Though my writing has improved it still needs a lot of work. My writing skill is not where I would like it to be. English is the hardest class for me and I often find myself being surprised by my grades as I try to work very hard on my essays. My essays are often confusing and don't normally make a clear point. I am general not very pound of my essays as I can see how someone would be confused by my work. I know that my essays are often atrocious, but I am not sure how to communicate my thoughts into clear and cleanly cut sentences. My essays don't seem to have a specific topic even though I try to communicate one. They tend to veer of course and lose their point. On this essay the main difficult I had was failure to discuss one topic statement in one paragraph. On each paragraphs there were a mix up idea that it was difficult for a reader to fully understand the main message on each paragraph. The other difficulty I had was using a proper punctuation. I have tried to address those issues with reading English punctuation resources and also from a wonderful feedback I got from my professor. As the first semester of my sophomore year wraps up, I begin to realize that I have learned a lot in all of my classes. The class that I learned the most from has definitely been my English 111 course. This class have given me so many opportunities to improve my writing skills. With all of the success I’ve had in this class, I believe I will do just fine with writing later in my life.
Writing and reading are two essential skills that we need to have in order to succeed in any field of study that we have chosen. Without these two we would not be here, wouldn’t be writing right now and would be considered the lowest class of our society. There are different aspects of writing that each of us may, or may not, excel at. Some of us are creative enough to write short stories or even novels on fiction while others, like me, are better at writing essays. To accomplish this we have all had a person to inspire us, to drive us, to get us over the hump of confidence that we need to succeed. Still to be successful we need to count on ourselves to succeed.
Regardless of all of these improvements, I know my writing is still far from perfect. My arguments still lack the emotional appeal that, if present, would make my audience consider my arguments a lot faster. My analysis still lack development because often times I just state what happens instead of explaining why. In general, I need to work on controlling my voice and tone throughout an entire essay, which can be fixed if I choose my words more carefully to make sure my diction is uniform. Despite all of this, I am satisfied with myself, I am satisfied with the ways my writing has changed, with the way my writing skills have grown. Why? Because I am learning, and I know that I will continue improving as long as I take chances.
Writing a decent essay is as tedious, as nerve-racking, and as strenuous as constructing a layer cake from scratch. First you have to decide that you are going to tackle this feat, and that can be your biggest challenge, motivation. Then you must figure out what kind of cake batter you want to use. Collect all the ingredients to mesh together well, making one layer at a time. You throw all the layers together hoping that somehow they will come together to form a nifty design, but they don’t immediately. For now it is just a leaning tower of cake parts. So you start revising and modifying, adding toothpicks, trying to rectify the lean of the cake on one side. You coat the whole damn thing in icing, attempting to make it look better, but the first coat always turns out like a child’s Play-Doh experiment. Then you begin to refine the finite details and to make the stylistic upgrades. And finally, after hours and days, gray hairs and nausea, behold, a somewhat presentable and hopefully edible layer cake emerges.
Every person has their own unique way of writing which makes their writing stand out among the other people’s writing. Weather a person’s writing is full of high leveled vocabulary to a person use of complex sentences. Throughout the semester I had many times where I felt that my writing was weak at certain points or at times where my writing skills to started to improve. The major assignments and the short answer responses helped improve my skills as a writer. Even though all three major assignments helped improved my writing skills, the one that had the most effect in my writing was the report essay as it helped discover new methods while also the short answer response number 4 helped me to analysis images in an aspect that I did not know before.
Throughout this essay I have learned more than I have in my four years of high school English. Being able to learn so much information in such a little time was amazing to me. I learned different kind of rhetorical styles to write in, what each ones purpose is, how to have online discussions with other peers and lastly I learned how to improved my writing skills in general.
Overall this semester, I believe my writing in this course has been one of my strongest areas and I am excited to keep getting better at this skill. With my mother’s help during middle and high school, my papers have improved significantly and now I think I have a firm grasp on writing for various disciplines, but particularly professional settings like social work. I picked up on APA format quickly after doing MLA for several years and it now feels like second nature to me. There are certainly still formatting areas to improve upon and learn more about, but at this stage, I think I am progressing steadily. Thirdly, I am able to find appropriate sources easily to reference in my activity analyses, which is crucial as I advance in the program.
I was never a person that liked to write essays. This semester I really enjoyed writing those essays and specially because I was learning new things while writing them. Some things I could do to improve my essay writing are not to wait till the last three or four days before I turn my essay in to start doing it. Another thing I will do is if I forget how to do something or about some rule in the common errors I made I will just go back to all the lessons I printed out to have as reference. I think those will help me allot. And one last thing I will do to improve my writing is to try my best not to confuse all those words I got confused. I will do my best to learn each word and its rule of where it goes so I won’t have the same mistakes I had this semester.
When writing , make sure to have a solid introduction with a hook that will grab the reader's attention, a bridge sentence to connect the hook to the thesis, and a one sentence thesis that summarizes the point being made. When writing the three main paragraphs, try to use personal examples or experiences to make the story more interesting. In the essay, it is also important to have a good conclusion that summarizes the point that is trying to be made, but without repeating the thesis statement. Another idea is that you can create a rough draft on a seperate sheet of paper, making it easier to type up the final
Everyone is expected to use their writing skills either for homework or note taking. The first week of college and I'm already having up to 3 pages of notes for each class. I would like to be more organized in my writing. Although there are more things I would like to change about my writing, I'm satisfied with the way I write.
A mentally disabled but diligent female high school student attends a tutoring session at the learning center to work on a classroom writing assignment. Despite encouragement and prompts from the tutor, the student is unable to write. She states that she hates writing and declares that she will take a zero for the grade rather than complete the assignment.
In my opinion, over the years, my current writing skills have improved. Beforehand, I used to have difficulties understanding the proper format of sentences and had dragged sentences on. However, my current writing skills are becoming more developed. The composition of my writing has become more concise, clear, and understandable. Furthermore, some of the dominant skills my writing demonstrates is; avoiding slang, jargon, and transitions. With each of these skills in mechanical writing, my papers have become more advanced, more concise, and able to follow the primary goal. So, from these writing mechanics, my personal writing has matured. This allows my personal writing to evolve further. Nevertheless, my current writing skills have improved by becoming more concise, clear and understandable.
Before taking English 1A, I was a discouraged writer because as an English learner, I did not believe that I had any ability to be an acceptable writer. Therefore, I did not have any joy while I was doing writing assignments. However, I have gradually loved writing through this semester. I fortunately got plenty of helps from my classmates and professor; thus, my writing skills have gotten improved a lot. I currently can feel that writing is a quite enjoyable process, and I like delivering my ideas to other people by writing, too. I am really proud that I have enhanced my pre-writing skills, writing structure and revising skills and have learned how to write an effective thesis statement and how to deal with rhetorical analysis. However, I still have lots of deficiencies in my articles, such as grammar problem and the lack of logical transition.
