terrorists crashed two American airline airplanes into Twin Towers, killing thousands of people. It was the worst terrorist attack in American history and it showed us that we are not protected by Atlantic and Pacific. It showed us that we could be attacked by anyone at anytime. It showed us that if we will be attacked again that we can only depend on each other and not on other nations to help us. The 9/11 changed people forever, some lost family members or friends, others lost their jobs even so called “American Dream.”
Some of us might remember how beautiful it was this day, how blue and clear the sky was. September 11, 2001 is not just a regular day anymore it marks the day terrorists attacked, not only New York but also America. Much like Pearl Harbor this is the day we were taken off guard and the day we struck back and went to war. With everything stripped away from us and no sense of what was going on, a country that was just fine on September 10, 2011 was now broken, on such a beautiful day such terror occurred. According to The Best American Magazine Writing in the article “Experts from the Encyclopedia of 9/11” there is a quote that reads, “Many of us remember going to work that week, searching for an appropriate journalistic response to a world that was changing in ways we couldn’t yet see.”(page 107) When our country was expecting failure and loss of control, we pulled together as a nation and started picking up the pieces from this tragedy that tore us apart this day. After reading this article I asked myself, how could anyone do such a horrible thing? Why would anyone want to give the...
9/11 was one of the darkest days in America, but some say the government could have been part of these attacks. For many years people have debated about the 9/11 cover up. This theory cannot explain why the government would do this. Once people understand why the 9/11 cover up is fake, they will begin to see the answer to their problem, could the government have done this? This conspiracy theory is wrong because, terrorists admitted to the attacks, so many people died, and there's no evidence against the government.
On September 11, 2001 four planes were hijacked by an Islamic group lead by Osama Bin Laden. Each plane had a different target. One plane crashed into the Pentagon around 10am ,another plane crashed into the north Twin Tower around 8am and another plane hit the south tower 29 minutes later. The last plane was aiming for the White House but the citizens on the plane took back over the plane knowing it was going to crash.
Millions of people were shocked to see this event taking place, metal, wood, and even glass objects falling out of the sky including people from the impact of the plane when it had hit the building. Firemen and policemen, waiting under the buildings moving in to rescue people that needed help. When the south tower collapsed all the firemen and policemen were crushed from the falling impact, including the people that were in the building in the south tower. Little under thirty minutes the north tower collapsed as well leaving huge clouds of dust and smoke, covering the whole entire city of New
On that tragic day of September 11, 2001 many Americans lost their lives, and our country was changed forever. Everyone in this room was affected by the attack of 9/11. If you have gone through airport security, or listened to Blake’s speech on the phone tapping, these are things that have resulted from this one event, in hopes of keeping America safe. George W. Bush was president of the United States at the time and had to deliver an Address to the Congress the evening of 9/20 that was watched by not only Americans, but also the world. President Bush addressed the American people and both houses of Congress to declare a “global war
