Optimism is a word that I try to remember and live by everyday of my life. To me, optimism means to always look at the good side of something. Whether you are faced with a huge challenge, or suffered a big loose, staying optimistic makes everything just a little bit better. If you always choose to see the bad in life, you would just continue to be sad and down about everything. In my eyes, that is just not a good way to go about life. Staying optimistic helps me see that bright side of things, helps me reach goals in life, and keeps me from going down a bad path. Seeing the bright side of things is something that makes just about everything a better situation. No matter what kind of situation I am in, I try to see the positive. To me, I do not see any good in looking at the negative. Dwelling on the bad in life will just continue to keep you in a bad mood and will not let you succeed at what you are doing. One bad day can sometimes keep you down for weeks and …show more content…
However, these can easily be avoided by staying focused and remembering one word, optimism. When I feel like I am having a terrible day, there will always be that feeling of just not caring anymore. Whether it has to do with schoolwork or sports, this is not a good thing. If I just remain optimistic about the situation this would be no problem at all. In my opinion this is one of the hardest situations to stay optimistic. When I come home after a bad day at school, and just feel lousy, I have to use everything in my power to stop myself from sitting down and not caring about my school work anymore. When I look at the big picture, I realize that it makes no sense to let one day possible ruin years of hard work. This is also the case with sports I play like football and baseball. If I have a bad practice and just feel like throwing in the towel and quitting, I need to remain optimistic to stay on the right
Optimism was an attractive to many because it answered a profound philosophical question: if God is omnipotent and benevolent, then why is there so much evil in the world? Optimism provides an easy way out: God has made everything for the best, and even though one might experience personal misfortune, God (via your misfortune) is still helping the greater good.
In life, it is important to be optimistic, and see the glass as half full. Being optimistic means to look at things in a positive way. And it is important to stay optimistic in life. Being an optimist can also be thought of as having lots of hope for the future. Sometimes it is hard to be optimistic when other things in your life are going wrong. But, you have to look past the negatives, and try to see the best in things and keep hope. Penelope and I are both similar because we both stay optimistic in life.
In the poem “Invictus” by William Ernest optimism can be found in the quote “my head is bloody, But unbowed” (2). This show how no matter what negative thing happens in your life, no matter how bad it is you can always make something positive out of it. Optimism can also be seen in the quote “my unconquerable soul” (1). This shows how confident and positive he is about and is showing he puts the negative emotions to ret and just the positive rise and defeats the negative emotions. He only lets the positive in and lets the negative stay outside so nothing can conquer his soul. He thanking the Gods for his "unconquerable soul...
Optimism is a hopefulness for the future. People who are optimistic generally expect the best from situations. Overall, optimists tend to be healthier than pessimists. Optimism can aid in maintenance of psychological health when faced with physical health problems. This claim is evident with Bob Salvini in the Young at Heart film. Bob, having looked death in the eyes multiple times, managed to pull through when the odds were against him. Bobs strong will and optimism for live and his situation helped him live happily for as long as he did, before he unfortunately died in May of 2006. While still in the ICU, Bob stayed positive and was determined to make the show in less than three weeks. Sadly, Bob passed away the night before the show (Walker & George,
Many people are asked the question if they are optimist and they will usually respond yes, no, or something else ,but what actually is an optimist, and is a good thing? Today optimist is defined as someone who always sees the bright side of any situation — a trait that can be either encouraging or annoying, depending on your frame of mind. In the enlightenment an optimist was defined as someone who believed that everything happened for the greater good, because of God. Many great writers of the enlightenment period, such as Voltaire, created literary works to criticize the overly optimistic society in which they lived in. One notable literary piece that specifically addressed optimism during the enlightenment was the book Candide.
