It’s a worldwide event and everyone loves it, do you know what it is? Olympic wrestling is a great thing for this world. Wrestling is the best thing the Olympic has picked up. Three things to know is the origin of wrestling, the science of wrestling, and why wrestling is good for the Olympics. Let’s get started on the news you’ve been waiting for.
The origins of wrestling is where it all starts. Wrestling is one of the oldest forms of combat. Wrestling has always been popular in ancient Greece. Wrestling is as old as 15,000 to 20,000 years in age. The main facts that have been proven are, there are cave drawings in France that have drawings of men wrestling, and the caves are nearly 15,000 years old. Some of the moves sketched in

hieroglyphics are still used today. Wrestling has an important spot in the Olympics and it started in Greece in 708 B.C. A. (n.d.). On the other side of the origins are the significant dates of wrestling being brought up. In the Middle Ages, wrestling was extremely popular. In 1888 New York City, is host to the first organized wrestling tournament this is where everything starts in the U.S. another U.S. first is in 1904 Saint Louis, MO, is host to the first wrestling competition of our modern Olympic Games, very important step for the Olympics to gain this sport. For 1912 FILA is founded in Antwerp, Belgium also Ames, IA, is host to the first NCAA Wrestling Championships. Back in 1983 USA Wrestling becomes the national governing body of amateur wrestling. Most recently in 2004 the Olympic Games now includes women’s wrestling which is also one of the fastest growing sports of this day and age. Some other facts about the origin would be historic wrestling by country. These countries that made this happen are China, Egypt, Greece, France, Rome, Arabia, Scotland, and Ireland. A. (n.d.). Once wrestling had begun, people needed to learn the science of wrestling. The first thing to learn is the dermatology or the medicine dealing with the diseases of skins. The three main kinds are fungal, bacterial, and viral. One of the most common fungal infections would have to be ring worm. It starts out as a little ring space and the body and grows rapidly as it is not cured. This disease can be spread by direct contact and by indirect contact. The size can very it can cover your whole body or it can be the size of a dime. Some ways to stop this would be burning it, or freezing it, or putting a spray that stops fungal infection. Another very bad fungal disease would have to be herpes. It is spread very quickly to other people if not treated. Some treatments would be loprox or naftin. Some bacterial would be staph, eczema, and impetigo. To cure these things oral antibiotics are preferred. The biggest viral infection is MRSA it can spread very badly. It harms the skin causing it to split open. One of the worst diseases in impetigo it causes little circles and grows in to bigger rings. When these rings touch you can peel the skin off your body down to the muscles. Silverman, R. (n.d.). Furthermore following dermatology, you need to know psychology. The mental state of wrestling is very important. Wrestling is a 70% mental game and 30% work ethic. To be a good wrestler, you have to understand how to control your mind from not being tired or letting your opponent get inside your head. Some athletes have been asked what hurt them as they wrestle. They mentioned the fact that their coaches had a poor attitude so they had one also, and they also said poor practice of mental stability. Some brought up that when their coaches give them emotional support that they do better on the mat. Studies have shown that Iowa’s head coach is so successful because he works on psychology. He is very excited and enthusiastic at one point and then he is very upset and very physical at the other. This helps the wrestlers to stay relaxed when he is upset in the corner or if he is happy. He has been one coach who has had many go to try for the Olympics. They go to college boys and come out calm men and are ready for anything. Curby, D. (n.d.). The third part of the science is nutrition. Nutrition is a key part of wrestling. Hydration is a big part of nutrition. If the wrestler is not fully hydrated then his mind is slow and he could be vomiting. Vomiting is sign of being so dehydrated that you have to go to the doctors and get I-V. Doctors are very strict on being full of water and refreshed. They wrestling programs are starting to make all the participants take a hydration test. The have to test the water levels in your body. If you are to low then they will make you drink water and you will not be able to wrestle until you are back to full health. Another thing they have started to check is your body fat percentage. Back when wrestling first started you could lose as much weight as fast as possible. Now they make you test your fat so you don’t lose too much weight or lose it to fast because they give you a decent plan. The decent plan makes sure you are on weight at that time so you don’t get sick. If you lose too much weight your body will start burning muscles to help it lose the