As a leader it is important to have a vision and a goal, but it is even more crucial to have followers who trust in your vision and goals. Trust is developed by displaying positive energy and attitude. Having a goal and a vision helps an organization move into the future. Without a goal or a vision an organization is going nowhere. Andy Stanley begins with the origin of a vision. Stanley (1999) contends, “Visions are born in the soul of a man or woman who is consumed with the tension between what is and what could be” (p. 17). According to Stanley, a vision is the ability to see what is possible in light of the present reality. A leader will not a have a vision for an organization if he is content with the status quo. Conversely, it is out of discontent that a vision is birth within a leader’s heart.
Goal attainment: Leadership involves goal attainment. It includes attention to goals and directs a group of individuals towards accomplishing a defined task or goal.
After a vision is created, the leader must be able to implement and communicate with their stakeholders. While in both essays Sleep Duration and Cognitive Performance in Adolescence and Understanding Adolescents’ Sleep Pattern and School Performance: a Critical Appraisal, researchers have ended up with statements that confirm the positive relationship between sleep and academic performance, though the latter with part disagreement, in another essay Association of Sleep and Academic Performance, the findings were different. The research shows that the amount of sleep has no apparent effect on the students’ academic performances.
Sleep deprivation is a commonplace occurrence in modern culture. Every day there seems to be twice as much work and half as much time to complete it in. This results in either extended periods of wakefulness or a decrease in sleep over an extended period of time. While some people may like to believe that they can train their bodies to not require as much sleep as they once did this belief is false (1). Sleep is needed to regenerate certain parts of the body, especially the brain, so that it may continue to function optimally. After periods of extended wakefulness or reduced sleep neurons may begin to malfunction, visibly effecting a person's behavior. Some organs, such as muscles, are able to regenerate even when a person is not sleeping so long as they are resting. This could involve lying awake but relaxed within a quite environment. Even though cognitive functions might not seem necessary in this scenario the brain, especially the cerebral cortex, is not able to rest but rather remains semi-alert in a state of "quiet readiness" (2). Certain stages of sleep are needed for the regeneration of neurons within the cerebral cortex while other stages of sleep seem to be used for forming new memories and generating new synaptic connections. The effects of sleep deprivation on behavior have been tested with relation to the presence of activity in different sections of the cerebral cortex.
As a project team leader with an ever growing and dynamic project base, which often has four or five projects running simultaneously, this project leader has recognized the need for an authentic leadership vision that inspires others within the organization and correlated project teams to share the vision. Establishing consensus and evaluating the implementation of a vision process will be addressed within this document along with a step by step vision implementation process where a positive vision is created and fostered within this project oriented organization. The vision implementation process will consist of: a) eliciting a sense of urgency for implementing the vision; b) developing an expert vision implementation project team, c) developing interaction strategies where feedback is valued from the entire team, d) navigate challenges through scenario planning sessions, e) modify project strategies so changes are accepted and implemented quickly, and f) document and record project progress, obstacles and lessons learned. In conclusion, there will be a summary of what success within an authentic leadership organizational vision entails.
In this lab we studied the effects of sleep on learning. Using what we have learned in class, we know that the normal sleep period for adults is around an average of 7-8 hours a night. What we wanted to determine by the use of this lab was to show how changing the amount of sleep we get at night might affect our cognitive performance the next day. We can assume that having more or less sleep than the norm, definitely has an effect on our learning, specifically on our short term memory but what our study was designed to test was whether that is a positive or negative effect. We presume that having too little or too much can be detrimental to our learning capacity, specifically our memory retention rate. More specifically, we hypothesized that if we have a normal 8 hour sleep duration, then we will have better memory than if we were to sleep more or less than 8 hours.
Sleep is necessary to function in everyday life. Without sleep, humans become impaired, and simple day-to-day activities become harder to do. Sleep deprivation is increasing steadily among the human population as some humans strive to prolong the time that they are awake believing that sleeping is a waste of time. The overall results from these experiments showed that university student are sleep deprived, due to assignments deadlines, staying up late at nights to study and the importance of achieving good grades. Most of the students did not function optimally during the day, since they did not get the require amount of sleep, which was eight hours. Some of them were falling asleep during class, struggling to stay focus, and were unable to retain information that they need to know. Some of the participants hypothesized that they were sleep deprived and their hypothesis was supported based on their result.
