O Canada the country that is strong, proud, and most importantly free. Some of Canada’s most defining moments would be vimy ridge, the british north america act, and the charter of rights and freedom. These moments have shown other countries that we are a strong country and this is amazing country to live in. Canada could not have been the country it is today without these moments. These are just some of canada’s greatest successes which shows how much pride we have for our country. Some of the rights for our people include freedom to express,equality rights, and freedom of religion is just some of the rights canadian citizens have in canada. At the time this was a significant change because most people's rights were passed by provincial and federal governments which meat who ever had the popular vote would earn that right. Pierre Trudeau passed the bill in 1982 to protect all canadian citizens rights and freedoms in this country. The bill helped stop discrimination against certain peoples religion,colour, or beliefs this also helped any newcomers into canada or people that already lived here. At the time this was a major bill to be passed cause no other country had passed such bill to help protect people's rights. The charter showed canadians that human rights could be protected and expanded more on. This has showed canadians all around the country that the government is not against us it wants to stand by our strong and free country that we have all created. Without the charter Canada would have listened to the most popular vote even if it was discriminating towards a certain group in Canada.
