April 30, 2017 Stress is something all people battle with, some more severe than others. Stress, by definition, is a physical, chemical, or emotional factor that causes bodily, or mental tension (Merriam Webster Dictionary). We experience stress when things are not going perfectly. Long term stress can severely affect our health, bodies, and brains. Although while we are stressed we may think there is no way to escape the problem, we can solve the issue. Stress is a very common problem people have to handle with.

Many affects are harmful to your well-being. When stressed, your body's liver produces extra glucose, also known as blood sugar, which gives you a boost of energy. Under chronic stress, your body may not be able to hold all this extra glucose. This leads to a higher risk in developing type 2 diabetes. Issues with the digestive system, are the most common health concern with stress (Pietrangelo). Heart disease, high blood pressure, chest pain, and an irregular heartbeat can be elements of health issues. Stress is also another cause of bad acne (Lehnardt). Meditation is a way to avoid experiencing stress. Deep breathing, yoga, Tai Chi, and getting a massage are forms of meditation that help dodge stress. When we have stress, our breathing, pulse rate, metabolism, and blood pressure increase (Stöppler). When we use a form of meditation, they decrease. Another way to meditate to avoid stress is to sit quietly and breathe in and out while repeating a word. Doing this for 10-20 minutes daily will increase your quality of life and reduce stress. We can use forms of meditation to avoid stress.
Another way to manage stress is to exercise. There are many benefits from exercising while stressed. Any physical activity raises the production of endorphins, which are your brain's neurotransmitters that make you feel good. After a fast paced game or activity, you will begin to notice that you have forgotten about everything that aggravated you that day. The good stress, or “eustress”, plays a significant factor in motivation, adaptation, and reaction to the environment. Positive stress also helps enhance one’s athletic performance. Excessive stress, on the other hand, can unleash all the negative sides and cause a myriad of health risks. Bad stress can increase the risk of strokes, heart attacks, ulcers, dwarfism and mental illnesses such as depression.
Exercise regularly. Physical activity plays a key role in reducing and preventing the effects of stress. Nothing beats aerobic exercise for releasing pent-up stress and tension.
Everyone has different things that cause stress for them. It is an effect of day to day life and some have more than others. How does stress affect your life? Depending on your stress, rather it be acute stress, episodic stress, or chronic stress. Acute stress comes from recent happening and events that have happened recently, or are soon expected. According to “The Stress Solution” by Lyle H. Miller, PhD, and Alma Dell Smith, PhD, “acute stress causes: emotional distress, muscular problems, sickness of stomach, rapid heartbeat, and/or sweaty palms.” This kind of stress can build up on anyone and dealt with easily.
Other techniques to reducing stress, is listening to music, pampering yourself a massage/spa day, talking it out to family/friends, baking/cooking, praying/meditating and even playing with your pet.
Stress can come from any event or thought that makes us feel frustrated, angry, or nervous. All of us experience stress and usually cope with it well. Stress is an omnipresent part of life and is a reaction to external stimuli that disturb our physical or mental equilibrium. It is a system in our body that helps us to deal with real danger and / or perform at our best. Any event or happening that induces stress is called stressor.
Skin problems: stress aggravates the skin and will cause skin conditions such as acne and eczema. Stress is also relation to rashes which are unexplained and itchy.
What is stress? Stress is state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances. Stress can from depression, work, and much more. One doctor says, “Stress is a silent disease.”
Certain types of stress are normal and healthy. We need a certain amount of stress to become motivated and achieve our goals. What is stress? You will find that stress is about too much work and that will make you stress. Actually stress is one physical response to someone, something or environment that make you feel uncomfortable, upset and threatened. Stressors refer to the causes of stress and the effects as the response.
...Three techniques that I use and other people can use to cope with stress are practicing emotion-focused coping, building time-management skills, and regularly practicing meditation. By using these techniques, I am able to lower my stress that I have from homework, socializing, and the newfound responsibilities I have gained since attending college.
During this course I learned many stress management techniques. One of the first stress management techniques I learned was creating a list of things to do in order of importance. Before using this technique I left things to do all at once. This technique helped me by equaling out my work load. Another technique for stress I learned was yoga. Yoga helps me by relaxing my entire body. This technique helps me forget about the things that cause my stress. I use this technique when I have something on my mind that is
Get yourself moving. There is power in perspiration that can defeat stress. A few push-ups, curl-ups and an hour or two of jogging can make a difference in your emotional state. Meanwhile, as you perform different types of physical activities, bad elements that are causing your stress are gradually reduced. It burns away your anger, frustration, and tension, especially at work.
Life is full of troubles, demands, pressures and hassles—these are all factors related to stress. Stress is a state of mental or emotional tension resulting from adverse or difficult situations (Merriam-Webster). When you are in potential danger, your body responds with a “fight-or-flight” response to protect you from any harm. Situations like being robbed at gunpoint or studying last minute the night before the test can activate stress in your body. Although situations in life can increase stress, there are plenty of methods to diminish it. Methods like meditating, talking to family/friends, drinking tea, or even taking a quick nap--all of these methods are proven effective (The Franklin Institute). One method that is prominent to many is physical exercise. Exercise is considered to improve physical conditions and strength, but maintains mental fitness in the process. Although many assume that exercising is healthy, some may not be familiar of how it relieves stress in detail. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of exercise, the pros and cons must be considered. Some pros are: managing the levels of stress in your body, boosting your self-esteem, and improving learning and memory. The cons are: being time consuming and tedious, being costly and expensive, and risking injury while exercising. Let’s look at the pros of physical activity.

It is understandable that friends, family and a social life exists and that also needs to be taking care of. Exercise reduces stress, improves your sleep and from it allows you to gain a social aspect consider as new friends. If exercised daily or even when there is time during the week it will improve and change your life allowing you to not fall asleep or be tired all the time. It will reduce stress by being distracted on productive activities like playing tennis, going hiking, running at the park or even walking around the neighborhood. This activities when applied are best rather than thinking about work all the time, even on days off, this activities will have a positive impact on depression, anxiety and help your body use oxygen more efficiently to improve breathing. As you pick up the pace, the body, like any engine, produces heat — and needs to cool off. The blood vessels in the skin dilate, increasing blood flow to the skin. The heat then dissipates through the skin into the air.
Stress is defined as “any circumstances that threaten or are perceived to threaten one’s well-being and thereby tax one’s coping abilities” (Weiten & Lloyd, 2006, p. 72). Stress is a natural event that exists literally in all areas of one’s life. It can be embedded in the environment, culture, or perception of an event or idea. Stress is a constant burden, and can be detrimental to one’s physical and mental health. However stress can also provide beneficial effects; it can satisfy one’s need for stimulation and challenge, promote personal growth, and can provide an individual with the tools to cope with, and be less affected by tomorrow’s stress (Weiten & Lloyd, 2006, p. 93).