weight needed to be gone. If you are lower than five percent body fat you have to go and eat fattening foods such as and Oreo and milk diet to get your fat percentage back up. The minimal body fat percentage for women is twelve percent. If women are below that mark they cannot wrestle till they are above or till the next year. Sports teams are starting to get nutritionist to come in and help with the wrestling team to makes sure that they are not taking in too much or too little calories. The U.S. has brought in over ten nutritionists to help out the whole wrestling team. The coaches and wrestlers say they are a vital part of the team. They help everybody to be on weight and be as healthy as they can be but also not be too light to where their muscles are not able to work because they have lost too much weight. Studies have shown wrestling teams with the nutritionists have been more successful than teams that do not have them. The reasons for teams being unsuccessful that don’t have them is they lose too much weight so their muscles are being burned because they have taken the place of the fat on your body. The Olympics are starting to recommend ever team to get nutritionist so that people can stay healthy and be able to compete. The final stage is what wrestling means to the world. You may think that being a part of the Olympics is good because you get a good pay. The fact of the matter is that you don’t get paid unless you place in the competition. There has been no payments to anybody unless they are an Olympic medalist. In 2005 the Olympics made 625 million dollars just from wrestling and none of that went to any of the wrestlers. For placing first you get a quarter of a million, for second you get fifteen thousand. The payment to try out for an Olympic team is one hundred thousand. The U.S. gets paid 120 million for being a part of the Olympics. The wrestlers of the team don’t see a dime of it. The U.S. pays for their trip to the Olympics but that’s all they get for money wise from their own team. S. (2012, July 19). There has been plenty of complaints that even making it on the Olympic team they should get paid, but these payments haven’t changed for almost fifteen years. There are a lot of wrestlers that won’t see any money at all. Many of them have said that it is a good experience to have and that they wouldn’t change it for the world. The other half of how much it makes is how many people this sport brings in. The London Olympics had 23 million viewers just on TV and the next closes was the pentathlon with 12.3 million. Over one hundred eighty countries wrestle and the pentathlon only has fifty-three that are in it. Over all the wrestling brings in almost twice as much as the second competitor. There is no one even close to bringing in fans to watch the sports in the Olympics. Wrestling effects more than over half the countries. The U.S. is not only one major country Russia and china and japan are the big participants in this sport. As the Olympic committee tried to get rid of it of have the world’s population protested to never supporting the Olympics again. Irvin, J. (2013, February 15). There has been very many champions form so many countries. The top ten countries have had over 100 champions alone. The top ten are Iran, Russia, japan Ukraine, South Korea, china, Bulgaria, Armenia, Hungary, and the United States. Iran has had the most gold medal list of all time. Russia comes into a close second but are trying to work their way past Iran. The final thing wrestling does is it makes boys into men.
Today’s work force is very competitive and there is more wrestlers involved in this work force. The reasons why is because wrestling demands you to control your body with your mind. It also teaches self-control and pride. More enduringly than any other sport, wrestling teaches self-control and pride. Some have wrestled without great skill—none have wrestled without pride.” This quote is from the great man Dan gable. It has been proven that people who have been in sports get a higher level job than those who have not been involved. It has also been proven that wrestlers show higher attributes for the work force than anyone else that has been in the sports involvement. Socrates once said, “I swear it upon Zeus an outstanding runner cannot be the equal of an average wrestler. No one can be compared to a wrestler they just stand out to anyone they have that look to them. Wresters will not give up until the job is done or until they are told to quit. Wrestling is thought to demand more individual sacrifice than any other sport out there. Wrestling helps the individual to feel both defeat and success. Wrestlers have been proven to set higher goals in life than those of any others. Dan gable has also said “one you’ve wrestled, everything in life is easy.” Cooper, S. (2012, July
13). Now you’ve learned why Olympic wrestling is such a great attribute to the world. We’ve talked about the origin of wrestling, the science of wrestling, and what wrestling means to the world. Wrestling means a lot to very many people to the world. What does Olympic wrestling mean to you?
