What is the importance of learning to me? To me the importance of learning is to gain knowledge and experience in my subjects that will further help me in my future. The importance of learning is everything. If you value your learning and think that it’s important then you are for sure to succeed and do well in one way or another. Learning new things helps us to keep up with our ever changing society, and as new things come out and develop, the more things we have that we can learn about. Learning is also essential to help with our self-esteem. Our brains always need to be doing something, and learning helps it to stay active and aware as it has to work. Would I consider myself an active or a passive learner? I would consider myself as an active learner, because I am able to fully concentrate during class and am able to understand what is taught and said in class. Yes, I definitely do. I make sure I turn in my assignments in on time or as soon as possible with them being done in as best quality as I can do. I take pride in my education as one day I know it will take me somewhere and help me achieve my goals in life. How can National Honor Society members be strong leaders in our school? National Society members can be strong leaders in our school in many different ways. Members of the society do so much in the school and community, which also comes back to represent the school and its staff and students. Members are good leaders because they show that having good grades and keeping them will give them so many more opportunities in school now and in the future. Examples of how current members are showing their strong leadership is, how they will go and visit the elderly in nursing homes and bring them joy, doing charity like when they do the fundraiser where students can wear a hat for a certain price then donate the proceeds to
National Honors Society is an extremely prestigious and well-known group that gave me the opportunity to assist the community while working harmoniously with my peers. To get into NHS, there are four pillars one must fulfill, including, scholar, service, leadership, and character. One may not realize it, but these qualities apply all throughout life. In order to be successful, one must achieve some form of each pillar. Being dedicated and committed to learning and improving but also using the knowledge one previously has is to be a scholar. Giving back to one’s community by making improvements or donations or simply just being courteous to one’s neighbor is to give one’s service. Taking the initiative to solve problems and guide others towards
“Leadership, dreams, scholarships, service, pride and character”, the first words that come to mind when I hear “National Honor Society”. Being chosen for National Honor Society is a great honor, as it has proved that from my childhood till now my hard work has paid off. From the beginning of high school, as a freshman to now a junior, I have always pushed myself to do better, but not better than others, better than myself. I had competition with myself and my past grades, as I emboldened myself to do better than each of my past marking period grades. I heartened myself to get stronger grades, because since the day I found out in freshman year that there was National Honor Society I was determined to get in. The day of my sister’s graduation
When I think of NHS, leadership, character, community, and role modeling are all things that come to mind. Being a part of the National Honors Society will help me do just that. I have worked hard for outstanding grades, citizenship, and becoming a leader and role model for other classmates. That is why I believe I deserve a spot in the National Honor Society community.
Leadership a vital aspect in National Honor Society and it is essential in the professional world as well. Taking the initiative to help is others is one way I demonstrate leadership, in addition, to putting others needs before my own. Furthermore, I strive to always be dependable and reliable both in and outside of school. At Lakes International Language Academy, I
Throughout everyday tasks in the classroom, or outside of school, I step up and lead those who need to be led. I constantly find new opportunities to lead others and help the situation any way I can. Every summer the band has a marching band camp for a week straight that we must all attend. Being an experienced band member, I step up and assist all underclassmen and show then where to go and what they need to be doing. Instead of getting frustrated when giving the freshman directions, I am calm and collect and walk them step by step until they understand, something most leaders would not have time or patience for. With many plans to help others and lead within my community, I believe that I have what it takes to be a strong, and powerful leader for the National Honor Society.
The standards for entrance into the National Honor Society are scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Through this paper I will strive to prove that I possess all of these qualities, and moreover, that I am qualified for entrance into an organization as prestigious as the National Honor Society. Over the past four years as a scholar, I believe that I have demonstrated all of these characteristics. That I have the scholarly ability required to be a NHS member is indicated simply by the fact that I was nominated for entrance into the NHS in the first place, though since I get the impression that more than this is required, I will point out that I have consistently made the honor roll every quarter during my years in both High- and Middle-school. Also, my involvement in the school's "Jets TEAMS" (Test of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science) team during my Junior year functions as an indicator of my scholarship. Jets TEAMS is an intense, annual competition in which schools send 8 of their strongest students to compete against other schools in a nationwide contest. During my Junior year I was fortunate enough to be selected as one of the eight students (only 3 of whom were Juniors) who would go to the competition, and through our team's efforts, we were able to come in first in the state of Connecticut, earning recognition not just for ourselves, but for the town of Granby as well. Through my involvement in Jets TEAMS and my solid academic record, I feel that I have demonstrated the scholarship required for entrance into the National Honor Society. It is difficult to narrow things down to a single situation in which I have demonstrated leadership qualities to the extent that is required for entrance into the NHS, but for the purposes of this paper (and the sake of brevity), I will focus on my past involvement in the "People to People: Student Ambassador Program." People to People is a nationally recognized organization which sends groups of American students to foreign countries where they can learn about another culture by experiencing it firsthand. Their itinerary also stresses the development of leadership skills and the importance of teamwork. Through my involvement in this program, aside from learning a lot about a foreign culture (I traveled to Australia for 3 weeks), I also learned a great deal about the responsibilities and obligations that go along with being a leader.
