In It Happened One Night directed by Frank Capra is a movie that is happy, funny and loving, but at times serious. This movie gives us the excitement of a new found love between a spoiled rich girl named Ellie (Claudette Colbert) and an attractive newspaper reporter named Peter (Clark Gable). Almost two hours of one of the easiest movies to love and laugh at. The story is about an heiress (Ellie) that has run away from her big shot father to go be with the man that she is marrying, which so happens to be King Westley (Jameson Thomas). Only to spend the whole film falling in love with a wisecracking reporter (Peter). Ellie is not the brightest crayon in the box, but once she has Peter by her side she becomes a little more street smart. Peter sees her as a stubborn and spoiled girl that does not want help from anyone. He offers to help …show more content…
her get to Westley, and he would not take no for an answer. This movie sets the pace for a screwball comedy, the witty and romantic clash between a man and a woman. In the movie there is a scene where Ellie and Peter are hitch hiking. Despite his efforts, Peter was not able to flag a car down on his own. Ellie stepped in and decided to show a little leg. The very first car slammed on their breaks and off they went. This scene was one of many that was hilarious and showed how much Peter admired Ellie. The movie brought everyone constant laughs. Consequently, this film is a depression era movie in and out. During the movie people are traveling the country in search for jobs, showing constant hints of hunger, and also the diversity between different social classes. During one of Ellie and Peter’s bus rides a woman has passed out from hunger, and her little boy started explaining their hardship. Without question, Peter gives the little boy the rest of the money that he had. Peter pretends to be a millionaire even though he is becoming more broke than ever before because of the depression. Although this movie was filmed in the 1930’s, the scenery and costumes were incredible and fit the part very well.
The costumes that Colbert wore fit her heiress life style. She was dressed in the finest silk in the beginning and end of the movie. While she was traveling she was more dressed down, which included her stripped sweater and her below the knee cut skirt. As for Gable, his costumes were very well put together. His traveling ensemble in the movie was a trench coat, jacket, and v-neck sweater over a button-down shirt. There were many different looks in this film, and the audience always feels as if they are looking at something new. For all of its humor, sexiness, and wisdom, It happened One night is also great to look at. One of my favorite scenes is when they are in their camping bungalow. In this scene Ellie and Peter get into a fake argument so that the detectives will not know who Ellie really is. Her father sent out the detectives to look for her because she ran away in the beginning of the film. As soon as the detectives leave, Peter and Ellie applaud one another for their amazing performance. It was quite
humorous. In conclusion, there is nothing negative to say about this film. Eighty years after being made It happened One Night remains a great romantic comedy. It all came across as effortlessly entertaining with some classic scenes and characters you learn to care for. This film rightfully earns its place as one of the greatest romantic comedies in film history.
The theme that has been attached to this story is directly relevant to it as depicted by the anonymous letters which the main character is busy writing secretly based on gossip and distributing them to the different houses. Considering that people have an impression of her being a good woman who is quiet and peaceful, it becomes completely unbecoming that she instead engages in very abnormal behavior. What makes it even more terrible is the fact that she uses gossip as the premise for her to propagate her hate messages not only in a single household but across the many different households in the estate where she stays.
The costuming in Edward Scissorhands was very thought out and was used to develop the characters, as well as the story. For example, the townspeople who took in Edward seemed to be regular people in a regular town. The people wore bright colored clothing with colorful accesories as well. The women wore bright clothing, either dresses or a pair of leggings, with bright makeup as well. The men wore casual work clothes, and all of this gives of a normal vibe to the town as if nothing out of the ordinary happens in it. Another example of the clothing in the film is when Peg (Avon lady) sees Edward for the first time. This moment can make the audience start to compare the moods that both characters give off. Edward lived in a dark, gloomy place
The film reflects the class difference from beginning through the end, especially between Annie and Helen. Annie is a single woman in her late 30s without saving or boyfriend. She had a terrible failure in her bakery shop, which leads her to work as a sale clerk in a jewelry store. When Annie arrived Lillian’s engagement party,
The play is about a young woman, Catherine who had been taking care of her father during his last years of life. Anne Heche plays Catherine. Prior to this play, I have never seen Anne Heche in any acting performance. I have to say she did an outstanding job in her portrayal of Catherine. She did a fantastic job of immediately drawing you into Catherine’s world. She aptly portrays the characteristics of a girl who never got a chance to grow up and the slight madness of the genius she inherited from her father. One can easily feel sad for her because after all she gave up all her dreams to take care of her ailing father. Anne Heche plays Catherine so well that it easy for you to fall in love with Catherine and desire only good things for her.
