There are positions outfield, infield, and catcher and pitcher. There are three positions outfield and four positions infield. Outfield the positions are left, center, and right. Infield positions are first, second, shortstop, and third, but there’s also pitcher and catcher where they aren’t at bases. Although softball seems like an easy sport that doesn’t take much knowledge, positions in softball each have their own rules and plays.
One position outfield is center and that is a more complex position for several reasons. You have to back up second or shortstop when trying to get the runner out when they are running to second. You also have to ready for popflies, balls that go high up in the air then come back straight down, so you have to be alert and have a good eye. Finally you have to be paying attention otherwise and ball can fall right in front of you and your not ready to catch it or a grounder, a ball that rolls on the ground, may go past you.

If the ball go outfield left of you then they will throw it to you and you will throw it to shortstop who is at second. If the ball go right of you then you go to second where shortstop will throw it to you and you have to tag them or you can tag the base if they they were standing on first before. Then when the catcher is throwing you a ball then you will stand on the base and shortstop will stand behind you back you up or it will be the
So now that we have learned about what we actually need to play softball let's start with the positions in softball. First there is the Pitcher that is in the middle of the field in a circle called the pitcher's mound. Second there is a Catcher behind home plate. The Catcher catches passed balls and strikes. Then there's the First Baseman, the Second Baseman, and the Third Baseman. There is a Shortstop between 2nd and 3rd and a Left Fielder in the outfield between second and third. A Center Fielder which is in the outfield behind second, the Right Fielder which is in the outfield between first and second
Baseball is a unique game in which, though it is a team sport; it consists fundamentally on individuals and confrontations between those individuals. From the moment the pitcher gets his sign from the catcher, comes set, and delivers the pitch, it's all between the pitcher and hitter. Present are many fielders in set and ready position on the field, base runners creeping off their bases, and players and coaches watching from the dugout, but during those few seconds, baseball evolves into a two player game. Likewise, on nearly any play - a fly ball, a ground ball, a popup, etc. - all the attention is focused only on the fielder and perhaps the base runner that he will attempt to throw out. Every play that is, except for the squeeze.
A person that would like to play professional ball will choose baseball because there is a professional big league, such as the St. Louis Cardinals, but in softball that opportunity is not available. Baseball is played on more levels than softball. It is played on the professional, international, Olympic, college, high school, and little league levels. If a player is fortunate enough to make it to the professional level, he can make millions of dollars.
Baseball is not a difficult game to comprehend, but it can a very long time to achieve a high level of performance. Usually one starts playing this game at a very young age and the first thing they start out with is throwing. Throwing a baseball involves exploiting all major muscle groups in the body to generate a large torque on the arm that will in turn create a high potential for speed when it is released.
The first reason is, softball players have less time to react to the ball while batting and fielding. Softball fields are closer and smaller than baseball fields. Baseball infields are 16,700 feet and softball infields are only 7,200 feet. This leaves softball players in the infield, outfield and the batters with less time to react to a pitch or a hit. The distance from home plate to the pitcher's mound in softball is 43 feet while in baseball it is 60 feet. Sarah Trifoso plays for the Niagra Purple Eagles
Baseball is a unique sport in many different ways. It is the only major competitive sport that has no time limit. The success of a player is determined on how well he can play as an individual and how well the team plays along with him. There are many rules that determine the success of a player’s performance. A baseball game is played with two teams and each team is permitted 25 players per team; however this is only true for professional teams. There are three parts to baseball: offense, pitching, and defense.
