Do you know what the Industrial Revolution is? The Industrial Revolution is the introduction of new and improved technology during the 1700s and 1800s. The Industrial Revolution first began in Britain before it spread around the world. After Britain, it spread to other European countries, then to North America. The revolution created change. People no longer worked on farms in rural areas. They now worked in factories in urban areas. With different countries going through the industrial revolution, some countries that were more industrialized than others. Britain was the most industrialized country during the Industrial Revolution during the 1700s and 1800s because it had a large population, natural resources, and a stable economy. …show more content…
Britain had a tremendous source of coal and iron. This benefited them because “Coal provided the power to drive the steam engines and was needed to make iron. Iron was used to improve machines and tools and to build bridges and ships.” Since they had a large supply of these resources, they could build more technologies than other countries. Without coal and iron, the industrial revolution may not have happened. Not only was coal and iron used to build things in Britain, but they also sold it. “Seventy-five cents’ worth of common iron ore has been developed into $5 worth of bar-iron, or into $10 worth of horse-shoes, or into $180 worth of table knives, or into $6,800 worth of fine needles, or into $29,480 worth of shirt buttons, or $200,000 worth of watch-springs, or $400,000 worth of hair-springs, and the same quantity of common iron ore can be made into $2,500,000 worth of pallet arbors.” Britain bought coal and iron for a low price but sold it for a higher price. So not only are they keeping a great amount of coal and iron for themselves, they are selling some to help improve their countries wealth. Coal was probably the most important resource during this time. “The last deep coal mine closed in December 2015, though open cast mining has continued.” This shows that coal not only benefited Britain during the 1700s and 1800s but has lasted for years. Coal and Iron were significant contributions to Britain being the most industrialized
The period during which there was an increased output of machine-made goods, also known as the Industrial Revolution, played a critical role in reshaping Britain’s economy. The Industrial Revolution, stimulated by advancements that were made during the Agricultural Revolution, began in Great Britain for many reasons. In addition to Britain’s broad availability of natural resources, the count...
The Industrial Revolution in North America The industrial revolution started around 1750. It began in Britain and spread throughout the world. England was known as “the world’s workshop” because at that point in time, England was the major manufacturing center of the world. Bailey:
The Industrial Revolution was the major advancement of technology in the late 18th and early 19th century that began in Britain and spread to America. The national and federal government helped the United States grow into a self reliant nation with improvements in transportation, technology, manufacturing and the growth of the population.
The Industrial Revolution began over two centuries ago and has had a major impact on every current world power. It began in a group of islands off the North West coast of Europe and has been imitated or tried by every nation looking to increase its wealth and power throughout the world. Industrialization came out of the basic ideas of capitalism because it fostered individuals who were willing to take high risks in hopes of high returns on their investments. These investments included factories and machines that would be put to use by people to better their standard of living. These entrepreneurs would return their profits back to the expansion and improvement of their factories and machines.
A growing population resulted in a greater demand for Great Britain. They were the first to start the Industrial revolution. With their invention of the steam engine transportation of goods and people boomed, railroad, canals, etc. which resulted in a new class system. Before people lived in small communities and their lives revolved around farming, but with the start of the revolution more people and laborers moved to the city which had become urban and industrialized. New banking techniques such as corporations, partnerships, credit, and stocks were invented. Everything used to be made in people’s homes using handmade tools, yet now everything is done in factories using mass production. The three major materials cotton, coal, and iron were the up and coming new products used during the industrial revolution. Cotton was used for the textile industry, coal for steam power, and iron for the new types of transportation. There was also an improvement in living standards for some, but the poor and working people had to deal with bad employment and living conditions. When the laborers moved to the cities clocks and
Resources were the main driving force for giving societies the chance to move from a society that was under the limitations of a old biological regime; into a more modern industrialized country. Specifically coal was the resource that was special in this transitional period. Robert Mark who is a history and environmental professor at Whittier college in Southern California states. "The use of coal was a major breakthrough, launching human society out of the biological old regime and into a new one no longer limited by annual solar energy flows"11 Countries that were using wood too burn and heat things were at a major disadvantage to those who had major access to coal. Coal was special because it burnt hotter and longer than wood was able too. Coal would also become the major resource in fueling the industrial revolution. "The replacement-with steam generated by burning coal- of wind, water, and animals for powering industrial machines constitutes the beginning of Industrial Revolution"2 When comparing both China and England during this transition they are going though the same problems.
