A snow day acts as a dream for me personally, especially during the winter months of school. For me, a snow day is a blessing, principally when my schedule is chaotic and I have no time for myself. Snow days are caused by my uttermost beloved season, winter. I did some research about my most beloved season and this is what it said, “the June 6-8 Gallup Poll finds 36% of Americans naming spring as their favorite season of the year, while 27% prefer fall, 25% summer, and just 11% winter” (“Most Popular Season…”). My understanding was that people had a tremendous fondness of the cold, well I guess not, but, at least I contribute to the eleven percent that appreciates what Jack Frost delivers. Winter, being my most popular period of the year will …show more content…
This sound gives me a tickle in my stomach because I know that it's going to be a snow day. I unplug my Chromebook and look up WMUR News 9 and look at the school cancelations. Most of the schools are canceled here in New Hampshire, so when I click the letter I for Inter-Lakes it was almost a guaranteed that school was cancelled for a snow day. With the thought of a day to wind down in my mind, I decided to go back to sleep for a couple more hours. Shortly after I wake up the second time I mozy upstairs and start cooking some chocolate chip and blueberry muffins that are terrific. While the muffins are cooking I stay in my pajamas, which will stay on me for the rest of the day. As a result of wearing the pajamas all day, I will feel comfy and relaxed. When the muffins were done I grabbed a couple, sat down at the table, watch a couple shows, and planned the rest of the perfect …show more content…
I will head out on the trails with my sister and two cousins, who live next door, and end up at the best sledding hill. The hill is very steep and long which is fun to go down, but a horrible experience walking back up. My eight year-old-cousin and I love to head down the decline holding hands so we end and walk back up together. It's a blast hanging with them and sledding, but as usually we acquire bordism and head back for some water on the farmers porch of my house. When we were all hydrated up we headed back to the surplus of snow to make the famous Durand snowman. The Durand snowman is just a humongous snowman, which we make every year. A ladder is needed to put the head on because it is so tall. Once we all are soaked and freezing from the beautiful snow we head back in for more adventures to
“Winter Evening” by Archibald Lampman, and “Stories of Snow” by P.K Page are two poems describing the human experience of winter. Winter is seen, by some, to be blissful, magical and serene. Winter could also be described as pure and heavenly, with the white snow resembling clouds. However, others have a contrasting viewpoint; they paint winter in harsher light, giving the impression that winter is bitter and ruthless. Others still, have a mixed viewpoint and may recognize both the positives and negatives to the season.
Early this February the states surrounding the great lakes in the northeast were pounded by lake-effect snow storms. Some areas saw more than four feet of snow. These states are accustomed to lake-effect snow storms, but it has been some time since they last saw one of this magnitude. Some areas saw up to 140 inches in less than twelve days. The storm was accountable for 35 deaths. (msn.com 2007)
INTRODUCTION The winter season can be a major hassle for some people while others just have to deal with a slight cool down in temperatures. Over the northern portions of the country, people are faced to deal with the harsh conditions that Mother Nature has in store. Some winter seasons are less brutal than others. Besides the typical storm systems that come through the area and drop different types of precipitation whether it is snow, sleet, or freezing rain, there’s another weather event that affects not everyone in the country, but primarily around the Great Lakes.
“I think I see a sunny spot Dani, let’s go warm up.” I say. The day was warming in the parking lot. Small piles of snow melting next to the concrete. Under the trees circling Bear Lake it is damn cold. Memorial Day Weekend at Rocky Mountain National Park and one side of the Lake still has three feet of snow covering the path.
First, Collins uses hyperbole by repeating the word “snow” five times in one sentence: “Chicago’s snowfall was so huge that the news media ran out of things to attach to “snow” - thundersnow! snowpocalypse! snowmageddon!” (Collins). She consecutively uses three portmanteaus of the word "snow" with increasing stress level to create strong feelings. She wants to emphasize that Chicago is experiencing the most massive snowstorm in the United States, one of the consequences of global warming. This is a circumstance that causes people panic. She then reminds the readers about the blizzard of 1979 which made Mayor Michael Bilandic get “kicked out of office six weeks later in the Democratic primary.” It seems that she wants to make a connection between the congressman and a snow job.
I have been to a place that has lots of interesting snow and others. It is Lake Tahoe. It is a place that I will never get bored of that it has a lot of snow! Mostly you could do anything with snow. But most of all, beating your older brother up in a snowball fight. I really loved when each time I went down the big mountain. It was really amazing. I was also really happy of building snowmen and building snow forts that I never even knew I can build. It was amazing for all of what could be crafted with snow. The fantastic trip has come to the start!
9 .The Snowager: The Snowager is responsible for setting a windy gust of snow throughout Neopia during the month of Giving. Without him, there wouldn’t be any snow to play in or marvel at. He provides us with the miracle and beauty that is snow.
Snow is a concept that only a few people really know about. It seems like most people hate snow with a burning passion. However, the true northerners praise every day that it snows; mostly because it does not happen a lot. At one point everyone that participates in a snow sport has to hope that it will snow every winter. Unfortunately, our hopes and dreams do not always come true. That was why snowmaking was developed in the 1980s and has been upgraded every year so maximum snow production is possible. The first reason was to fill in the gaps that Mother Nature left out. However, now the amount of snow we receive is drastically less than what it used to be. Instead of making snow to fill in the gaps, we have to make most of the snow we ski
In Chicago winter is usually the most dreaded time of the year. It rains, snows, and is just freezing. In january 1985 it was -27℉. In order to go outside in the months of December, January, and February you have to wear a hat, gloves,a scarf and multiple layers of clothes in order to stay warm. Almost every morning you would have to wipe off the snow, frost, and ice off your car. The are also lots of danger because like black ice. Ice is not visible on most roads, this can cause cars to slip. In the winter it get a lot darker a lot earlier. At 4:30 it's close to complete darkness. return to their old life and the humiliation and confusion from the sanctioned racism that follow the author into adulthood.
The earth functions as more than a mat for humanity to walk on. It gives life, takes away life, invokes emotions and swallows them as well. Snow Falling on Cedars follows the murder trial of Kabuo Miyamoto, a fisherman, on the death of Carl Heine, another fisherman. Although complicated with the love triangle of Kabuo, his wife, Hatsue, and her former lover, Ishmael Chambers, and racial prejudices between the Japanese and white residents of the island, the earth or setting plays the important role of devouring the characters. David Guterson combines his research for the novel and his techniques employed while writing it with the prejudices established in the work and the development of the main characters in order to convey the cycle of decay
There are four different types of seasons. They are Summer, Spring, Fall, and Winter. They each hold its own period in which they occur. Some days are long and some days are short depending on the season. Different weather, daylight hours, holidays, and different events are all events in which occur throughout the season. The events that can occur also depends on what’s the season. In each season, there are different activities that can be accomplished. For example, some seasons contain certain holidays that occur in them like Christmas, which only happens in the winter. There are a numerous amount of great activities to do during each season, but one specific season tops all of them. Out of all of the seasons, winter is the best season.
The neighborhood soon filled with children excited over the freshly fallen snow. Since all of the schools were closed, the children were assured of enjoyment for several days. The sounds of the winter snowstorm were echoing throughout the town, from the snowplows in the distance, to the scraping of snow shovels that sounded like fingernails scratching a chalkboard. Neighbors were shoveling snow that had accumulated on their sidewalks and driveways. The snow that was predicted to be several inches by the end of the weekend quickly piled up to around eight inches by that evening.
