I like how Isnard was punishing in the end; the worker won’t go back to work and demand Isnard has to leave the town. Isnard characterized as a devious person that will do anything to fulfill his needs. Isnard tries to pay off Doudou so he can help the strikers to go back to work. Doudou did not agree, and Isnard feels the hatred in his heart, which I think this is the reason that he decided to kill two people, little Ka, and Sene, and Gorgui was wounded. This violent act also shows the cruel oppression as inequality in which that is something people are fighting against. Eventually, Isnard was shot to death, and to me, her death shows the justice and freedom will stand out in the end. Moreover, there is no room for racism, it is despicable
This novel really stirred my emotions, especially in the beginning. For example, Candelario works at a restaurant owned by a man named Don Gustavo. Candelario is the salad maker and what taught, by Don Gustavo himself, how to make a perfect Caesar salad for his customers. The doctor and his wife came in and both ordered salads and Candelario made the salads exactly to Don's instructions, but the customers were not pleased. Since they were not pleased Don fired Gustavo on the spot that night. This made me very angered with Don and people like Don. It sucks when you do something right but then someone is displeased so all of a sudden it was the wro...
In conclusion the ironic result achieved by Lou is that through his selfish views, and little consideration to The Little Seamstress, he lost her by opening her eyes to the world of individualism painted in her mind by the words of Balzac. Lou had achieved exactly what Chairman Mao feared in the first place (an uprising of individuals) and that was why books were banned. Through out this novel it shows that the human imagination cannot be confined in the small box known as communism, and that is why it doesn't work. People are always going to find a way out, change the rules, to escape, and live as individuals.
The documentary strived to show us how factories were corrupt that they couldn’t provide good working conditions for the workers until we lost people. This documentary is about the tragic fire that took place on March 25, 1911 in the Triangle factory. We can clearly see through this documentary that these people didn’t matter to the factory owners because their needs were not met. The documentary shows that the year before the fire took place the workers led a strike asking for better working conditions, but obviously their voices were not heard. After the fire took place this is when factories started improving working conditions. It is sad to learn that it took 146 lives of innocent people in order for factory owners to be convinced that they need to improve the poor working
...o one in its industry wants to speak up about. Schlosser wanted to inform the audience and make sure that those conditions that low wage workers are oppressed by are revealed to the rest of the society and taken into consideration. He was extremely successful in displaying this throughout his novel because all the details he includes to pull on the heart strings of the reader. Overall, he demonstrated wide writing skills that are unique to only Schlosser himself.
...le contradicts the pleasant ambience of the town. When the foreshadowing job reaches its goal, it leads to the climatic point of the story. Through this climax, the reader sees the cruelty of the residents and how they undervalue life for this particular ritual.
Why did so many people, young, old, sick, wealthy and even convicted felonies had to experience firsthand of the worst evil man could ever pursue to one another. What was the point? Surely there have been many explanations, but those did not answer mine. I understood why the prisoners questioned their faith in God, I probably would have to. On the contrary, not even prayers to God could stop such evil. It criticizes the acceptance of human rights. This story puts a strain on trusting others. The individuals in this novel had a redundant encounter. It maddens me to the core. The hardships of what they had to go through, just for survival gives me grief. The story overall makes me feel distressed from every angle of the
There has always been inequality in society. Whether it is between genders or races it has always been a major problem and played important roles in everyday lives. As time has gone on, groups have been created in hope of ending these inequalities and creating a more peaceful society. In some ways feminism has done amazing things in creating more equal rights for women. Though there are still major problems that need to be worked on and feminism seems to not be working as well anymore. Due to the extreme gender inequality that exists we must create a feminist mindset where in society ignores labels, embrace more than just the “essential feminist”, and relieves people of societal pressures.
shows the effect of the society on them, the loss of hope they had in
I thought that It showed a lot of courage when charlie's dad went over to help defend the Lu family from the drunk townsmen who were beating jefferies farther. This was mainly because it would of been an uncomfortable position for charlie's father because he is defending the vietnamese which for everyone else in the town is wrong because of the war going on in vietnam and since lots of husbands, sons and men have gone to war against them even though the Lu family hadn't done anything wrong it's just because of their race. This has showed me how important it is to stick up for others no matter what everyone else is saying or their race or anything because a lot of the time like in this situation Mr Lu was getting beaten and his wife get hit and his son was getting bullied just because of their race even though they were perfectly nice and friendly people. Another thing this novel taught me was that if you work hard and don't give up even when someone tells you too, don't because in the end if you work the hardest it will always pay off. This was demonstrated when Jefferies played cricket and would practice so much and when he finally made the team it turned out he was actually the best player on the team and got them a lot of runs and
...ering the thoughts and opinions of their employee. On the other side, despite the hash and dangerous working environment, the workers could not quit. The jobs at the factories were their main source of income and without it they would suffer form hunger and poverty. Hence, the workers at that time were tangled in the system that only supports a small proportion of the population, the upper class.
This book was fantastic. This book had many things to learn and think about. There were many things but they were only two who made me think what they meant and why were they important. First thing, was that about three thousand boys and young men from the refugee camps would be chosen to go live in America. Second thing, how Salva will use his uncle’s advice to keep going onto his future.
It emphasizes the importance of truth and that the truth with eventually come out. Throughout the film Martin’s imposter, Arnaud lied about who he was and for awhile was able to trick an entire village. At the end the truth came out, and Arnaud was executed for his dishonesty, emphasizing that honesty is and was a very important part of a person and a society. Another theme is the importance of family and loyalty to family. Even after Martin had disappeared and abandoned the family for nearly ten years, they still were excited about his arrival and welcomed him with open arms. While some of his family was hesitant and upset about his disappearance, they were still loyal to him. His wife, Betrande had also been loyal to him while he was missing, although he had left her to raise her son without a father. Another theme that was emphasized was about greed, and how being greedy would eventually get you nowhere in life. Arnaud wanted a wife, and a family, and land of his own. Arnaud of course did not want to do this the right way and instead let his greed get the best of him, leading him to do things that were unconstitutional and morally wrong. In the end his greediness got him nowhere and he was executed, losing the family and life that he had stolen from someone
...ve-it” basis. Many of the workers were injured or killed in industrial accidents each year because of the unsafe conditions they worked in. men and women weren’t the only ones to work in the harsh conditions there was child labor they were used to move, clean, or fix large machines since they were so small and fit between the parts. The kids that worked were all under the age of fifteen, they missed air, sunshine, fresh air, play, and the chance to attend school and get an education.
I really did like this book. I had no clue that the history of the city I live in was anything like this. There was Action, Suspense, Drama, Romance, Excitement, this book had it all. My favorite Character is probably Sodapop, because he looks out for his brothers and is very caring. Everybody likes Sodapop and he is responsible, and has fun while at the same time. My least favorite player is probably Johnny. He is kind of quiet and insecure. I used to be very quiet and I hated it. I know I can’t really blame him, because of his dark past, but during the story, he was hard to fall in love with as a character.
When the chapters set in France are read, they make me feel as though I am with the characters, in the midst of the revolution, thinking their thoughts, walking through the streets of Paris with them. I see the same people, who scare you with their dancing and howls. One such example is The Carmagnole, the Revolutionaries who dance through the streets wailing and screaming, thirsty for the blood of the aristocrats.
