It also talks about how games that involve the building and maintaining of cities can teach the players about urban planning and the concepts associated with it. An example of this that was mentioned in the article was the Caesar series by Sierra Games. This game allowed players to build an ancient day Roman metropolis through managing resources and balancing the cultural growth of their cities and citizens. This kind of game is very educational because through it, players could learn to understand the concepts of urban planning that applied to ancient times and let them see how these concepts have evolved to apply to modern times. In a way, it teaches how concepts of urban planning developed through time and the reasons why these happened. It shows why some concepts and ideas which worked before disappeared and why new concepts were invented as the needs of people changed with the innovations in technology and changing …show more content…
The Nobel Prize has always been associated with innovations in the field of science and technology, innovations which deal with curing diseases or improving the lives of millions of people. The idea that simulation games could provide such advantages is eye-opening but at the same time intriguing. The possibility of this happening could bring advantages such as such as the improvement of city planning which in turn would solve numerous everyday problems such as traffic, city economics, settlement, and even public funding, as well as the ideas stated in the previous
In this essay “Disconnected Urbanism” by Paul Goldberg that was published in 2016. Goldberg discusses how technology is affecting how people see the world. People all around the world own cell phones, but it seems the longer cell phones have been around the more people start to rely on them and start to depend on them. There was a time when people would get excited to see new things and go on exciting adventures. Cell phones are slowly but surely taking all the excitement away. Although Paul Goldberg mentions how talking on cell phones is an everyday use, he argues that cell phones are making people miss out on the true beauty the world has to offer.
She also introducing new urban building standards. This this article she talks about, the idea some people have of tearing it down and rebuilding. She also talks about ideas people have about some parts of towns. In Boston, she talks about the area of North End, and the change that it was over gone. During her second visit to this area, she discovered that it had changed. She talked to other about it, although the statistic were higher than the city, the people still saw it as a slum. They felt that they needed to tear it down in order to build something better. This leads to the conclusion that the urban planners to do understand that the people of the city need. They have ideas that were developed years ago that they are still using. These ideas do not take account what the people want. The author also introducing new ideas of a perfect city to live in and what it would look like. The idea of a garden city was introduced. This city would be built around a park. Although the new ideas sounded great they could not be put into place today. The idea of a Garden City is something that sounds nice, but it is not possible in society today. Today a city should reflect economic status, and in order to achieve this the city should be big, and convey an image of power. A city that has aspects of nature in it would not convey that image. That upkeep of a city of that kind would also be difficult. The do understand the author's point of view. The planners often times do not take into account the desires of the people. The town that I grow up in want to become more urbanized. In order to do this, they are building a large shopping center. This shopping center is located in the canyon rim. This canyon rim has been important the people for many years. We come to the area to walk, what bass jumpers, and enjoy the scenic views. This new shopping center took away this area. Many of the people
* Urban Professional^s recognition of the increased variability, robustness, and interest in both the urban area and their work. * Conservation Activist^s commendation of the lower consumption of resources, and reduced pressure on sensitive environment areas, suggestive of a reduction in urban sprawl. * The Development Industry^s equations of profit established through better and higher levels of land use. Essentially urban consolidation proposes an increase of either population or dwellings in an existing defined urban area (Roseth,1991). Furthermore, the suburban village seeks to establish this intensification within a more specific agenda, in which community is to be centred by public transport nodes, and housing choice is to be widened with increased diversity of housing type (Jackson,1998).
We live in a world where simulation can be used for pretty much everything which can sometimes be considered a bad thing, but honestly it is a necessity for a lot of things because it is helpful. Computer simulations can help doctors train and learn to diagnose patients. Simulations are or can be used in so many things like education, science, entertainment, etc. and they are usually beneficial to us because they make us capable of doing more things that we could have never been able to without technology.
McClellan’s (2005) article reports that according to Johnson’s study, computer games are essentially brain exercises that improve the psychological fitness holistically because they require continuous focus, strategic decision-making, and creative thinking. Video games, another form of screen technology, have also been found to improve these aspects which are important as children often find gaming fun and this must be utilised productively to aid the development of cognition / mental acumen. An example of this would be Assassin’s Creed, alternate versions of history role playing game, which develops spatial skills, strategic thinking, and executive
Some may also use historically accurate events to tell their plots. By working with the gaming community, educators can help create more historically accurate information about these types of games. Video games today can even improve critical thinking. Rhea R. Borja states that educational games have a large potential to improve critical thinking, help teach academic curricula, and examine what students learn. Though, it’s unlikely that schools will start investing in video games as a form of teaching, some educators are using video games as a learning tool (Video Game Play May)....
Additionally, another area that could have been improved upon was the overall jazz feel of the piece. While the intentions of each theme were apparent, incorporating a wider variety of jazz styles--Latin, ballads, ragtime--would improve the overall “personality” of the piece. Nevertheless, I am satisfied with the outcomes of the piece for my intentions of a programmatic and memorable video game BGM came to

When I was growing up there were very few computer games that could be used as learning tools. As a child I did have computer class, however this class was used to practice typing or for playing recreational games such as Frogger. When thinking about what to write this paper on I thought of one game that has been on the up rise with children as well as adults. This game is called The SIMS.
Amongst the shelves that are packed with the latest computer software, sits a genre of games, that does not get the recognition that it deserves. Simulation games. These games do not give the player level after level of mind-boggling graphics, blood and gore, or even the feeling of accomplishment. Their one purpose is to give the control to the player, that they would normally not get in their everyday lives. By definition a simulation game is a game where the player must take on a role that is different than his or her everyday life.
...the motivation and attentiveness of the students and specifically, games can become a facilitator for self-directed study and research; when students enjoy a specific area in a game, they become more inclined to search it online, read a book about it, or watch a documentary on it (Rapini, Sarina 2012).
...the ideas that are taught in schools. Games also need to intermix instruction with demonstration. This is a big difference from the basic way of learning in school, which is memorize and regurgitate. Demonstrating shows the student what it looks like and they retain the content longer.
The use of computer based games as learning tools in the classroom has steadily increased over the past several years and is a trend that David Martz, sales VP of education software company Muzzy Lane, believes will continue in the future. Among the games developed by Muzzy Lane is Making History, in which the player leads a European nation in the years preceding World War II (Electronic Education Report 2). Playing a game such as this one allows the learner to immerse himself or herself in the period they are learning about rather than...

At present, as technology progresses, one can truly see that video games have become an important factor in learning.
