Supply Chain Management (SCM) plays one of the most primitive roles in determining the successful running of a business, especially the one that deals with food sector. Having an efficient and effective supply chain is a prerequisite to maintain the quality of product, as well as the process when we talk about food industry. Reverse Logistics, being an integral part of SCM, is usually neglected, specifically in the Indian industry given a few important constraints. The 5 major attributes of Reverse Logistics (Recall, Return, Recycle, Review and Repair) are necessary considerations for effective Business Operations.
The research study we conducted has shown us that majority (around 80%) of the manufacturers and certain third party logistical

Reverse Logistics (RL), on the contrary, is the flow of products, services & information in the opposite direction from the consumption end to the origin. In this concept, the explanation of the means and ends is reversed, with the consumer or distributor being the origin and the manufacturer being the end. Reverse logistical actions, though started taking place since the 1860s, its definition was first given by James R. Stock of the Council of Logistics Management in …show more content…
Returns are majorly done because ‘fresh’ products are in demand than the older stock. To avoid such unnecessary returns, the firm should match supply and demand effectively beforehand.
• Recycle
Recycling is a resource recovery option for a part or the whole components of the product. These recovered resources may or may not be used by the original manufactures. The unused resources are sent to other industries as input resources. The concept of “Reverse Logistics Network Modelling” is used for an effective recycling process.
There are two basic stages in the recycle process:
i. Collection ii. Re-processing
Environmental concern, cost reduction and waste disposal legislation are the underlying motivation for recycling of products. In the case of food products, the packets can be recycled if it is made of plastics. In case of beverages, the bottles are returned to the parent manufacturer, where the recycling process takes place, to be refilled with the next batch of the
A supply chain is a system through which organizations deliver their products and services to their customers. The network begins with the basic ingredients to start the chain of supply, which are the suppliers that supply raw materials, ingredients, and so on. From there, it will transfer the supplies to the manufacturer who builds, assembles, converts, or furnishes a product. The chain now needs to get the product to the consumer by transporting the finished product from the manufacturer through a warehouse or distribution center. An example is that Wal-Mart has a nearby distribution center where products are delivered there and then split up to be delivered to a retail Wal-Mart. “Wal-Mart will take responsibility for breaking down larger loads and delivering the product to other Wal-Mart stores” (Ehring 1).

Reverse supply chain refers to the movement of goods from customer to vendor. This is the reverse of the traditional supply chain movement of goods from vendor to customer. Reverse logistics is the process of planning, implementing and controlling the efficient and effective inbound flow and storage of secondary goods and related information for the purpose of recovering value or proper disposal. There are various types of reverse supply chains, and they arise at different stages of the product cycle; however, most return supply chains are organized to carry out five key processes:
People need to think about the objects that they throw away, those items can affect the animals around the world. For example, when people throw away the plastic rings that go around pop cans, can kill animals by being stuck around their little necks. So, before people throw those plastic rings out, they need to make sure that they cut a slit into each ring so in case an animal does get stuck in one of them, then they can get out safely. Recycling does not just have to be about plastic, but when the plastic is recycled, Americans can use it for many different things. For example, the plastic can make park benches, plastic crates, and wire tubing. Many people do not understand where all of the recycled objects go, but the objects do not go anywhere they are just recycled to make other things, recycled objects also help reduce the price of the objects that they make. The best part about recycling is the fact that people can recycle almost anything and turn it into something completely different. For example, Keen’s Harvest makes bags, wallets, and totes from recycled airbags that come from automobiles. Another example is Looptworks uses cotton jersey, nylon, vinyl, and recycled polyester to make their upcycled leather iPad cases. Skateback is another company that uses recycled material to make iPhone backs; they use the discarded post-industrial skateboard materials. Vinylux
Recycling can have a large impact on the way we produce our everyday products. Recycling helps the environment by conserving the natural resources we use everyday. Since the
This sector or reverse logistics has proven to be quite difficult for companies to adapt to. Although it is the most obvious way to go green, it can be challenging for certain companies. This can be due to forecasting field failures, and certain companies’ ongoing need for certain parts. Some companies hand...
Logistics has been defined as that type of business planning that focuses its operations in material management, flow of information and capital and efficient service delivery in an organization. Some of the important components involved in the process of logistics include complex information, control systems, and effective communication channels that will make the whole process simple and efficient. A warehouse is also an important part of the logistics system as it plays several roles that are important to both the traders and the target market. Thus, this paper will define a warehouse, its roles in the logistics system, the different types of warehouses and why businesses may prefer one warehouse to the other. Finally, the

