An Interpretation of “In the Orchard” For any educator that is searching for a poem to arouse the interest of students enlisted in upper level literature classes, the poem “In the Orchard” by Muriel Stuart, written in the early twentieth century, conveys the ageless theme of unrequited love. The poem has all the elements of making students understand how far back the feeling of unrequited love has been around. We can understand these elements better through the rhetorical strategies. A rhetorical strategy that this poem has is dialogue. The whole poem contains dialogue between the boy and girl who plan to meet each other in the orchard to be alone. “But I gave you everything.” “Well, you shouldn’t have done it. You know what a fellow thinks when a girl does that.” “Yes, he talks of her over his drinks And calls her a ______.” The issue that the boy and girl are discussing is still very much a part of today’s society, unreturned love. This dialogue, or conversation, could be happening right now at the end of the twentieth century. Another rhetorical strategy incorporated in the poem is imagery. There are many types of images that are in this poem. For example, the story that the young girl shares with the boy about drowning the cat is full of images for the reader to see: I’ve seen boys stone a blackbird, and watched them drown A kitten…it clawed at the reeds, and they pushed it down Into the pool while it screamed. Is that fun, too? The image of the cat clawing at the reeds stands out the most. A person reading this poem can envision the cat clawing the reeds and screaming as the young boys hold it under the water bringing the cat closer and closer to death with each passing moment. When the young man tells her this she is devastated. She does not understand how the boy could have sex with her and not love her. People who have sex with each other are supposed to love each other. She just does not understand how the boy could do this to her. Then when the boy tells her that all males are this way, the girl looks like she is going to cry. This discovery seems really hard on the girl. “In the Orchard” by Muriel Stuart is a good poem in which to convey the ageless theme of unrequited love to students who need to be aroused to the poetry portion of literature. The students will be able to connect with the message of the poem and relate it to what is happening in their lives. Students may learn to love poetry and all of the hidden meanings that are contained in poems.
At the beginning of the poem, the speaker starts by telling the reader the place, time and activity he is doing, stating that he saw something that he will always remember. One of the most prevalent of the literary tools used in this poem is the simile. Repeatedly throughout the poem Bishop uses the simile to give the reader a clearer picture of the situation at hand. The simile is an ideal literary tool to use when the author is trying to convey a sensory description of an object or idea. When describing the fish?s physical appearance in lines 9-15 she compares the fish?s skin to ?ancient wallpaper?; this immediately gives the reader an impression of the age and outward appearance of the fish. Later in the poem when in lines 61-62 she describes the pieces of broken fishing line hanging from the fish?s mouth as ?medals with their ribbons / frayed and wavering? she is using a simile to give the impression of pride and honor. My first and immediate explanation for the poem was an address from one lover to a loved one, where distance became a factor in their relationship. The lover has it far worse than the desired partner and the solitude builds nothing but longing for this person at a time when his love is the greatest. He says " What have I to say to you when we shall meet?... I am alone" with my head knocked against the sky”. He further asks, “How can I tell if I shall ever love you again as I do now?” There is uncertainty because he is wondering over the next encounter with his loved one. He says, “I lie here thinking of you” and is compelling when he wants the loved one to see him in the 5th stanza and what love is doing to his state of mind. He is hopeless and expresses it by asking questions he is unsure of, conveying his troubled state. Williams enforces imagery along with sound effects to demonstrate the despair of the man in a realm that is almost dreamlike with purple skies,spoiled colors, and birds. Stating he is alone and that his head collides with the sky may underline the man’s confusion. He also uses imagery in the “stain of love as it eats into the leaves”, and saffron horned branches, vivid and easy-to-imagine images that captivate the reader. The line stating “a smooth purple sky” and this stain which is “spoiling the colours of the whole world” easily formulate a very distinct picture. Through consonance words like “eats” and “smears with saffron” become fiercer in the eyes of this lover as they cancel out a “smooth sky”.
It is a story that provides the ultimate explanation of how two different people who are witnesses to a crime give completely different psychological recollections of the same event. The author reminds us that truth depends on the telling. Someone must step forward and tell that truth.

In contrast, on high' demand of a product, producer can sell and make a lot of profit. The main principle of the capitalism is to give freedom to the individual for their ability to produce something based on consumer demand and, interest in exchange of goods by means of profit and need. In sHort, people get freedom to run the market based on their ability and interest. In an ideal world, it supposed to benefit everyone, producers and consumers, because producer wilf produce and make profit from what people want and consumer will pay what they think the product is worth for. In Capitalism, private owner's make profit over labor. In-real world, labor get less money for their work on which owner make profit. Capitalism provides us freedom of individual, but it neglects the stability of the society.
