There is different levels of tooth erosion from tooth sensitivity to more severe cracking of the teeth. It is more common than people people actually think but good thing is that it can easily be prevented and fixed. How can you prevent tooth erosion? Well there is several ways to prevent tooth erosion, you can rinse your mouth with water after eating to get rid of some of the acidity, you can cut back on drinking carbonated drinks and replace with milk, water, or unsweetened coffee or tea. If you do drink carbonated drinks it would be healthier to drink with a straw. Swallow acidic foods or drinks quickly instead of letting them sit in you mouth longer. Be aware of what you eat and wait about an hour after eating acidic foods to brush your teeth. Chew sugar free gum instead of regular sweetened gum. Using soft toothbrushes and toothpaste that contains fluoride this helps protect your teeth. Since tooth erosion has several different causes it would be very beneficial to speak to your dentist one on one and ask any questions you may have. Flossing is very important so you can get all the leftover food out of your mouth and you can have a beautiful smile. When you floss you are preventing things such as tooth decay, gum disease and bad breath. Yes it does seem very easy to do and many people are surprised to find out they have been doing it the wrong way. Using proper flossing techniques plays a major on how effective flossing really is. To be sure it is being done properly, asking your dentist on the proper ways to floss would be very beneficial. Brushing your is also very important to remove all the leftover food or anything you have eaten and get rid off all plaque buildup to prevent cavities. when brushing your teeth have the proper tooth brush is very important because if the bristles are to hard it may cause damage to the gums and you want to make sure the toothbrush is the right size so that there isn 't any straining to the mouth or hand which is painful as well. This topic was brought to my attention by noticing the lack of dental hygiene among my peers. This doesn’t necessarily just mean having cavities, sore gums, or bad breath. Anaerobic bacteria is found in our mouth from drinking coffee, eating spicy foods,smoking tobacco, medications, gum diseases and many more.
As I started my new journey of becoming a dental hygienist, I came into the program with no background of dental. I came into this program with an open mind and willing to embrace new concepts as well as develop new skills. During my time at the Canadian Academy of Dental Hygiene (CADH), I learned that as a dental hygienist that I am committed to promoting and helping each individual achieve their optimal oral health goals. As a health care professional, the dental hygienist is an important member of the dental team providing patient care. Good qualities for a dental hygienist are compassion and enjoying talking to people which are two qualities that fit my personality.