The time that is known as Industrial Revolution started about in 1760 to sometime between 1820 and 1840. This era was a period that some fundamental changes affect the textile manufacture, metallurgy, agriculture and transportation. Industrial Revolution means the devolution from hand production methods to machines, new chemical manufacturing and iron process. The Revolution started in England and within a little time spread in some countries of Europe and United States.
The Industrial Revolution refers to the greatly increased output of machine-made goods that began in England in the mid 1700s. Before the Industrial Revolution, people made items by hand. Soon machines did the jobs that people didn’t want to do. This is a more efficient way of making goods. During the industrial revolution, political, economic, and social forces led to a period of upheaval for the French during the eighteenth century.
The industrial revolution of 17th and 18th centuries saw the transformation of Britain from a Neolithic nation into an industrious nation. However, this spread quickly throughout the world, introducing the modernisation of agriculture, revolution in power and manufacturing of textile.
There is much discussion about how, or why, the Industrial Revolution started in Britain. I contribute this to three main attributes of Britain: the scientific and agricultural revolution, the cheap energy economy, and their social structure. One of the main reasons the industrial revolution worked out as well as it did was the scientific and agricultural revolutions that happened beforehand. Everything is the same, everything is standardized.
One of the darker causes for the Industrial Revolution was the slave trade with overseas colonies at the time. For many merchants who saw the easy money to be made from the voyages, the merchants became extremely rich – and as it is in human nature – these rich merchants wanted to become even more rich, the seemingly best way to do this was to invest profits from the slave trade into the new factories that were arising, this is called “Commercial Revolution”. Britain was one of the few countries that was able to bring in profits from other countries and keep profits in their country, aiding them into being the first country to Revolutionise Industrially.
Great Britain’s natural resources were a major factor in its early industrialization. One of the main resources was the abundance of both coal and iron. These two elements could be easily used in many different aspects of industrialization, and the amount of each led innovators to use them in all aspects of manufacturing in order to lower costs. Due
First, Britain had some tremendous natural attributes. It was naturally endowed with many deposits of coal and iron ore, which were used heavily in the early stages of factory production. In addition, Britain was situated at a critical point for international trade. Its position between the United States and the rest of Europe allowed them to have a serious impact in all matters of trade. Likewise, a multitude of navigable waterways, easy access to the sea, and a mild climate all contributed to the onset of industrialism. Britain's topography was conducive to industrialism because its diversity allowed for the production of many agricultural products, preventing any sort of shortage or famine. Evans remarks, “Each single such advantage could be replicated in other European countries and some could be accentuated, but no other nation enjoyed such a rich combination of natural bounties” (111). Furthermore, the nation was free of many trade tariffs that hampered industry in other European nations while featuring a real opportunity for upward movement in society which provided a great incentive for acquiring wealth. Britain also experienced tremendous population growth which provided a potential workforce as well as an increase in the demand for goods.
Britain, specifically England, was a politically stable society at the time and became the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution for a number of other reasons. They had merchants who already had the capital for investing in the means of production and producing factories, they held more colonies than any other nation (some already rich in their own textile industries), they had the key raw materials needed for production, and there was a large number of readily available workers (Zmolek
...uch of the hard labor that was required in the fields. Farmers also discovered that they could cultivate turnips and legumes to help preserve the soil for future growing seasons. The development of the railroads and steamships allowed for great amount of crops to be shipped throughout the nation and overseas. These developments helped increase profits and turn England’s economy into one that was capitalistic in nature.