When we seeing this world in a positive attitude, every simple detail can be pure and beautiful. It can help us maintain our purity and discover more beauties of nature. In this way, we are able to enjoy and experience the amazement of every tiny thing happens around us. However, only being positive may lead people into a wrong position that think everything around us is good and pure. Oppositely, when we using the negative attitude to face everything, even a simple action, like luna moth eggs hatch, can be horrible. Although it may not be as good as it is in positive way, it actually leads us to understand the true meaning of everything that happened. Whereas, only being negative will make us miss many beautiful moments. There is nothing absolute pure or absolute horrible. Almost everything happens around us is two-sided which means seeing in one way can only understand parts of it. If we want to fully know something, standing in two different ways will help a
Optimism is the action of seeking the hope that lies in every situation. The hope is like gold or a valuable gem. It may be resting on the surface, or it may be buried deep down. Either way, if one does not actively seek it, it may never be found. Helen Keller wrote, “Most people measure their happiness in terms of physical pleasure and material possession….If happiness is to be so measured, I who cannot hear or see have every reason to sit in a corner with folded hands and weep….Only by contact with evil could I have learned to feel by contrast the beauty of truth and love and goodness.” However, there is a such thing as too much optimism. Helen Keller also explained this when she wrote, “It is a mistake always to contemplate the good and ignore the evil because by making people neglectful it lets in disaster….This is false optimism. A man must understand evil and be acquainted with sorrow before he can write himself an optimist and expect others to believe that he has reason for the faith that is in him.” A German theologian named Jurgen Moltmann backs this up by stating, “Genuine hope is not blind optimism. It is hope with open eyes, which sees the suffering and yet believes in the
We all have special goals and things we aspire to be. Often times, things do not occur exactly how we want them to. Those types of situations can leave us feeling defeated, especially when they go in direct opposition of what we desire. However, thinking pessimistically will only make that situation worse. It is essential to think of that hint of positivity in what you think may be completely negative. Doing this can make the seemingly atrocious events in life a lot more tolerable. You can drastically modify those unfavorable outcomes, even when it feels as if the world is crashing down on you, by taking a positive view of its effects and realizing that everything is meant to happen for a specific reason.
Firstly, people who show an optimism bias feel more happy and satisfied with their life. These people are also more in control of and engaged in their life’s goal, they will not just think about happy thoughts and wait for life to pass, instead they will be engaged in a meaningful life and do whatever it takes to accomplish their goals. They are also less likely to give up on a difficult situation and will cope with it. These are people who will not wait for the rain to pass but who learn to dance in the rain in order to fulfil their life’s goal. Unrealistic optimism shows an increased well-being and happiness. With this increased well-being, unrealistically optimistic people are also more able to pick themselves up after a major life
Overall, we may not always see the good in our hardships. With time and thought, we begin to see that not everything is entirely bad in situation and we can get some good out of it. Obstacles and disadvantages are NEEDED in order for us to grow and learn that not everything is bad. There is always a light at the end of the
How to be Positive The Author Tony Fahkry once said, "Never give up; great things take time, beautiful things happen when you distance yourself from negativity. " Being positive is thinking in a good way; thinking that good results will happen and optimism in life. In fact, many people do not know that they are thinking negatively, they thought that everyone around them thinking negatively like them.
As creatures of habits, people can make routines or rituals to keep their optimism up. Here are some ways to stay optimistic: Change your thoughts meaning no pity parties for yourself, no negativity, no gossip because it could be about you next time. Improve your mood meaning listen to upbeat music, have a great laugh, or “engage in what Orloff calls a "three-minute positive energy meditation." Optimism is merely the state of mind that an individual will just lean towards “expecting the best possible outcome or dwell on the most hopeful aspects of a situation.” (free dictionary.com) The promotion of positive thinking is everywhere and it has grown over the last few decades. “Is your glass half full or half empty” is a very common saying that many have used to describe others or oneself as an optimist or a
The approach is usually lengthy in order to accommodate the attitude of hope for forthcoming conditions evolving as optimal. The vaster concept of optimism is the understanding that all of nature, past, present, and future, functions by the law of optimization. The word optimism originated from the Latin word optimum, which means "best". Optimism is a deposition or tendency to view the more favorable side of events or conditions and to await the more favorable outcomes. Optimism is the belief that good eventually overrules the evil in the world. Also, the belief that goodness defuses reality. Optimism is the attitude that the existing world is the best of all possible worlds. Optimists often have the impulse of making lemonade out of lemons, and then to see the glass as half-full rather than half-empty. Most optimist persistently attributes benevolent motives to others and illustrate situations in the best possible light; others easily just disassociate an internal mood from external situations, no matter how tenacious. A person can be optimistic in devoirs such as expecting his or her relationship with another to be successful. Now on to pessimism, pessimism is the impulse to stress the negative or unfavorable. The belief of pessimism is that this is the worst of all possible worlds and that
