The period taken to complete this primary education differs from state to state, for instance in countries like Canada and the United States, elementary education goes for a period of six to seven years once children have begun schooling. In spite of the fact that this education is compulsory, parents can offer it at home. The benefits of this education cannot be underestimated and all efforts are directed at ensuring that this education gets universally recognized. Dr. Ray’s nationwide research indicates that more than 90% percent of the parents do not hold valid, government approved teaching certificates (2009). Whereas, all teachers, both public and private, have those certificates, and are taught, trained and certified to teach each certain aged students (“Home Schooling” 2011). Since the quality of education neither monitored nor regulated by the government, it is doubtful to trust the quality of education that parents provide to their children (“Home Schooling”, 2011). Teachers and administrators firmly control the quality of education they provide to students. They are concerned not only with the academics, but also with the engagement of the students in extracurricular activities at the school. Therefore classroom education is able to provide socialization, which is an important aspect of youth
If I had to chose the most important moment of my literacy development I would easily say it was my sophomore year of high school. I was in Honors World Literature class taught by high school teacher Amy Shaw. The second semester of the year we spent reading and discussing The Iliad. The way Mrs.Shaw taught this book and made us think about it combined with my love of Greek mythology gave me an immediate interest in this unit. However the many epics and epithets took away most of my enthusiasm. Later in the semester, we were each assigned a chapter, or “books” as they were called, to teach to the class. Our teachings had to include a summary of the events of the chapter as well as a list of literary devices used in the literature. So I summarized and annotated my chapter, and I found that I was looking forward to presenting in front of my class, which has definitely never happened before. I realized that because I genuinely
The reasons we educate our children have changed over time. However, some of the core values remain the same. One of the most important purposes of schooling is the transmission of a culture from one generation to the next. It is important to pass on our culture, values, and beliefs to our children so we continue to have a cohesive population. Schooling offers opportunity to our children by teaching them valuable skills that allow them to be self-sufficient and lead successful lives. Schooling also serves to decrease the social ills those without an education suffer from. A final purpose of education is to create people who are active in civic life.

Elementary school is where most people learn how to interact with peers outside of their families. It is also where you learn how to follow leaders and the directions they provide to you. Without the basics of reading, math, and problem solving, you would not be successful in higher grades. The struggle of catching up may discourage you from trying. This can cause you to drop out or not even attempt to continue on to college. The result may limit your job options and money making capacity, which leads into the second function, economic outcomes. The more education you have, the greater chance you will find the job of your dreams. Not only with higher pay, but with less physical requirements, increased probability of a leadership position, and improved overall working conditions that can lead to enhanced health with a longer life expectancy (New York University Department of Sociology, 2013). I was lucky to have teachers in my elementary school who were devoted to teach. They explained what going to college would mean and encouraged us by having college prep classes in 5th grade. We had a career week when past students at our school came in
In the recent times, home schooling has been the most sought mode of learning by the American parents. In fact, it estimated that over 1 million children in America are now undergoing home schooling (Cooper, 2005). Although this form of learning is legally acceptable, parents are entrusted with teaching and coaching their children in all subjects. In addition, parents can also hire private tutors for their children as part of home schooling. This form of learning is aimed at ensuring that parents commit themselves in ensuring their children are able to learn like other kids in public schools.
Early education includes all children from birth to age eight. Opting to provide excellent early education comes with many opportunity costs. Opportunity costs are losing potential gains when choosing one option versus the other. Anything other than giving children excellent early education comes with an opportunity cost that does not look forward to maximizing the future of next generations. It is important to include education early on in a child’s life to help secure the positive effects this will have on their development into adulthood. Though the opportunity cost of poor early education is great, the external benefits are greater with positive results. These benefits lead to a lasting success of academic and employment success
Education is a vital part of society. It serves the beneficial purpose of educating our children and getting them ready to be productive adults in today's society. But, the social institution of education is not without its problems. Continual efforts to modify and improve the system need to be made, if we are to reap the highest benefits that education has to offer to our children and our society as a whole.
The importance of early childhood development is found in the emotional, social, and physical development of the young children and how education has a direct effect on their overall development. Early childhood education is most beneficial for children ages three through five and is also often referred to as preschool, pre-kindergarten, day care, nursery school or early education. Early childhood education is necessary for the preparation of young children for their transition into elementary school and beyond. Sending children who are of preschool-age to an early education program can have a positive impact on the child's life and give them a noticeable head start towards a bright future.
It allows people to gain knowledge on skills society deems important like the three R’s, which are, reading, writing, and arithmetic. Education also prepares young people on entry into adulthood and is therefore a form of socialization. An education system was developed in order for every child to be able to know basic skill sets before having to be on their own. This is a way to partially guarantee that the general populous of a society is educated on all the same basic functions. It allows a society to run more efficiently and effectively if everyone knows a standard amount of skills. Surprisingly, a basic education for all is a relatively new system. Before the 19th century, education was only reserved for the rich, white, upper class. Most jobs back then did not require an education or the ability to read and write. Education overall has had many positive effects on people’s lives. It is directly linked to the type of job a person has and the amount of money they make. For the most part, the better a person’s occupational status, the higher likelihood of a greater formal education, and with a better occupational status comes a better
It is noticeable that the system of education is changing from time to time based on financial issues and how the world is growing. In the past, individuals taught the education system from the oldest member of the family to children, and their members were charging fees from the families that sent their children to them. Which meant that education was an important thing in all ages. Nowadays, the education is shaped to an official system run by professional people in governments and many countries invest high amounts towards education which makes evidence of how important it is in our current life. Every country has a different system of education based on their financial stability, government infrastructure and the standard of the government officials.
