As a student, I know that we are the future for society to thrive on. We are told again and again that the knowledge we gain will further ourselves into the world, and for our college, there are rights and responsibilities us students must follow to maintain a working community for other students, teachers, and staff. To ensure a healthy and happy college experience, we must earn the same equal rights as every other student through academic opportunities, learning, and financial aid. Students are supposed to be responsible for choices made in college as it is beneficial for our future; however, most importantly we need to be responsible for maintaining academic honesty, meet staff expectations, and taking control of our future.
The ninth amendment states, “citizens are still granted rights that are not included in the constitution along with an equal opportunity to fulfill several other actions that the heart desires.” Equal opportunity is founded in the bill of rights, so, every student needs to take advantage of it by believing in what we know is true, along with making sure we

As a community, we must maintain academic honesty for the college, our professors, and other students. Academic honesty is when a student puts a value to their works by using their own knowledge; without cheating or plagiarizing another person 's work. Cheating or plagiarizing another person 's work will not further your education. The consequences, after you will be caught,are not worth it as you could have used that time to actually work on an assignment. Graduating with a false- accredited high school or college diploma will not benefit our society for the future. The multiple choices students have today in college have made the university a party environment, resulting in complacent students. Mark Edmundson raises important questions and makes valid points in this essay that are worth thinking about. The right and privilege to higher education in today’s society teeters like the scales of justice. In reading Andrew Delbanco’s, “College: What It Was, Is, and Should Be, it is apparent that Delbanco believes that the main role of college is to accommodate that needs of all students in providing opportunities to discover individual passions and dreams while furthering and enhancing the economic strength of the nation. Additionally, Delbanco also views college as more than just a time to prepare for a job in the future but a way in which students and young adults can prepare for their future lives so they are meaningful and purposeful. Even more important is the role that college will play in helping and guiding students to learn how to accept alternate point of views and the importance that differing views play in a democratic society. With that said, the issue is not the importance that higher education plays in society, but exactly who should pay the costly price tag of higher education is a raging debate in all social classes, cultures, socioeconomic groups and races.

The book addresses what college is for, describes the origins of colleges, and explains who goes and who does not. Colleges started with a religious aspect and have formed the foundation of contemporary, liberal education. Colleges are also meant to help an individual understand what inspires them and understand the social implications of ideas. Attending college is not only a chance for students to further their education, but it also allows them to experience the lessons life has to offer. One of the hardest lessons to learn is how unfair life can be. Students who work diligently to achieve academic success in the classroom may quickly realize their academic efforts do not “pay off” as much as the student-athlete who possesses the ability to kick a football fifty yards. There is an evident failure in the educational system when the student-athlete’s performance and how they contribute to a winning season, is more valuable to the university, than the academic student who strives to graduate with honors. Students who focus their efforts on an academic based education are not rewarded with the same benefits, resources, and perks as their student-athlete counterparts.
Coming to college as an adult, we have many expectations and preconceptions of what college will or will not be. The expectations we have can influence our college life for the better or the worse. My experience since starting college has been an interesting one. People have misconceptions about college because they do not know what to expect. After doing some research, I have concluded that there are three major factors that are often misunderstood about college life. The first is the financial aspect of college. Second, is the relationship between the professors and students. Third is time management. These three factors play an important role in why people are afraid to go down the path to college.
It seems as though the majority of college students these days aren’t looking to further their education because it’s what they really want, they do it to please their parents, to be accepted by society, or because there’s nothing else for them to do (Bird, 372). These expectations have led to students being unhappy and stressed, and have pushed them into a school or a job that they don’t particularly care for.
The American Education system needs to check their purpose and refocus students back on the reason for furthering their education.
