“What keeps me going is goals... it’s a lack of faith that makes people afraid of meeting challenges, and I believed in myself”(Ali). Muhammad Ali proves an excellent point about having faith and believing in yourself. To me, those are not the only things important to accomplishing goals in your life. Hope, strength, and endurance are also crucial for moving forward in life.
Mental strength is just as important as physical strength. As a matter of fact “strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will” (Gandhi). Considering this, it takes an intelligent person to know when it is time to let go of the past and to learn from their mistakes. Lingering in the past will not get you any further in life. Excuses are only intellectualizations that make a person feel better about themselves for not doing something that they need to get done (Fern). The only way to move on is if you have a determined mind. It takes strong willpower to tell yourself that something is wrong, and that it needs change. Indulging the plot into the political and social situation of Afghanistan at the time, Hosseini profoundly incorporates a strikingly realistic theme into the novel and expands the outreach of his ideas to the extent that they can be applied to the present-day state of affairs. In A Thousand Splendid Suns, the lives of the women, men, and children presented are derived and driven by the customs and traditions that root from the country’s political and cultural backdrop. Centering the many twists of the story on the political and cultural influences in Afghanistan, Hosseini develops the novel in close parallel to reality and presents a story that motivates to endure and always be optimistic. The influence of the political and cultural backdrop on the novel signifies the harsh reality of life in developing nations that persists even today and presents the hardships that life poses, along with the inequality that accompanies it.
Encouragement plays a significant role in my success. Without encouragement, the achievement won't come true. Juliet Ferking, the author of "A Drive to Achieve the Extraordinary" from This I Believe: Life Lessons, tells her story about how she succeeds at things that normal people don't. No matter what people say, she achieved big things in her life. Her only encouragement are those who actually supported her (Ferking). My connection to Ferking's essay is that without the encouragement that my family and friends are giving me, I wouldn't have the motivation to pursue my degree to have a good career. Even if other people ridicule my choice of degree, I won't succumb to their words.

In order to obtain any type of success in life, one must have a purpose. Without purpose, there is no basis for success. Faith gives life a purpose. So, by having faith, one already has success. Having faith doesn't necessarily always mean belonging to a religion. It could also be as simple as believing in what you're doing and trusting what you believe. The second most vital characteristic is patience. Patience is a key to success, as success doesn’t occur overnight. John Wooden often says, “There is no progress without change, but not all change

There can be no success without goals or targets. This is because success is relative to a set target and whether we have achieved it, or at least making steady progress towards attaining it. For you to succeed, set a goal, a measurable target that represents what you envision: that is what you want or where you see yourself in future. A goal should be measurable so as to enable you to monitor your progress and help you know whether you are on track or you have gone off.
