Eco Morales, politician and Cocalero activist, once said, ¨We can not have equilibrium in this world with the current inequality and destruction of Mother Earth. Capitalism is what is causing this problem and it needs to end.¨ In John Steinbeck's novel, ¨The Grapes of Wrath,¨ written in 1939, he discusses an event after the Dust Bowl in Oklahoma, where the Joad family and many other families are forced to leave their farms and homes behind to go to California to look for jobs, land, and a brighter future for their families. The Great Depression was during this time and too many families were looking for jobs, making it difficult for the Joad family to find a job of their own. Before arriving to California, the Joads though of California as a hopeful place where they would find food and refuge. Once they arrived, they met reality. Everyone hated them. No one wanted to give them work because they were Okies. The greed of the upper class caused the hopes and aspirations of the Joads to vanish. This also caused for many families to suffer from poverty. In the video. ¨Wealth Inequalities in America,¨ they give statistics of the rise of homelessness depending on education level. For example, in the college education level, homelessness have raised from a 3% to a 6% of homelessness. As of for the highschool level of education, it has risen from 8% to a 20% of homelessness. These statistics show how even today, the lower class are still having fewer opportunities out in the world. Even the middle class seems to be suffering as well.
