Recommended: Importance of father figures
Every child needs the love of both parents. While a mother naturally becomes the most important person to a newborn, there is no denying the role the father. From assuming co-parenting responsibilities to being a source of strength and protection to his child, a father’s job is never over.
In fact, if someone asked you to describe your father, you would probably agree with all of these phrases – ‘pillar of strength’, ‘someone who held my hand and guided me through the tough times’ and ‘my best friend’.
However, how often have you told your father how much his love and support has meant to you? Probably, like most of us, you have not thanked your father as often as you should have. Thankfully, Father’s Day is around the corner and it offers you the perfect opportunity to do just that.
When is Father’s Day celebrated?
Although a relatively new festival, Father’s Day has quickly become popular across the globe. Different countries celebrate Father’s Day at different times of the year. The United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and most other countries, celebrate the occasion on the third Sunday in June each year. On the other hand, the Australians and New Zealanders celebrate it on the first Sunday in September.
History of Father’s Day
The exact origin of Father’s Day is unclear. Some believe that the first celebration of Father’s Day was held in 1908 in a church in West Virginia (US). In 1915, Harry Meek, president of the Lion’s Club in Chicago, is believed to have held the first Father’s Day celebration.
However, many consider Mrs. Sonora Dodd from Washington, to be the real crusader of Father’s Day. As one would expect, Mrs. Dodd was driven by her love and affection for her father. You see, Mrs. Dodd’s mother died at a you...

Although single parenthood is on the rise in homes today, children still often have a father role in their life. It does not matter who the part is filled by: a father, uncle, older brother, grandfather, etc...; in almost all cases, those relationships between the father (figure) and child have lasting impacts on the youth the rest of their lives. In “I Wanted to Share My Father’s World,” Jimmy Carter tells the audience no matter the situation with a father, hold onto every moment.
In our culture the father has the most say in who we marry, how we are disciplined, and the way we are raised. In the
The father’s role in a child’s development has traditionally been underestimated. According to researchers Ross Parke and Kevin MacDonald and, authors of the article “Parent-Child Physical Play,” which appeared in the journal Sex Roles, fathers play an integral role in the emotional and social development of children. Father-child interaction tends to be more intense, and through their shared activities children learn how to express and control their emotions with their fathers. By working together, mothers and fathers help their children develop their skills across the spectrum.
Men and women have always contrasted in the way they communicate, and when it comes to dads, there is even more of an enigma. Thankfully Deborah Tannen a Georgetown linguistics professor tackled the roots of why the difference occurs. In the article “Why Dad’s Don’t Talk” Tannen states women are the chief communicators in a household: therefore dads are not comfortable having conversations of strong emotions. This lack of comfort is exacerbated by the fact that most men believe they should not show weak emotions. The conversational styles of men, which are brought to light by Tannen are invoked in the film Men of Honor.
In all possible words that I may choose to describe the relationship with my father, the one word that accurately expresses the emotion that has accrued throughout the years would be "admirable." The Oxford English Dictionary defines this word as "arousing or deserving respect and approval." As a father he taught me the importance of attaining an exceptional education. As a man he advocated the urgency of harboring honor and discipline. Encompassing the authoritative parenting style, I have always known my father to encourage success but welcome failure. That is, so long as an honest effort was made. Personally, I credit his parenting style in part due to his military background. Or maybe it was due in part of the lack of a father-figure in his childhood. Whatever the reasoning, I am proud and grateful for having him in my life not only as a father, bu...
For me a father’s role to me is a little more important to a child, having a father teaches the girl that she deserves love and respect, protection, attention, strong self-esteem etc. so they know what to expect from their future relationships. The boy needs a father figure because it teaches him right from wrong, how to be a man, how to provide for his family, how to respect a woman etc. In this generation now, absent fathers is the most abused social problem. When a father is alive and he neglects to care or acknowledge you, is what is being abused. Mothers and fathers parent different, mothers are affectionate, emotional, and enforce safety of their children. Fathers are more of the disciplinarians, they enforce success, and a father figure is more
In present time dads share with mothers the same level of emotional response to new-born babies and are just as sensitive and affectionate when looking after their babies (Secunda, 1992). Today more than half of all children are raised by single mothers and twenty eight percent of children are raised in single parent homes. Fathers are now the main care givers for children when mothers are working. In thirty percent of dual earner families, it is now the father more than any other individual, who cares for children when the mother is at work. If it proves true that daughters search for romantic partners like t...

My father was always there for me, whether I wanted him to be or not. Most of the time, as an adolescent trying to claim my independence, I saw this as a problem. Looking back I now realize it was a problem every child needs, having a loving father. As hard as I tried to fight it, my dad instilled in me the good values and work ethic to be an honest and responsible member of society. He taught me how to be a good husband. He taught me how to be a good father. He taught me how to be a man. It has been 18 years since my father’s death, and I am still learning from the memories I have of him.
A father is someone who protects, loves, supports and raises his children, whether they are biologically related or not. Every single person living on the Earth has a biological father. These biological fathers are supposed to take the responsibility of being a father because they did help bring a child into this world. One of the main responsibilities of a father is providing the child with the necessities of life, which include food, shelter, and clothes. Not only is a father responsible for the physical aspect but the emotional aspect as well. Children need to feel loved, cared for, and emotional support from their parents. A child needs to be reassured, so a father must show his affection, both physically and emotionally. A father needs to be involved in his children’s life. He needs to be a problem solver, playmate, provider, preparer, and he has to have principles. A father has to pr...
Although the expectant father’s role is not as clear and defined as the expectant mother’s, fathers still play a large part in all aspects of the pregnancy and birth. In earlier times, the father’s role was limited and overlooked, but this has changed drastically. Today, they are encouraged, and often expected to attend all doctor’s visits, take birthing classes, and even serve as a labor coaches during delivery.
There are times when you don’t know what to do or times when you might feel like you have no help in this world, but there is always that one person who never fails to give you the best advice in life, and that is your father. I have so much respect for any father out there that works hard, and always supports his family no matter what his imperfections might be. My father has got to be the best one in my opinion. He has been the biggest inspiration in my life because he taught me so much stuff in this life that I can’t find a way to pay him. He has been a very humble person and has never seen himself better than anyone else because he believes he is equal to any other father. In my opinion he is the best even though he says he isn’t. My father had imperfections just like any other human being in this world, yet he still taught me how to be a great person in this world by teaching me good morals. “Never Give Up, and believe in God and you will accomplish what you want in life” are words my father always tells me to remember.
By a definition found on the internet a father is a man who despite not giving birth to you still loves his child just as much as the mother does. Fathers are sometimes seem as more understanding and laid back and seem to have easier resolutions to their child’s problems. They typically tell the child everything will be okay and to tough it out and send the child on to continue what they were doing. However, sometimes he can be hotheaded and punish you faster than mom. Sometimes men are joked about as being big children, which can sometimes amount to a better relationship between the father and child. A lot of children go to dad for the fun stuff like money or going to a friends house because he will give into their begging and pleading easier than their mother
My dad is a hero to me because he shows me strength he explains the bad choices he has made in his life so that I can make the good choices. If it wasn’t for my mom and Jesus, my dad wouldn’t be who he is today. My dad is a man of honor to My Lord and Savior. He shows me that if I ever need help with a decision, I need to either go to him or ask God for help. When my dad started working here in Greeley, he, my mom, and I all had to make a decision to move up here. My mom and I didn’t get to see my dad a lot in Trinidad, so that’s when my mom said we were going to move up here to be him.
