Importance of Incorporating STEM into the Classroom
There are seven point four million people in the world. Out of that seven million three point six million are teachers. These teachers are responsible for the training of future generations. Some of these teachers teach more helpful subjects than others. For example one of the more beneficial of these classes is a class dealing in the basics of science, technology, engineering, and math. Since the STEM incorporation helps to increase the educational and mental level of the students, STEM should be required for at least a year throughout American elementary schools.

Ted Colegrove writes, A study was conducted comparing the people that took STEM careers to the people that didn’t . STEM is an acronym standing for science, technology, engineering, and math. Stem stands for science, technology, engineering, and math because those are the four things that are essential for success. Also, because these are the four-most field involved in real world activities and jobs. Stem can also be used to stimulate ones imagination, but Stem can also be fun. When doing stem you can do many fun things that not only stimulate your imagination, but also allow you to experience fun such as building balsa wood bridges, making mousetrap cars, constructing water bottle rockets, or doing fun clubs like sea perch, NESBE, VEX, and/or
STEM is significant to our society, we need jobs not only to compete globally, but to also fix the important problems of the world. Technology is pervasive in almost every aspect of daily life, and as the workplace changes, STEM knowledge and skills grow in importance for a variety of workers (not just for mathematicians and scientists) (Traurig par. 6). If corporations increase female participation in the future, not only will it increase more genders and diversity to work in the corporation, but it will also help solve the important problems of the world because of all the minds that are working together. STEM is the future for this next generation as technology use is on the rise and more problems occur day by day. Remember when turning on the TV to show your daughter the commercials, that one commercial you showed can be the difference between her being interested in STEM or
In this generation, with this continuously improving developments and the global economy, education that is of high quality is not only the pathway towards opportunity but it is a pre-requisite that one needs for achieving success. Since educational achievement and economic progress are inextricably linked, it is essential to educate every student in America so as to graduate from high school fully prepared to join college and for a career is of national importance. So as to create an economy that will last, there should be revision of competitive and complete education that can enable learners to succeed in the global economy that is based on innovation and knowledge. As college students, it is important that we know and care about the issue of stem cell research. Stem cell research is currently legal in most countries. The United States, normally a leader in new frontiers, is one of the last to explore this territory. As it is slowly being pushed forward, we are going to have to know about it. If it keeps progressing, we as citizens will have to vote on it. It affects most of our lives in a personal way. Most of you know at least one person with diabetes, Alzheimer’s, or Parkinson’s. Perhaps even you will face one of these illnesses at some point in your life. It is important to know about issues like stem cell research, which can help many people in our society.
If high schools offered courses that would be similar to a career field, students would be able to have an idea or know what field of work they want to go into. I know if medical classes were offered at my school, I would’ve tried to take as many as I could, so then I could decide where in the medical field I would like to work in. With a career based courses, students would get a generalized idea of what knowledge and skills that are required for that certain job. Knowing what knowledge and skills that are required for certain job would help students stick with one career in mind. Students would also have an easier time when they are trying to pick classes for college considering they would already know what career field interests them. According to Shaunessy, students who are going into college don’t recognize what career they want to go into. “Majority of college students switch their majors at least twice while in their college career,” says Shaunessy. Students that have a career like courses offered at their high school, might help them in deciding a career before getting out of high school. Students would also feel more prepared and have more confidence when going into
In conclusion, the core curriculum is vital to life of any student, yet with more personal choice and freedom, the high school environment can be strengthened and improved . Having a more balanced high school curriculum, with more options for the students, would also allow students to narrow their focus on a particular field or subject, while preparing them for their major in college. It would even boost the confidence of the student body, and therefore boost the Test scores as well. In addition, students who have trouble recognizing their talents, might be able to have a more fulfilling high school experience. The purpose of school is to prepare one for the future and ones occupation; it is certain, that having a more elective-based high school program would do just that.
Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” The importance of an education is repeatedly shown through past and present events. Those who can’t afford an education do whatever it takes to try and learn. They know that it will lead to a better future for them. An education will not only lead to a job with more money, but it will also expand people’s minds. They will be able to create new ideas and inventions. The best way for us to change the world is through educating our youth. With a better education, they can become inspired to invent new things. Some could grow up to find cures to diseases. Educating the youth is the key to changing the world. The children of today are the leaders of tomorrow. The best way for us to give a good education to our youth is by refining our school system. We need to redefine the term ‘education.’ Teachers in classrooms change the world because they are teaching the future generation that will one day lead. If we want to change the world for the better, educating the youth is th...
College is a place for people to learn a career, but students need to be wary of which one they chose. These past few years and days I have noticed if you have a high school diploma or GED there is a very vague chance of getting a good productive job let alone a career. So some teachers and many other people that are in students lives pressure them to go to college. Those students become unhappy and the job they or their family chose for them may not be one in demand. Many of those graduates search for a job in the workforce, which many times turns out to do no good. Students in specific educational programs like applied associate of science programs
In the 1980’s a report called “A Nation At Risk” stated that American children had fallen behind in such subjects as math and science. Thus came the advent of education’s increased focus on literacy and numeracy, accountability and academic standards. These high standards, according to Dumas (2000), are the most significant trend in schools today.
This class has opened my mind to the incredible impact that STEM Education can have on our society. I do not work in an institution that has a STEM program. I work at a preschool; this makes my practice of any type of STEM program extremely limited. However, it is a private school. All my students come from households where one or both of their parents are professionals. These professionals want their children to be academically prepared for school. This means we must academically, mentally, and emotionally prepare them for their future schooling. I teach my students how to be a functioning participant in a classroom while exploring mathematics, science, art, history, literature and pre-writing. Puzzles, counting, shapes, measuring, etc. are on the daily agenda. Science is a huge part of our curriculum. Science in the
Going to school and getting a great education is important for a successful future in today’s world. Years ago, many children did not go to school and many young adults opted to work instead of attending college. In today’s society, gaining a high level of education is almost always mandatory for many jobs. There are many changes being done to the education system along with new items and ways of teaching in the classroom. There is a growing amount of changes in the classroom such as technology, teaching time, teaching styles, and freedom of space.
Science is a method of understanding how things work. It is important because we need science in order for things to work and to develop new technology that is used in every day life. It is personally important to me because I really want to become a vet when I get older and I would need to do really well in science. Even though science isn’t exactly my best subject, I am willing to put in the hard work and determination so I may eventually get better and learn what I need to know.
“Education is probably the most important issue that affects the ability to benefit from technology.
In the first chapter of STEM Lesson Essentials, it asks you to write down your own definition of STEM education. Here’s what I wrote: STEM education is interdisciplinary lessons engaging the students in real life scenarios through hands on activities and explorations. Although I had not yet been properly given the direct definition till further in the chapter on page four. I was surprised to find that I was not that far off from what was given as the “real” definition. It states that some of us may have even been a STEM teacher at some point in their teaching career with out even knowing it. Looking back on my teaching, I believe this to be true for most of us at some point.
In closing, science education is like an invisible force that pushes everything forward. It is not always noticed, but the results of teaching science in schools could be world-changing. Science has helped in so many different industries such as the medicine field where it has been helping throughout the ages to save lives. In addition, if earth science is taught, everyone will live in a world with cleaner air, because more people will be educated to make the right decisions and help this planet. With that it is clear that teaching science education in classes is extremely important for everyone’s future.
