How could I Improve the Food at the School? Kids hardly eat at school, yet when they do it is unhealthy. Parents don’t have time to prepare a lunch for their kids since they have a million things to juggle around with. However, they do believe that their kids will eat at school and not skip lunch and starve especially if they are constantly working and getting exhausted for 8 hours a day. On the contrary, the food they offer at school campuses and the food they offer at jobs are not the same. School lunches can be improved in many ways, if the district were to hire professional cooks that can prepare meals incorporating both healthy and nutritious value into their meals. I have done a survey about the eating habits of students’ at our school …show more content…
Yes, lunches will be even more healthier than what was being served, but students will still refuse to eat it. For example , the changes that have been made to make school lunches healthier did not work to feed more kids, instead it made students put the healthy choices in their trays but not eat it. According to studies made by reporter Kate Scanlon,” only 58 percent chose a fruit and 59 percent chose a vegetable. And among those who put the various types of food on their trays, only 24 percent ate a bite of their vegetables”(The Daily Signal, page.01). So even with healthy choices that does not mean students will actually decide to eat lunch …show more content…
School chefs is a good because students will be recieving a hot meal made not microwaved and or heated to keep warm. Another pro is chefs know how to make food appetizing and healthy without kids knowing. One main reason why schools should hire chefs is that if students see that chefs cooked a healthy meal they would most likely tell their parents and they would eat a bit more healthier than before. “and having the chefs there showed the kids that the school cared about them, and cared about what they were feeding them” (Here’s one way to improve school lunches,par.8). It will give students the trust in schools and
Allowing healthier school lunches will decrease obesity in children because it will give them the proper nutrition to reduce the risk of health issues. Since obesity causes many health issues, maintaining a proper nutrition will reduce the risk of health issues. According to Star- Telegram, a daily newspaper that serves Fort Worth and areas of North Texas states, “[School lunches that have] a meal of pizza sticks, a banana, raisins and whole milk has given way to whole wheat spaghetti with meat sauce, a whole wheat roll green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, kiwi and low-fat milk … This change will help more than 2.4 million Texas students who receive a free or reduced- price school lunch to lead healthier, more active lives—in and out of the classroom”(Par. 2 and 4). School lunches are supposed to guarantee students a well balance meal, so they can have the energy to proceed with their classes throughout the day. Meanwhile, students who receive a f...
The shocking truth about our school lunches is that they are not health for young kids. The meat most schools use K.F.C and Campbell soup refuse to buy such meat. This shows that school lunch is not very health for kids if fast food won’t even use it. Schools are also
According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years,” meaning that America’s children need to start eating healthier, including healthier school lunches. The National School Lunch Act is a fairly recent addition to American society. For, as the world waged war a second time, the United States began to worry about the strength and health of the country’s soldiers. However, in the beginning, selling excess agricultural goods was more important than building a healthy, well-balanced meal for students. Unfortunately, many children coming from poorer families could not afford well-balanced school lunches, so in order to compensate, the School Lunch Program changed its focus to help these students. This program, however, decreased schools’ lunch budgets, and schools had a hard time keeping up with the amount of free meals they had to provide, so they came up with some extra ways to increase revenue. However, in a small town in Massachusetts, one chef makes a difference in the health of the school lunch students eat each day, and proves that hiring a trained chef to cook real, healthy meals can increase profit. Unfortunately, that is not the case in most schools across the nation. The quality of health of the food being served in school lunches is extremely poor and was allowed to decline even more with a new set of rule changes. However, there are some improvements currently being made to increase the quality of health of the food being served to students, including teaching them all about food and its nutritional information, both good and bad. In order for students to eat healthier lunches at school, the USDA needs to implement healthier ...
School lunches affect the students school work and the grades, due to the unhealthy lunches at school. Without the students getting the right nutrition needed, they do not meet the academic expectations. The teachers expect the students to perform well in school especially through the year. “Without good food, students are just stressed out with school, and then still stressed about being encouraged to perform good as well” (Anderson). When students get the proper nutrition it can help them avoid bad behavior that would require getting detention, suspension or even expulsion(Anderson). School lunches could also affect the grades the students receive because they lack the nutrition they need. “Studies have shown that students grades went up when they are eating healthier”(Anderson). If schools had healthier lunches it would help raise their grades by 4% because with the food needed to have focus and energy to do
The healthier lunch menu would cause more sickness because it something the students never had.; therefore, more students would miss school. Changing the lunch menu would cause students go get fast food, not eat school lunch is a bad idea if the school wants to continue getting money.
Of course kids like diversity and they want more food choices , but an open campus lunch has its own disadvantages. Imagine having an open campus during lunch hour and about forty minutes to go grab lunch , the first thought that comes to mind would most likely be a fast food restaurant such as McDonald's because it takes little time to get ready and it is much cheaper. Allison Aubrey writes that, “ Every day about 1 in 3 kids in the U.S. is chowing down on fries , burgers , pizza , or other fast-food favorites and despite all the promptings to eat more healthfully, this rate of fast-food consumption has not budged in the past 15 years . ” (Aubrey). This quote shows that kids are obsessed with fast food and an open campus lunch would increase this rate and it would hurt their wallets as well
Moreover, the controversy over cafeteria food is whether or not it is healthy for all students from elementary schools to colleges. Numerous factors lead to unhealthy eating in schools and on campuses. Sometimes options with better nutrition are offered, but when there are, they tend to be less appealing than the unhealthy foods which turns to obesity. Many schools are undergoing budget cuts and changes, and healthy food tends to take a back burner when deciding where the limited amounts of money should go (Gupta). Unfortunately, when schools do have healthy ingredients, the food is usually prep...
I walked into the lunchroom, and they handed me my lunch tray. They gave me a scoop of orange looking spaghetti with 3 meatballs that were the size of a tennis ball. The school should change the school lunch menu because the food looks raw and like different color, also the food looks disgusting, and its really bad for your health. I believe they can change the schools lunch preparation.
In Natomas District, they need to provide better quality food to keep the students to be satisfied with “this food is great!” than their perspective from complaining about “School food is terrible!” in a
Yesica Aguilar Dr. Lefebvre 23 July 2015 The Changes in School Food and Ingredients: Trying to Help Obesity in Children School lunches have been the target for helping reduce obesity in children and adolescent in schools. Since the speech of Mrs. Obama in 2010, school food had been modifying. More healthy ingredients are incorporated in their schools food and other ingredients are been eliminated from the menus.
Have you ever tasted school cafeteria food? I don’t think you would want to. In school story books, do you have characters saying that the food tasted good at school cafeterias? Nope. Why is this? Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better, advanced lunch system should be implemented.
I think I speak for everyone who has gone through the public education system when I say "School food sucks," its not something every student wakes up excited about in the morning, and many would much rather bring their own lunches to school than endure that gruel the lunch
Albeit, schools are taking the authority in having healthier food choices, although, in schools like HHS, french fries, pizza, buffalo wings are still being served. There are salads available for students but not all students are lining up to get their side of greens. Even so, nutritionists believe that children will learn to get used to the healthier meals served at school (Keiner). Michelle Obama, along with dieticians and nutritionists, believe that with healthier meals at school, it will make way for a decrease in obesity rates as kids will develop healthy eating habits. However, the students only have lunch at school and have different meals at home for breakfast and lunch.
School Meals Over the past 3 years, I have encountered many new experiences, one of which is the food served on campus. Many parents are not aware of the type of food they serve on campus. This is a very important issue we need to solve to improve the health of all the kids and teens in schools. They claim that the food they serve is a good balanced meal, is really just a poor attempt to meet the requirements for a good healthy meal.
