Psychology and Sociology go together as they are both studying people’s emotions, relationships, and behaviors in a better and more specific way. Both branch down under social sciences and depend on each other. Psychology is studying one or a group’s mind and how it works towards situations. Sociology is the social environment one has been kept in. In my psychology course, we have studied how humans think and different disorders human being go through from different situations. I have participated in several activities in school too. I have been a part of the heritage club. Basically, we work to help those poor or people in need by giving them food or anything in the bound of the Bahraini heritage. For instance, we encourage keeping the Bahraini heritage out standing by giving out the famous Bahraini sweet to those disabled children in schools. Also, I have been a part of the Injaz program. INJAZ Bahrain is an organization that helps you own a business and then challenge other business. I have also been a part of the school’s yearbook club. We have worked together as a team to make up the Class of 2016 yearbook by taking pictures or making …show more content…
Mainly, I wanted to study journalism. Journalism isn’t available in the University of Kent, Canterbury. Yet, sociology can get me into journalism later on as it would give me the opportunity to understand people and their behaviors. I wanted to be accepted in Canterbury and not Medway considering having a better environment and the right mind to get this degree. Getting a degree in sociology won’t change a lot but would let me dig into the heart of
People use to think sociology is something theoretically and cannot put it into practice. The blog of “ Doing Sociology” by peter Kaufman show we what a sociology majors can pursue, and how to apply sociology into our daily lives. In fact, there are a lot of departments and career resources that need sociologist. To make sociology less abstract, we need to be able to apply sociology into our everyday lives. Kaufman’s model of “doing sociology” has four point that will help we adopt sociology to our lives. The four points are:
There are many different career fields you can go into as a social worker: from mental health, drug and alcohol abuse all the way to child welfare. Child welfare is my primary target when I become a social worker. I feel that I will have the biggest impact if I help the kids out that will be creating our future world. If I can help the kids of the next generation then maybe my influence will help more than just those few kids I see every day. Plus ever since I can remember people told me I need to be doing a job that helps children. I want to be able to make a difference in the community, and if I can help the kids, then I know I’ll be helping the community. Being a student at Wilmington College will help me fulfill these values and skills, but the thing that
Psychology is a social science that aims to study the mind and the behaviors of humans. It aims to understand what drives humans to act the way they do. It differs from sociology and anthropology in that it takes accounts the individual rather than society as a whole.
According to Dalton Conlay, sociology is the “study of human society and the social structure and dynamics or lies in the inner social structure of history and biography.” Conlay goes on to explain that a sociologist achieves success only
Sociology has been around since the Age of Enlightenment, as both the French and other European men desired to learn more about society. This widespread desire to evaluate the science of society led to sociology, which is now officially defined as the study of the development, structure and functioning of human society. Sociologists can study virtually any topic as long as it has a relation to a society, which means sociology can be argued to include virtually every subject or thing one can think of.
After reviewing the article titles given for this first assignment, I believe they indicate that Sociology, generally speaking, is not only a study of diversity or commonality in traits among people; it is also a science about factors in a person’s life and how these factors culminate responses. Interestingly enough, its topics of concern seem to be directly determined by current and common events of the world. Through the invention and expansion of new ideas, popular trends and fashions through time, Sociology adapts to responsibly to service the very subjects of interest it studies; for, even the slightest change of a person’s daily experience can have an insurmountable impact on attitude, personal growth, family dynamics and basic group behavior.
What makes sociology different? Sociology is the study of the human society from outside the person, while psychology is what happens to the person within them. Sociology affects your life in many ways that many outside factors contribute to . The greatest sociological factors are often outside of our control, but have large impacts on the way we behave, view society and ourselves. Whether it is the frustration with our teammates, controversy due to what other people believe in and what their religion is. The constraints of our lives also come into factor because we aren’t all equal. All of these societal factors impact our everyday lives.
Indeed, a major is required, but it will also influence your education and the perspective from which you will view the world around you. Also, a college degree as a Sociologist or a Social Worker will require me to become engaged in the lives of people, many who are socially, mentally and economically disadvantaged.
I think everyone should ask themselves what is sociology? I believe that sociology is the scientific study of social behavior or society, including its origins, development, organization, networks, and institutions. This is a huge topic to cover. Sociology explains the way people act and think, based on
I never noticed how much psychology could be incorporated into everyday life. But really, any decision or action you take is related to it. I have personally been extremely interested in social psychology: why people do things because of social norms, what people do in order to look socially acceptable, etc. Others topics I also find interesting are sensation and perception; how past experiences can influence how you perceive the things around you, states of consciousness; how things that have happened in your day can be transferred into a mash of events in your dreams, motivation and emotion; what makes a person do something or what makes a person start or stop procrastination, and lastly: personality; what characteristics and traits stand out the most in a person, what makes a person who they are.
Sociology and psychology is the study of the mind and the environment around us which makes us who we are. These theories assist us to understand behaviour from individual and societal levels.
What I found specifically interesting is that our culture has a huge influence on how we think, respond and how we react to all situations. Sociology has helped me understand myself better, as well as those around me. It has prompted me to stop and think before reacting or responding to certain individuals within my family and those outside of my family, I have taken the time to ponder why people behave the way they do. Sociology has taught me the ability to understand the meanings of labels, discrimination, and oppression. I have also learned that sociology is really a study of civilization, inequalities and the consequences of people’s behavior. Also that our personal troubles affect