The National Honor Society (NHS) is a student organization that recognizes students who present strong leadership and academic skills, alongside with a passion for service. It is built upon four pillars: Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service. Scholarship means to develop and maintain concrete academic integrity, as well as to have the desire to commit to learning. Leadership is about guiding individuals toward improvement and increasing knowledge. It is not just about giving orders, but also taking part. A person of character has unique and positive characteristics. Service is doing a good deed for someone in need of help, and it is given in a kind and thoughtful manner without expecting anything in return.
Individuals can benefit from having multiple literacies. Literacy in area outside of academia can be repurposed and used in academic settings too. The same is true for academic literacies; academic expertise can prove beneficial in other areas. In order to repurpose literacy, one would apply knowledge by reconstructing past literacies and reapplying it in order to enhance present literacies. One educator, Kevin Roozen, described repurposing literacy as blending together of extracurricular elements and of elements from other literate experiences (Roozen 18). Mary Maragrget Holt, dean of the Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts at the University of Oklahoma, is a prime illustration of this very idea.
‘Oh gosh!’ I thought on the third day of school, I was totally exhausted of homework. Well to most of the people, this a major deja vu, that attended middle school. So from that day and onward I ‘started’ to do all my homework, whether I wanted to do it or not.. There are a couple of important logical explanations why homework is an important part of all ‘middle schoolers’ lives. The concept of homework is that is is supposed to help you have a better understanding of what you learned at school and keep the content (that you learned in school) fresh in your mind. The other important thing about homework is that it directly reflects on your grade; which is important for success in school.
If a teacher does not have good leadership qualities, the class is going to go ransom. A teacher should be able to have an uplifting atmosphere of the classroom, while still maintaining control. Students look to the teacher to guide them through their academic experience. If a teacher is not a good leader, then the students are going to be left blind and confused. Teaching the preschoolers in my academy and being a part of the peer leader program has really shown me what it is like to be a leader. A leader is someone who takes charge in a situation, but still gives enough freedom for others to put their own individuality on things. The National Honor Society would not only teach me new leadership strategies, but help me strengthen the leadership strategies I already
The importance of literacy is how it opens up the world to the reader, or writer. Through literacy, we can shape our thinking on certain topics or create original thought. The vivid detail inside of writing can allow the reader to picture the writing through their own mind without pictures, or any outside help. Malcolm X, who wrote “Literacy Behind Bars”, a literacy narrative about his time in prison, described how the world opened up to him through his readings, and how incredible his life was thereafter through his learning to read and write. Literacy enables you to formulate thought, thus allowing you to formulate opinions about certain social, political, or any other range of topics from an education in literacy.
Lifelong learning is the process of gaining knowledge based on an individual’s interest and developing skills throughout the life to improve their life irrespective of traditional educational schooling activities. This long term process influences an individual’s personal development and improves their thinking and thought process thus recreating themselves in a new experience of the positiveness. These learning’s can be of different types ranging from the home education, cultural learning, personal learning, spiritual learning, learning to keep up to date with technologies and local medical sciences education etc. Learning through experiences in life helps an individual to visualize the purpose of life from a new prospective that inspires them to be self-contended.
History is a series of important past events that connect with something. History is what makes people make better decisions. There are many definitions of history and everyone has their own.
4. “Without application in the real world, the value of knowledge is greatly diminished.” Consider this claim with respect to two areas of knowledge.
The quality of teaching in a classroom makes the biggest learning outcome. Effective teaching leads to the improvement in a student’s achievement. Measuring effective teaching against the progress of a student is a must. It is the belief of all schools that all students must have equalising starting points which means that no matter what background a child comes from they should have the same opportunity for learning.