You see sports everywhere, on your TV and even your local park. The value of sports in the average American is astronomical, sports is a major priority in people’s life. Sports teaches young kids how to be successful (and not successful) at life. There is so much that goes into sports that people who never have played will never understand. With each sport there is specific skill that one must master to be good, and with that takes hours and hours of hard work. You can talk about a certain individual’s skill and capabilities that make him great, but the real value of sports lies within a person. Sports creates determination and a competiveness that can be used in other areas of life, not just sports. There are millions of kids who attempt to become professional athletes but as the level of competition increases the number of athletes decreases, very few of them ever becoming a professional athlete but they are able to take what they have learned from sports into different professions in life. When a kid spends hours in the backyard perfecting his swing it can translate to the kid spending hours of hard work in his job. Companies and business like to hire ex-athletes because they already know what kind of person they are, hardworking and
Without wrestling, there would be no fighting, no self-defense options or maneuvers, or any way for someone to be in the best shape of their life, without being in the military or special workout programs. Involved and used in everyday life, wrestling is not given the credit or respect that it deserves, for the sole fact that it is no football or basketball, and people don’t usually grow up doing it everyday in the local neighborhoods. Wrestling is a great sport to better yourself and earn a bunch of awards and titles to look back on later on in life. It 's something i will never forget and cherish always. But the memories of losing all the weight and making myself miserable for all those seasons is something i will not miss. People around me were only worried about the medals i had gotten and not about my personal being, that 's where wrestling goes wrong. That 's what needs to change in the future for not only wrestlers but the people around them as well.
The history of scholastic wrestling in the United States is closely tied to the development of college wrestling. The Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association held its first tournament in 1905, which soon sparked many more wrestling tournaments for both college students and high school students. College and high school wrestling grew especially after the standardization of the NCAA wrestling rules, which applied early on to both collegiate and scholastic wrestling (with high school modifications). More colleges, universities, and junior colleges began offering dual meets and tournaments, including championships and having organized wrestling seasons. There were breaks in wrestling seasons because of World War I and World War II, but in the high schools especially, state association wrestling championships sprung up in different regions throughout the 1930s and 1940s. As amateur wrestling grew after World War II, various collegiate athletic conferences also increased the number and quality of their wrestling competition, with more wrestlers making the progression of wrestling in high school, being recruited, and entering collegiate competition.(Wickpedia.org) Today, the various state high school associations continue to also host annual wrestling championships for individuals and for teams. There can be no middle school wrestlers wrestling with the high school. All middle school wrestlers that do this can have their wrestling career taken away, or they can earn severe punishment. you need certain equipment for wrestling. A singlet is a one-piece wrestling garment made of spandex, nylon or lycra. It should provide a tight and comfortable fit for the wrestler, and prevents an opponent from using anything on the wrestler a...
There is only one thing that is worse than wrestling practice, and that is having to sit out at wrestling practice. When I hurt my shoulder and couldn't wrestle, I wanted nothing more than to be on the mat with my teammates. No matter how hard, painful, or stressful wrestling may be, it means more to me than just being comfortable for those two hours. A sheer feeling of accomplishment surrounds a wrestler after removing completely soaked work out gear after practice. The discipline that it takes to be a member on the mat is something I will always have the utmost respect. Although I may always hate humidity because of it for the rest of my life, I will forever carry the discipline that the Hotchkiss High School wrestling room has given me.