The batter, catcher, and home-plate umpire wear special protective gear. Teams alternate turns in the field and at bat, the home team batting last. One turn at bat for each team constitutes an inning, and nine innings constitute a game. In the field there are a pitcher, a catcher, four infielders, and three outfielders. The pitcher throws overhand, employing a variety of deliveries, from the raised pitchers mounds to home plate, a distance of 60.5 ft. An opposing batter attempts to hit the pitches and safely reach base, while the fielders attempt to put the batter out through various plays. A batter who misses three pitches, or fails to swing at three pitches is out. But if the pitcher pitches four balls the batter can walk to first base. A run is scored every time a player crosses home
The Inupiat people inhabit the Northern Slope Borough. This is the Northwestern most part of Alaska. It contains the Northern most American city Barrow, known as Utqiaġvik in Inupiaq, the Inupiat’s native language. There are four main types of Inupiat, the Bering Strait Inupiat, the Kotzebue Sound Inupiat, the Northern Alaska Coast Inupiat also known as Tareumiat and the Interior North Inupiat also known as Nunamiut however each clan has its own traditions and customs and within each town there can be 1 or more clans. (cite) There are roughly 13,500 Inupiat in Alaska. The Inupiat are a part of a group called Inuit which includes tribes in Greenland and Canada. They prefer the term Inuit or Inupiat to Eskimo so for the sake of this paper the term Inuit will be used when discussing the people as a whole. All Inuit speak a form of the language
Also in baseball, the runner is allowed to lead off at any time. While in softball the runner must wait for the pitcher to release the ball before she leaves the base, or it is an automatic
Certain hitters hit the baseball to a certain area of the field based on their stance, their swing, and weather they are left or right handed. So for a easier chance of getting the batter out and not letting him reach base, the manager moves the players to that spot on the field to be able to field or catch the ball so there is a better
Pitching, hitting, and fielding are key parts in baseball magic. It’s mostly a game of chance with pitching and hitting. A pitcher may have it in the ball pen, but when out in the field; he may lose his concentration and not throw well. Hitting the baseball takes great skill and sometimes luck. One can hit the ball for a home run or an opposing glove. Fielding is all about the fellow teammates on how well they play in the outfield,
Good reflexes are required so when you are fielding the ball you can be quick on your feet to go towards whichever direction the ball goes. Postural control is needed for when you are running the bases so you can keep in an upright position and not fall over. The psycho social skills that are required are: interest, social conduct, self control, and interpersonal skills. You need interest since it is a leisure and needs to be something that you enjoy and brings you pleasure doing. Social conduct skills so you can communicate with your team mates in a socially accepted manner. Self control so that if you loose a game you can control your emotions. Interpersonal skills so that can communicate non-verbally with the coaches on different plays throughout the game. The mental skills required are attention span and sequencing. You need to have attention span skills so that you can focus on the game in front of you and which plays are being played. Sequencing is important in softball so that you know which play to do first, which base to run, as well as the order in which to do hitting and
In baseball, pitchers throw overhand. Throwing overhand leads to many arm injuries. Problems with the labrum, rotator cuff, and elbow are common. Many baseball pitchers get “Tommy John” surgery. Also, pitchers stand on an elevated mound, 90 feet away from the batter. In contrast, softball pitchers throw underhand, which is a natural movement of the arm. Therefore, softball pitchers are less likely to be injured from pitching. Softball pitchers don’t pitch on an elevated mound. Pitchers throw on a mound level with the rest of the playing field. Lastly, softball pitchers throw from a mound 43 feet away from the batter. Being that close to the batter, pitches are a lot faster. A 65 mph fastball in softball, is equivalent to a 90 mph fastball in
What I like the most about the sport of baseball is getting to field the ball. I like this the most, because it makes you anxious, or scared to get the ball hit to you. Now I will practically play any position, as long as it’s in the infield. The reason I would rather play in the infield than the outfield is because when you’re playing the outfield you have to cover a lot of space. Also, throughout my years of playing baseball I have been moved around the field a lot. Now I know that this can be very frustrating, but just accept it because you may like the other position after you get used to it.
Being a catcher is the most important position out on the field besides the pitcher, because the catcher has to be able of control every aspect of the game and know what to do when certain situation arises. As Feynman says “You can know the name of the bird in every language and still not know anything about the bird” (pg. 54). Just how you can know exactly what pitch is coming and what play will happen, but if you do not know how to react or what to do in that situation what difference does it make? To teach this would require a more rigorous form of teaching and using some more methods that will instill the importance of how important it is to be the leader out there on the field for your team. Being a catcher is no joke and that is what should be instilled into young ball player’s minds from a young age.
