Menstruation; that regular 4-7 days occurrence in every woman’s life that makes her a woman, from a girl; is often accompanied by a peculiar disgrace associated with it. Even the people with so claimed modern and developed mindsets refuse to talk about it, or embrace it openly. A mark of womanhood, a stepping stone in the life of every woman and a common phenomenon in a woman’s being; menstruation often brings questions with it, that are way too discomforting to be answered or talked about or discussed in public or with friends.
Though the general misconceptions, practises and restrictions that a woman is supposed to follow during menstruation is limiting itself to healthy eating and resting in most of the developed areas now a days, but the practice of ostracising a menstruating woman is also followed in less developed areas or places where people are still blindly following the old customs, whose roots are …show more content…

For example, you might find a woman sleeping on the floor or not leaving her room while she is on her period in one household, while on the other hand, their neighbour might throw a party (yes, a party!) when a daughter in their house steps into womanhood.
The beginning of womanhood denotes that a girl is moving into womanhood. Some of the societies in South India follow special rituals and organise a get together to inform their family and friends of this “auspicious event”. The girl is showered with gifts and advices and is fed nutritious food to strengthen her pelvic bones.
Sometimes these rituals may last up to 7 days! Conventionally, the purpose of these rituals was to make the fact known to everyone that their family has a daughter of marriageable age.