Wrestling isn't a well known sport, but it is one of the most mentally and physically challenging sports there is. not a new sport by any means. Professional Wrestling has been around since the 1800’s
Wrestling can be traced back to cave drawings during the ancient times. According to one source,”... wrestling has been around since people started to recorded history. In France there are cave drawings of people that are wrestling that are about 15,000 years old. The Egyptian and Babylonian people had wrestling bouts that were using most of the same grappling techniques, and throws that we know today (Wrestling History). The sport of wrestling came from ancient Greece. It was used as an exercise to train Greek soldiers for battle. Ever since then, the sport has changed dramatically (Different).
Wrestling is a sport of grappling with an opponent trying to take them down with a throw or showing on them or hold them down on the ground. In the Ancient Olympics they had two types of wrestling styles called Orthia pale and Kato pale. Orthia pale is like the standing position called neutral in modern wrestling you had to throw your opponent three depart times to win the match. “OLYMPIC GAMES.” Wrestling has a lot of the grappling techniques. Wrestling has been around for a long time most of the moves from 5000 years are still being used today.
In a similar vein, the consumer culture in sport and sporting events is also greatly gendered in the past. The consumption of sport and sporting events appeared in every culture that provides a mechanism which reinforced and defined a separation between men and women. Studies throughout history (e.g. Hargreaves, 1994; Bell, 2008) noted that sports for women (e.g. golf and croquet) were more informal and recreational in nature, that women who consume sport are required to adorn beauty and indolence, instead of competiveness (Bell, 2008). Unlike women, the consumption of sports and sporting events has long been regarded as what Fischer and Gainer termed - a ‘male-only social institution’ (Fischer and Gainer, 1994: 42). It is perhaps best
The Olympic Games. The biggest international sports competition in which the worlds’ best athletes compete from all around the world to win medals for their countries. The Olympics have been a worldwide tradition since the eighth century BC, but it has hardly benefited us as a species. Every time we have the Games, our resources are abused in order to create the Olympics we desire. Huge amounts of money are used to build venues and make medals, only leading up to the countries who host the Games going into debt afterwards. There are only rare cases in which the countries earn money from hosting the Olympics, but most of the time the debt that they get themselves into take years, or even decades to pay off. You might ask yourself, why do we even host the Olympics, if it has these huge disadvantages? The answer is because we want pride for our countries, no matter how temporary it is. Knowing this, we can safely say, that the Olympic Games do not help us grow as a species.
Imagine that you’ve just started wrestling and this is your very first year. You are wrestling against the very best kid in the country and everybody you know is watching. The worst case scenario is that you get pinned in less than 10 seconds. After all though you have no hope because you have only made it to one practice in the whole season and this is your very first match. Eventually the match starts and you are just shaking and tears are falling down your cheeks and the match is only five seconds in. The opponent takes a shot and he takes you right to the mat. He has this mean devilish look in his eyes and you look like a sad puppy while you’re wrestling him. The opponent rolls you to your back and pins you in less than twenty seconds flat. All you want to do after the match is leave and never see anyone ever again. Hopefully this never happens. One way you can prevent it is by knowing the three main keys to being a good wrestler.
Violence, profanity, gratuity, and sex sells in our civilization. Professional wrestling capitalized on all those in its heyday. Those larger than life figures were characters an audience watch and wanted to be. They were told to eat there vitamins and say their prayers. They saw these professionals jump of ladders onto tables, and they tried to emulate what they had sawn. This same industry had an audience yelling “suck it.” This is the industry with so much influence. This same audience has had moments when they tried wrestling maneuvers and killed their “opponent”, most of the time the opponents were family or friends. In this study do viewers who watch pro wrestling have differen...
Sporting competitions between different countries serve purposes on the basis of title, tradition and the exchange of sporting spirit. Australia participates in over 1000 competitive and non-competitive sporting events worldwide. Australia has been both repented as a nation and as a joint force with other countries. Regardless of reason, the age-old sporting culture has been constantly improved and strengthened with every year, an example being the Olympic Games first held in Athens stretching back to 1896, more than a century ago.
