As the economy slows down, jobs are harder and harder to find, getting an education is on one of the most important steps to help you in life. Having a master’s degree in your field can help you stand out from the rest when applying for a job and it’s easier than ever to earn your degree, as many colleges and universities have started opening master degree programs online but is that really the best choice? While earning your masters degree has become more popular due to technology growing rapidly, many majors need that essential “ in-class” learning experience. Achieving any degree in a certain field is difficult and very time consuming. Many choose to finish their masters online these days to consume their time and hopefully get their degree quicker than they would if they went to the classes. There are degrees that need that in class learning experience, to have hands on experience compared to other degree that do not. For example, and engineering degree needs that in class learning experience. They have many branches of engineering such as civil, chemical, electrical and mechanical and many more. With all these different types of braches they need high levels of math and science plus they have to be hands on making models, prototypes and destructive test to see if their products are successful. Now if we compare that type of degree to a history degree, the difference is huge and you can do the history degree online. History is more about analyzing and reading many historical events from the past to understand why things happened or the motives/causes behind the event. Being hands on gives you the experience that an online course cannot give you and do you really want someone building a bridge that did not have those hands on e... ... middle of paper ... ...t miss out on a lot, they miss out on getting to know your classmates that could help you in the long run, it helps on social skills and being able to put yourself out there in front of others. Also being able to show your professor that you are passionate at what you want to do in life and that you’re great at it is a great feeling and if your professor knows that most of them are willing to help you achieve that goal. With getting your masters online you sit down for a couple of hours and get the work you have due done without really having than in class experience. If you’re trying to make a better life for yourself why take away all the benefits that come along with taking your masters in a in-class setting? One of the major advantages of an online degree program is the flexibility it provides to someone working a demanding job, living geographically removed from a college campus, or that simply finds it most convenient for a host of other reasons. These challenges of the modern workforce have in fact been the big driver behind the exponential rise in online degree programs over the past decade. Furthermore, the flexibility provided by an online degree program enables tailoring a program matched to personal learning style and pace.
Most of the time, a student cannot learn at their own pace of the subject because the teacher has a schedule and other students so that student can easily fall behind or not feel as if they are learning. Also, if a student misses a class due to an illness or some other sort of reason they will get behind in classes, while with online class the student can still work while sick or the class will not move on without them. Some schools do not offer some classes that students wish to take. For example, some schools may not present a language class that the pupil wishes to take but online they have a better chance of being able to take that
Some students enjoy traditional universities while others prefer online universities. If someone chooses a traditional university and then realizes that he or she is unable to keep up with his or her schedule and class work, this student might decide to try an online university. Ultimately, everyone chooses which route works best for him or her.
There is good reason for the growth in online learning in college environments. Student populations have diversified since the introduction of the personal computer and internet (O’Malley and McCraw). Students with geographic, job, or other constraints are now able to benefit from a college education because advances in technology have enabled learning for those for whom higher education was previously not within the realm of possibility.
When students are deciding on where to go to college, they have the option of choosing between online classes and the traditional classroom classes. Today, some students are finding it much easier to maintain a job, family and start a college career, all by taking online classes. Although some students still prefer to stick with the traditional classroom classes, they still have the option to take online classes. Both online and the traditional classes will provide the educational requirements needed to obtain a college degree and opportunities in the work field. Although the online classes offer just as much as the traditional classes, they are completely different when it comes to teaching methods, course material and time.
A student out on their own can be scary experience, therefore, having some type of stability to rely on is helpful, it is also good to have a little extra money for other expenses as well, and thanks to hybrid courses that is possible for students the cost of having a seated course is daunting, due to the stress of having to find money to pay for the expensive textbooks, but with the creation of hybrid classes, some courses offer e-books, which are electronic books that require little or no money. The burden of transportation from class each day is fixed with hybrid courses as most classes only meet once, maybe twice a week, and then the rest of the classwork is online. The student would save gas by not having to commute to class more often than they would for a seated course. The tension of having transportation and the cost of books can be unloaded with an online-assisted course. Additionally, with the strain that seated courses add to personal relationships as it takes one away from home and
The flexibility that online learning provides allows student to complete degrees while working, in-between job, or raising a family to start a new profession or advance in their
Sometimes, other things can get in the way of your study time. When you go to school, there is a schedule to go by and nothing can really get in the way of distracting you from studying. Being in the classroom listening to a teacher is much more interesting than sitting at home staring at a computer monitor. Not every teacher makes lessons interesting, but most do, so I think it outweighs learning over the internet. A lot of different courses are offered over the internet.
The question is can you handle attending a university full-time or are you considering something more flexible? A gain to taking an online course is that they offer flexibility to all students. This is a big option for those students who already have their time engaged with family or work. Online classes you can log on to your account at any time opposed to having to be present for a lecture at a specific time. According to David Rogers at Website University flexibility was a huge thing for him.
The opportunity to obtain a degree through an online setting has provided some liberation to students who then take advantage of that opportunity. The problem, however, lies in employment upon successful completion of an online program. Having an online degree possibly means some bumps down the road of employment, being that the degree could perhaps be ranked lower, as opposed to the traditional degree. Studies show that employers are more prone to hire someone with a traditional degree versus an online degree. In the Chronicle of Online Education, Carnevale states that, “The reviews of individuals who assess qualified candidates for particular positions demonstrate an inclination against online degrees, although these programs are becoming more readily accessible through universities on the web (Carnevale 2007)”. It is clear that even with the qualifications that one may possess from online education, employers still remain inclined. Some employers may feel that the degrees can’t correlate with one another and that one receives a better understanding of the coursework at traditional colleges. In the article, Employer’s Perspective of Online Education, Linardopoulos finds apprehensions regarding employer’s views of online learning. He says, “Online learning does not provide adequate
Structure in an elementary classroom is necessary for learning and rules help implement structure and balance. The classroom would be chaotic, messy and unsusceptible to learning without rules. As teacher, we must create an environment that promotes learning, prevents stress and enable the teacher to have control during the day. Safety is the most important job of a teacher and rules are necessary in keeping students safe throughout the day.
One thing I think needs to be changed at Crowder is the amount of control some teachers take over their class. No one wants a teacher that is excessively strict, but if the teacher is too lenient with disruptive students and cutting class short every day just to try to cram everything in half the time, it can turn the class into a bad learning environment where the ones who suffer are the students who are trying the hardest.
A college degree is not essential to achieve success in today’s society because while facing numerous barriers to educational opportunities, there is no guarantee whether or not one is going to thrive. Therefore, success requires not only instructional skills, but practical experience and own life skills.
Some students within society need to have online learning to complete college degrees due to their lifestyles. While it
Those who disagree with me think that online learning allows a student to learn at their own pace. Students are able to take the time to understand and figure out problems with the resources that are provided. The convenience of learning in an environment that is conducive to that particular students learning is provided by the student. If the student feels comfortable they are more apt
