The annual tuition fee of many top universities in the world, according to Laura Tucker s’ report on TopUniversities.com, is never less than $40,000. These universities are the dreams of many students, which include Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, Harvard University and also Yale University. Why these dreams cost such a high price? Many people will think that the tuition fee has ruined many students’ dream in college education. It is not really true. Knowledge is one of the most essential elements in a person’s life. Everybody pursues his or her own aspiration such as becoming a doctor, a teacher, or an engineer, etc. Apparently, college education is the best tool to follow their aspiration. Kwame Anthony Appiah, a philosopher and a cultural theorist from New York University explains on nytimes.com, “College is about building your soul as much as your skills.” Indeed, it helps students explore more things about what he or she is interested in. He also adds, “Students want to think critically about the values that guide them, and they will inevitably want to test out their ideas and ideals in the campus community.” However, to do that a college needs instructors, faculty members, spaces, classrooms, technology equipments, library and many more things. In fact, it requires lots of financial sources to achieve those qualifications. Another article on nytimes.com called “Is College Tuition Really Too High?” by economic reporter Adam Davidson has also discuss about the college finance, “Like hotels and apartment buildings, for example, colleges and universities own expensive real estate that is parceled out for use by paying customers.” And to have enough expense for such things, besides the government’s fund, each student needs to pay a particularly price.
