56). Despite the origin of the word cosplay, cosplay is largely thought of as directly inspired by Japanese popular culture (Okabe, 2012). Many of the conventions that these cosplayers attend, also known as ‘Cons’ for short, began popping up in many cities in the United States in the 1990s (Pollak, 2006). Currently, conventions are held in around 30 states in the United States (Leng, 2013, p.90). As popularity for these conventions grow, more and more people have started to participate in the act of cosplay (Leng, 2013, p.90). With the emergence of cosplay trends such as gender-bending, cross-playing, and mashups it is interesting to look into how traditional expressions of gender roles and identity are undermined in the cosplay community. In this paper, I plan to investigate the relationship between gender roles, gender identity and gender expression through participation in

The words Lady Gaga were glitter painted on the top and bottom, and under it I wore a Lady Gaga shirt, the rest of the outfit, glitter leggings and the boots bedazzled with rhinestones.
Throughout the year hotels, convention centers, and other high capacity venues are transformed into a social haven and meeting ground for fellow Otakus and cosplay fans or cosplayers for short. The act of cosplay, the abbreviated form of “costume play”, is defined by Oxford Dictionary as “the practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga and anime”. However, there is much more to a cosplayer than this simple definition leads one to believe. To its most dedicated patrons, cosplay is an art form incorporating unlimited mediums, such as textile fabrication, woodworking, clay sculpting, resin casting, and even theatrical makeup. Some enthusiasts take cosplay far more seriously than a weekend social hobby. While some would be content with purchasing a commissioned piece or mass produced costume for their convention adventures others are not satisfied until they have handcrafted a masterpiece with 100% accuracy. These cosplayers will spend week or months and hundreds of dollars insure their costume is a perfect adaption of their selected character. Yet for some that is still not enough. There are those who will not be content until they have become the living embodiment of their chosen character. They become the method actors of cosplay, memorizing the characters personality, walk, quirks, and vocalics. Going even deeper into the realm of cosplay, there are still those who are so obsessed with becoming a character they will paint their skin, whether it be pink, grey, green, or any color in between. This is where a sensitive debate explodes. Coloring yourself grey or pink for your Marceline or Princess Bubblegum adventure time cosplays will ...

Ceremonial Clothing is worn for indigenous dances, cultural festivals, and other special occasions, like the China Poblana, which means Chinese Pueblan in English. This outfit is known for its white shirt, shawl and wide, colorful dress. The origin of this costume goes back to the 19th century in a town in Mexico. The town is called Puebla and it is known to the world as the city where Mexico defeated the French on May 5, 1862 to eventually win its second independence and an Asian slave named Mirra (Lacy, “Traditions of Mexico” Par.1). It is believed she was living in India but pirates captured her when she was nine and sold her to a Pueblan merchant. Miguel de Sosa, who was a merchant, baptized Mirra the “Chinese girl” and gave her the Christian name Catarina de San Juan. After Sosa and his wife died, Catarina later attained her freedom and spent the remainder of her life in a convent passing away at the age of 82 in 1688. People can visit her tomb in the Templo de la Compañía in Puebla (donquijote, “Traditional Mexican clothing-Mexican clothes”). Unwilling to give up her traditional clothing, she continued to wear a sari, which inspired the China Poblana dress that is known today. It has evolved throughout time adding national symbols of Mexico, like the eagle clutching a snake, and a prickly pair of cacti. Woman who wear this dress tend to braid their hair on two sides, tied with red, white, and green ribbons.

People’s opinions differ greatly on what vintage fashion is. Rhodes (2008, pg. 6-8) suggests that “vintage fashion is a magical harvest of wearable art. It’s a wine from past seasons that must be dipped into, sampled and tasted.” Taylor (2013, p. 8) also suggests that vintage is a “garment that possesses age, beauty and great design.” I agree with these statements and believe that there is a story behind every vintage garment. Some say that vintage is another word for old fashioned, Rhodes suggests that vintage clothes have had an adventure and have survived the toil of time (2013).
During this experience, I have had the honor of further deepening my interest in costume and design. In this paper, I show my research and what I got out of this opportunity. I learned how to effectively choose my costumes in order to create a sense of feeling in my films, and I also had the opportunity of seeing how professionals choose certain looks and clothes to show emotion in their films.
Attire & more: Weddings in winters means that the bride and the groom and the people attending the wedding have a lot more to showcase in terms of style. This is, given the fact that the chill will give way to a lot of lace and fur and accessorization which otherwise would be a closed chapter given the heat of the summers. While the bride need not worry about carrying that awfully heavy wedding dress full with additions and accessories which they would really dread in the summer season, options of doing their dresses with various heavy fabrics like satin, lace and fur gives a lot of space to experiment too! The other very famous fashion accessorize that are doing the rounds this winter are nothing but the fur muffs and the ear muffs which the bride along with her bride maids can sport in this season. While if you buy a hand muff made of fur, it would not only keep your hands warm and stylish all the occasion through, the guests will thank you for giving them an opportunity to sport the so-in-fashion look too! Thus do not be wary to experiment and buy fur muffs if you can and set the code so that all the guests wear one and come. Fashion trends in place and
Although there weren’t always terms for the acts, cross-dressing and homosexuality have existed since man has. Although they have both taken place for thousands of years, there is very rare documentation of the participants—particularly after the rise of Christianity and the condemnation of any of these marginalized groups of people. The American western frontier was no different—men and women continued to participate in cross-dressing and had relations with those of the same sex. However what is particularly interesting about this time and place is how men and women utilized their resources to deceive their communities and benefit from these largely taboo—particularly at the time—performances. The environment in the west was vastly diverse in the late 1800’s/early 1900’s and to the few documented cases that exist today better depict the reactions of different mining towns, reservations or frontiers.
What is sexier than the colour red? Well, nothing. The best part about red is that it's a theme you can extend to your accessories and there's nothing better than the winning combination of black
