My topic for today is about the ‘Harmony within Diversity must be nurtured and cherished’. What is the meaning of the harmony within diversity itself? What is the importance of this thing in our life? Will it make our life better or worst? In my opinion, harmony within diversity means the peaceful that we achieve in variety of things that consist of many aspects such as traditions,languages,races,religions,cultures,food and so on.,Mostly,the countries in this world have their own diversity. The question is, how can we nurtured and cherished the harmony within diversity? Malaysia have achieve the harmony within diversity because of our own Prime Minister,Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak have point out his ideas to unite all the Malaysian by creating a program which is well-known with the Malaysian,’1 Malaysia’ under the slogan ‘Rakyat Didahulukan,Pencapaian Diutamakan’ which means the people will be the first and achievements will be the priority. This can bring us to the closer scope which is Malaysian have achieve the harmony in their own earth. This way could be a model to another country to follow the idea that united the people in their own country. Secondly,we can nurtured and cherished the diversity with our own effort to maintain and keep the tradition that being brought from our great-granparents so the tradition will not miss the passage of time and the new generation will continue them till the last breath of their life. Every individual in society and in a community is unique in their own ways, and their diversity shows up in many ways. Some of these ways include: religion, race, socioeconomic status, lifestyle, and so on. Everyone’s backgrounds are different, and this is what creates diversity in people. Even though everyone might not be the same, only by uniting everyone can we create the big picture. It’s like a puzzle—even though people are different, we can come together to create a big picture that couldn’t be created by puzzle pieces of the same shape. To me, diversity symbolizes the unique backgrounds that we come from. Every individual in their communities and in their society are influenced by their background—and this can come from various reasons. If someone comes from a different socioeconomic background, or lifestyle, their thought processes and their view of life might be much more different than mine. Dental professionals have a commitment to respect diversity and create equity of access to dental care for everyone (GDC, 2014). Diversity describes any dimension that can be used to differentiate an individual from others. It requires understanding that each individual is unique and accepting and respecting these individual differences (QCC,2013). These differences could be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender, age, socio-economic status or other ideologies (QCC, 2013). Understanding the impact that these differences may pose is vital in dealing professionally with people from diverse backgrounds and delivering equal treatment for all. Equality refers to identical treatment in dealings quantitates and values (Braveman, and Gruskin, 2003). Thus, creating equality for all might not mean that there are no disparities between different groups. Equity on the other hand refers to fairness and the equality of outcomes and involves recognizing aspects of a system that may disadvantage a certain group and correcting them (Braveman, and Gruskin, 2003). Therefore, in order to overcome potential pitfalls that may create inequity to access, there is a need to explore the different factors encountered in our diverse society that may create these issues. As an example, patients from different ethnic backgrounds may be faced with barriers accounting for the less frequent use of dental care (CQC. 2010). This group will be used as an example and some of the issues behind this inequity of access will be looked at further.

Amendment I of the United States Constitution states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
