Gender equality and empowering woman’s rights is important across the globe. Promoting gender equality ensures that both men and women will be treated as equals. This allows women to be more involved in the decisions made in their communities and for themselves. Women greatly outnumber men, and do nearly two thirds of the world’s work however, they are paid nearly one tenth of the pay most males receive. A large portion of gender equality deals with empowering women, and making sure opportunities are not limited to one primarily based on sex. Nigeria is a country located in Western Africa where gender equality is a great problem. This country ranks one hundred and eighteen out of one hundred and thirty four on the world’s gender equality index. Many areas in the once British ruled country believe that a woman’s place is inside her kitchen. Alongside this, most laws give women no inheritance rights of their husband’s property once their spouse dies and, most women receive no amends to any sexual harassment experienced in the workplace. Throughout the world, discrimination in all forms has continued to be a constant struggle; whether it’s racial, gender based, religion, beliefs, appearance or anything that makes one person different from another, it’s an everyday occurrence. A major place that discrimination is occurring at is in the workplace. One of the largest problems discrimination issues is believed to be gender. Women, who have the same amount of experience as men are not getting paid at the same rate as men, these women also are equally trained and educated. Gender discrimination in salaries, employing, or promotions persists to be a substantial aspect in the workplace, culminating into a palpably unrelenting wage gap. The media's contribution to the crescendo of body dissatisfaction and corrupted self-image in modern patriarchal societies is causing drastic increases in dangerous practices. More women are steadily at risk of facing violence from family members, the community, and even their husbands. The only way we can hope to combat sexism and objectification is through eliminating our adoption of traditional gender roles, reshaping the patriarchal framework constricting our movements, and striding towards more egalitarian principles, shattering the paradigm. The primary battles may have been won, but now it is our turn to bring ultimate equilibrium. Women’s Rights has been a controversial topic and debated for many centuries. Despite the many strides to enforce a law to protect women in the workforce, little change has occurred. Gender discrimination in the workforce has continued to be debated. Do women get paid less than men? Are employers more likely to pick men over women in a promotion? Gender discrimination is described differences in “working conditions, salaries, hiring, promotion or bonus criteria for women and men”.
