Diagnostic decision making in medicine involves a cognitive process. As a clinician/physician, their main task is to make sure to give reasoned decisions about their patients based on the available information. They start with internalizing sets of data and observation gathered from the patient, and then producing decisions and series of options. Most data are obtained from the history and physical examinations of the patients, usually these are efficients for making a diagnosis, but often, more information is required. In some cases, an urgent decision must be made, these processes need to fit sets of observations into a specific category (Al-Sayyari, 2007). Myers (1962) developed type indicator personality measure based on Jung (1923) theory …show more content…
Problem solving research was initially aimed at describing reasoning by physicians to improve instuctions and as a process of testing hypotheses. Solutions to difficult diagnostic problems were found in hypothesis early in the diagnostic process ad use them for further collection of data (Elstein & Schwarz, 2002). Problem solving consists of four strategies; hypothesis testing, pattern recognition, specific instances, and general prototypes. The choice of strategy for diagnostic problem solving depends on the perceived difficulty of the case and on knowledge of content as well as strategy (Elstein & Schwarz, 2002). Decision making involves many information typically perceived and evaluated in order to produce the best single choice (Wickens et al., 2013). Availability is when people tend to overestimate the frequency of vivid or easily recalled events and to underestimate the frequency of events that are either very ordinary or difficult to recall as it refers to the ease which instances or occurrences can be brought to mind (Wickens et al., 2013). Representativeness refers to estimating the probability of disease by judging how similar a case is to a diagnostic category or prototype (Elstein & Schwarz, 2002). Bias, of course plays a role as well, confirmation bias describes a tendency for people to see
Have you ever wondered why you react to situations in the manner to you do? Whether you are calm and collect, or rigid and boisterous, the way you react to life is linked to your personality. Many different models exist to determine your personality type using answers from a series of questions or selecting between two opposing options. The most popularly used assessment is the Myers-Briggs Indicator Type test, which is based off the foundation of C. G. Jung’s work on personality types. The typology in the Myers-Briggs Indicator Type test yields results that determine if the person is introverted (I) or extraverted (E), sensing (S) or intuitive (N), thinking (T) or feeling (F), and judging (J) or perceiving (P). Each of these types corresponds
The Myers-Briggs Type indicator is an instrument designed to measure the elements of Jungian personality theory and makes the theory of psychological type both understandable and highly practical by helping individuals identify their preferences in four areas. According to the MBTI, I have a moderate preference for Introversion, a clear preference for Sensing, a slight preference for Feeling, and a clear preference for Judging (ISFJ). In general, ISFJs are sympathetic, loyal, considerate, conscientious, and will go through any amount of trouble to help those in need (Hirsh&Kummerow,1989).
Healthcare providers must make their treatment decisions based on many determining factors, one of which is insurance reimbursement. Providers always consider whether or not the organization will be paid by the patients and/or insurance companies when providing care. Another important factor which affects the healthcare provider’s ability to provide the appropriate care is whether or not the patient has been truthful, if they have had access to health, and are willing to take the necessary steps to maintain their health.

The Myers and Briggs Analysis is a series of questions that when answered are examined and grouped together in order to determine the personalities of those taking this test. This particular test can result in sixteen different outcomes or types of personalities, which is determined by four different categories that judge if you are introverted or extroverted, use your senses or your intuition, your choice to think or use your feelings, and finally if you are judgmental or perceptive. These series of questions are designed to judge our personalities and help us to determine which career pathways we will be most suited for based on our personality traits and abilities to work well with others, which is important for our future decisions.
I use different strategies when I do clinical decision making especially working with birth to18-years-old, our physical therapy program alone will not provide a good clinical decision making skills. Besides our physical therapy program I take every year continuing education in my field (Pediatric) through online or onsite seminars. I learned a lot now, when compare to the beginning of my physical therapy carrier. Our learning is never going to stop especially in our heath care field and every day we learn something new in our field. When I was in college my principal used to tell us that after we finish our physical therapy program we should work under senior physical therapist for at least two years to gain more experience before working independently. In the beginning, I was not really comfortable working with babies. But now I want to work only with children not adults because I am very comfortable with children after learning them well. I am still learning and getting more experience with children every day. ever before.
Her phenomenological study was done by interviewing patients, family members, and nurses until data saturation was achieved. Previous qualitative, quantitative and mixed-method studies were included in the development of Cypress’s research. She clearly defines the theory of uncertainty as it relates to the patient and identifies three stimulus frame components related to uncertainty symptom pattern, event familiarity, and event congruence. In her research two variables cognitive capacity and structure providers are identified as influencing these stimulus. This study found uncertainty primarily among the patient and not among the family
Clinical reasoning is an integral component of the occupational therapy profession. It is “the thought process that guides practice” (Rogers, 1983). The ability to effectively problem solve in a clinical work environment is a skill that must be practiced in order to master. In an ever-changing, diverse profession such as occupational therapy, it is imperative to remain knowledgeable and current of any changes or medical advances that may improve clinical competence. Clinical reasoning skills cannot be mastered solely with a textbook filled with examples of diagnoses and treatment interventions. Clinical competence is built on experience and opportunities to apply knowledge and learn from mistakes in a hands-on environment. Despite being exposed
According to Carl Jung’s typology theory each individual develops personal preferences which become the foundation for how they face life’s challenges and interact with others. Based on this knowledge Isabel Briggs Myers developed the Myers-Briggs Type indicator (MBTI). This test helps individuals identify and study their individual preference and those of others. After taking the Jung Typology Test, which is based on the MBTI, it was confirmed that my four dominate personality preferences are Introversion, iNtuition, Thinking and Judging. Each personality preference is discussed in detail including strengths and weaknesses. The combination of the four make me a INTJ of the world. This is also discussed in detail including strengths, weaknesses,

The Jung Typology Test is designed to give the participant a 4-letter formula which describes strength preferences of one’s personality type. The formula is based on whether the participant favors Extraversion or Introversion, Sensing or iNtuition, Thinking or Feeling, and Judging or Perceiving when it comes to the participant’s general attitude. One will also receive a Temperament, which is based on one’s personality type formula, and can be used to make somewhat accurate predictions of the participants preferred behavior. In this essay I will discuss the results that I received after taking the test. Having a personality type that prefers extraversion, sensing, feeling, and judging comes with many strengths and weaknesses when working in
Much of Jung’s work, controversial as it was, is still in use or extended upon to some degree today. Katherine Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers developed the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator based on Jung’s categorization of the psyche. Through taking this test, one can be identified as being one out of sixteen different categories such as ENFJ (extroverted feeling with intuiting) or ISTJ (introverted sensing with thinking). Jung’s Word Association test is also in wide use in the psychiatric field today.
A few decades ago, an unusual cough or a painful headache resulted in an immediate visit to the doctor. Scared that their symptoms were associated with a terrible disease, people were unwilling to relieve their pain on their own or wait until it passes. However, today’s Americans are more autonomous and take the alternative route: self-diagnosis. With the advancement of technology, a simple search on healthcare websites like WebMD or a quick post on social media can offer immediate answers to the ill’s symptoms and treatment options. Since WebMD’s creation in 1996, self-diagnosing has become increasingly popular during these two decades. In a 2013 research done by Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project, 59% of people search