The movie is set in a barbaric and medieval type era, which is represented through the dirty, outdoors look of the characters. Many of the characters’ appearances depict their lifestyles and what role in society they belong to. Conan’s character is seen wearing very minimal amounts of clothing which usually consist of animal fur through most of the movie because he experiences a slave-like lifestyle for nearly half of his life. His character represents a strong, masculine man, therefore, he is usually seen shirtless when performing manly acts. The different types of clothing Conan wears emphasize his barbaric and violent demeanor. By the end of the film, the viewer experiences the dramatic evolution of Conan’s clothing. Conan is wearing full body armor. This implies the power and leadership Conan gains after he finally defeats Thulsa Doom, who killed his parents when he was a child. Also, in the film other characters’ costumes relate to the time period being conveyed. The actors/actresses playing the characters in the village Conan visits, wear more clothing and their clothes correspond with their roles in society. These people consist of the working class, and the clothing helps to let the audience understand each characters service they are providing. The upper class wore more clothing, but the clothing features more armor or expensive jewelry rather than the animal clothes and
The costumes in Shrek The Musical were the cherry on top of an already well produced play. Shrek and Fiona looked like actual ogres and looked very realistic with the green face and body paint. From head to toe, Shrek looked like a real life ogre. His clothing topped of him ogre like look and made him look very far from human. Similarly, when Fiona turned into an ogre she envisioned an ogre from head to toe. Donkey’s costume was also very realistic. He looked very similar to Donkey in the movie and his ears brought the whole costume to life. Lord Farquaad’s costume was the most interesting in my personal opinion. His costume was made very creatively to make him look oddly short. He was left walking on his knees throughout the show and there was a black piece of fabric with short legs on the front to hide his actual legs. His makeup, especially his eyebrows made him look more sassy which fit his character very well. The flashy gems and fabric of his costume made him look like royalty which was very well fitting since he is a king in the play. Another costume that stood out to me was Pinnochio’s. His nose that lengthened when he lied was very creatively made and also very realistic. The body paint on his face and arms made him look like a real life doll and his shoes were a good touch in my opinion to the costume.

The film is portrayed in the past and present scenario setting. It is based on a young couple’s love and passion for one another, but are unexpectedly separated due to the disapproval of the teen girl parents and the social differences in their life. At the start of the movie, it displays a nursing home style setting with an elderly man named Duke (James Garner), reading to an elderly woman named Mrs. Hamilton (Gena Rowlands), whose memory is inevitably deteriorating. The story he reads to her is a love story about two teenagers named Allie (Rachel McAdams) and Noah (Ryan Gosling), that met in the 1940’s at a carnival in Seabrook Island, South Carolina. The two teens are from different cultural lifestyles,
This movie is interesting because of the singing and the theme of it which was to let the trees grow. Once-ler came to learn his lesson after destroying and ruin everything he once dream about, since his ambition took over his dream mode zone in his mind. He lives in the shadow for many years until the young boy Ted shows up and help once-ler to come back to his right state of mind.
This movie follows the relationship of the two main characters from the time Léon saves Mathilda's life against his better judgment. This event causes both of their lives to take a detour that ends up giving meaning to both of their existences. She is trapped living in a dysfunctional family environment with an abusive father and step-mother, a hateful step-sister and her quite little brother with only a dismal outlook on her future. She is a precocious young girl who's life seems to have several parallels with the Cinderella story. Léon is a stoic, uneducated and an unremorseful killer that is totally unemotional and unattached to the world around him. He becomes the prince that saves her.
Blanche Dubois the main character of the play, was an English teacher in Mississippi. She presents herself as a very prim, proper, and prudent person. She once proudly told her sister Stella that her name in French meant white woods. Blanche Dubois is also overly concerned with her appearance, accessories, bathing and age. She was very disturbed by the light, and usually preferred to be in the dark. Many believe it was to prevent people from noticing her real age. Deep inside she was hurt and destroyed. All of this pain was caused by the death of the love of her life. She was married to a young man named Allan, and they loved each other very much. Until one day Blanche found out that Allan was sleeping with another man. Once she confessed to him she knew his secret he committed suicide. Ever since, Blanches’ life was never the same again.