The major challenges for the industry is to become more energy efficient to reduce energy consumptions and emissions to air. Recycling is effective way to improve environmental performance and reduce production cost. Modern manufacturing methods and recent technological advancements have led to the improvement in environmental performance of the industry.
Some manufacturing companies, commercial enterprises began to use modern logistics management concepts, methods and techniques, the implementation of logistics process reengineering and outsourcing. Traditional transportation, warehousing, freight forwarding companies implement functional integration and extension services to accelerate the transition to a modern logistics enterprise. There are over 600 million tons of recyclables being handled by almost 2 million people worldwide every year (BIR). This is the result of the ever growing concern of waste and CO2 emissions across the globe. Recycling is a controversial topic because many were taught that recycling is the most influential way to reduce environmental impact. However, according to the New York times, “Recycling may be the most wasteful activity in modern America: a waste of time and money, a waste of human and natural resources.” (Tierney). Recycling may actually be a way for people to feel justified about overusing products. This can result in a rapid increase in consumerism . In some cases, recycling can be effective, but studies have shown that more fossil fuels are burned up to recycle plastic than to produce new plastic products. This is also the case for many other materials. There are millions of dollars in net loss each year that are spent on salary for workers and gasoline used to fuel transportation of recyclables. Many people everywhere recycle because they were told it was good, but they were not informed of the negative aspects (Tierney). Although recycling some materials are beneficial by saving energy and waste, other materials, such as plastic and paper, cost more in consumed energy to recycle; Therefore reducing and reusing is a more practical and cost efficient way to reduce waste and energy.

Recycling is such a fantastic way for us to reuse the waste we once throw. Yet, not everything is easy to be done in this world. There many difficulties that face recycling process economically and socially. Usually In order to recycle, waste paper needs to be sorted and treated from any Impurities. Which means that companies will loss finance because there must be someone or something that could sort or treat these papers. Another problem is that to start recycling, companies needs a lot of good recyclable supply to pick it up; after all, they need good economic benefits (Problems with Recycling, 2014). According to the Waste and Resources Action Program, there are some barriers p...
Recycling is one of the easiest and best ways for people to help the environment. More people need to recognize and take recycling seriously, because it can prolong the survival of humanity on Earth. The basic concept of recycling is the process of converting used materials or waste into reusable material for production. It is essential that people start realizing that recycling is necessary now, and going to be more necessary in the future because of the new, higher quality lifestyles people are living. With more people becoming wealthier, more products are being consumed, and as a result more waste is being produced. In addition, the world's increasing population also increases the number of products that could become potential waste (“Recycling is Important”). Both of these factors of a higher quality of life and increased population are continuing to contribute to the increasing amounts of waste being produced on Earth. This is important to understand because these factors are going to happen inevitably, which is why recycling will be an absolute necessity in the future. There are many benefits that come from recycling. It can range from helping the environment to preserving the planet's scarce resources. An interesting statistic about how recycling is beneficial to the environment is that “Recycled aluminum cans results in energy savings of 92%; recycled mixed plastic, 87%; recycled steel cans, 63%; recycled newspaper, 45%; and recycled glass, 34%” (Carper). If these five different materials can make this kind of positive impact on energy savings, then consider all the other kinds of recyclable materials that could have a better impact on the environment. If anything that is considered to be recyclable is recycled, then many ...
Recycling is of great importance, and its importance is economic and environmental. It preserves natural resources, reduces depletion, reduces the amount of waste, reduces its growth, conserves the environment, cleanses it of some harmful waste, reduces unemployment and creates opportunities.
