I, Myself, and the Global Leader in Me
A global leader is someone who has a natural curiosity about the world and the individuals around him. Apparently, the greatest challenges we face in the world are the global ones, and the world needs these global leaders to be its saving grace. But what does this global leader do that is so important? He connects people and ideas from unrelated parts of the world to bring about an innovative change to everyone’s lives, regardless of which side of the global story that they come from. I believe that I have accumulated over the years the skills needed to be a global leader, as well as give back something valuable to my country, and I will show it through a selected collection of past experiences.

When the summer of that year came, and school was over, we decided to travel over there to meet and consequently stay with him. We stayed much longer than we expected because my mother also developed some health issues, which led to her being admitted into the hospital. Thankfully, my sister and I had our aunt present who lived with us in our room in the apartment my dad had rented. Throughout my stay in the country, whenever I went out for some shopping or sightseeing, I realized that the population in the area we stayed in consisted of people from virtually every country around the world. What this meant was that a person could hear no less than 10 different languages whenever he steps out of his household. I can’t forget the sound of the chef at the restaurant discussing in Mandarin with his accountant, or the barber barking orders at his workers in German. This melody of various sounds and expressions became appealing to me; I decided to learn some of the languages, to become a part of the community. Every early morning, I sat on a luggage box right next to my bed because I shared the bed with my sister and my aunt. I would connect to the Internet with the apartment’s Wi-Fi due to the fact that I had no access to a personal one, or one in which we were meant to share. The time to use the Internet is limited, so I had to do whatever I wanted to in haste. I took my laptop, and I began. Later, after …show more content…
To be equipped with the power of engineering is my goal. Consequently, I would provide those changes that my fellow Nigerians require, especially by developing the information and communications technology of the nation, to keep us on a par with the modern society. My first steps towards this goal have been taken, especially in my Computer Studies and Data Processing classes in secondary school. But now I am about to take a very important step, and my challenge was finding a place where to take it. For months, I researched online, scanning through multiple college websites, until I stumbled upon a promising one owned by Drexel University, a university where students “apply the knowledge and skill they gain in the classroom to practical
Language is an important part of who we are. It influences the way we think and behave on a great scale. However, sometimes it is forced upon us to go in different directions just so we can physically and mentally feel as if we belong to the society in which we live in. Just as we see in Amy Tan’s “Mother Tongue” and Richard Rodriguez’s “A Memoir of a Bilingual Childhood”, both authors faced some challenges along the way by coping with two different languages, while still trying to achieve the social position which they desired.
The scene is always the same: the three of us sitting in a room together, talking. I see her from the corner of my eye, glancing for only a second or two, but always long enough to notice the look on her face, the expression I’ve become so painfully familiar with over the years. I am forced to turn away; the conversation resumes. She is a few feet from us. She hears everything, and understands nothing except what she can gather from the expressions on our faces, the tone of our voices. She pretends not to be bothered, smiling at us and interjecting random questions or comments in Chinese—a language I was raised to speak, a language I’ve slowly forgotten over the years, a language that is now mine only by blood. It is an earnest but usually futile attempt to break through the invisible barrier that separates her from us, and in spite of all her efforts to hide it, that sad, contem...
When I first came to this country, I wasn’t thinking about the language, how to learn it, use it, write, how I’m going to speak with people who are next to you and you want to talk to them. My first experience was in Veterans School, it was my first year in school here in United States, and I was in eight grades. The first day of school you were suppose to go with your parent, especially if you were new in the school, like me. What happened was that I didn’t bring my dad whit me, a woman was asking me a lot of questions and I was completely loss, I didn’t have any idea of what she was telling me and I was scare. One funny thing, I started cry because I fell like frustrate, I didn’t know no one from there. Someone seat next to me, and ask me in Spanish what was wrong and I just say in my mind thanks God for send me this person, then I answered her that I didn’t know Engl...
thought I'd never leave. I spoke only Cantonese, both to my friends and to my parents.
World leaders have reputations for changing the lives of many people. A good leader should be ready to sacrifice anything for his people and fight for their rights, as well as guiding them both politically and ethically. Those who have made a difference in the world by fighting for a cause will forever be remembered in their nations.
Leaders are the individuals who help to create options and opportunities. They help in identifying the choices and solve the problems. They build commitment and coalitions. Leaders do this by inspiring others and working along with them to construct the shared vision of the possibilities and commitments of a better group, organization or community. They engage the followers in such a way that most of the followers become leaders in their own right. The variety of demands of an increasingly complex world very often require that leadership be shared by most of the members of an organization, in appropriate ways for different situations. A leader is the on...
Globalization has many implications for leadership today and in the future. Global perspectives are being spread to the farthest points in the world and to the most isolated people. People of different cultures come to the United States daily to live, travel, or engage in business. Leaders must respond to this challenge of globalization so they can effectively reach out to as many people as possible. Opening themselves to the world's changes allows leaders to compare and contrast their culture with the arts, language, beliefs, customs, philosophies, and ways of living of other people. By observing and questioning another culture, leaders can understand the origin of an individual's viewpoints and become more sensitive to the cultural needs of that individual. By continually exposing themselves to other cultures, young leaders can thoroughly develop this global perspective and devote themselves to making connections with the entire world.
Great leadership is not achieved over night, and it is not something that one achieves and stops. Great leaders spend entire lives building and growing their leadership skills. It is not likely that a leader will one day wake up with all of the vision, influence, knowledge, respect, and momentum necessary to be great; these take time to develop. “It is the capacity to develop and improve their skills that distinguishes leaders from their followers.”
Leaders will no matter what have an influence on our world. They have missions, dreams and ambition, and with these things they are bound to go far. For leaders, what makes these dreams come true is having strong qualities such as leadership practices, values and strengths. If developed and learned how to use correctly, these are what take leaders to the next level and accomplish great things. In the following paper I will talk about leadership in our ever-changing world, explore my leadership practices, values and strengths as well as elaborate on the goals I have made to challenge myself as a leader.
A leader is someone that you can look up to, someone who has a conglomerate of attributes that motivate people to follow them. There are many reasons why you can find someone amusing, intriguing or interesting but the conglomerate of actions performed by them is what makes them stand over others. A global leader is someone who has transcends the geographical limits with their contributions not only to their field but to humanity as well. In this essay I will briefly discussed the attributes of the global leader I selected, his visions and his contributions to mankind.

What is a leader? When thinking of this question I feel like you have to really know what it means to be a leader. Becoming the kind of leader that people would follow voluntarily; even if you had no title or position. –Brian Tracy. No one is born a leader, leaderships skills come from life experiences, education and employment. Everyone grows into a leader and then afterwards grow into a leadership style that will eventually begin to shape and inspire other leaders. Having a title or high above power does not make you a leader. Inspiring and providing great communication, confidence, advice, laughs, knowledge, honesty and reality. Those great skills help you become a great leader. Even with these great leadership skills, there are
Leadership is one of the most important facets in organizations. In most cases, leaders act with respect to organizational culture as well as the codes of conduct that determine the manner in which leaders relate with subordinates. Leadership entails the use of effective communication skills to get activities done in the workplace and to ensure that employees shelve their individual interests for the sake of their organizations’ shared targets. It is the role of leaders to ensure that consumers attain high quality products and services by making certain that members of their firms’ workforce are fully motivated to work effectively and utilize resources in an efficient manner (Bass, 22). With the increasingly sophisticated nature of the corporate world, leadership should not be based solely on the desire to control and coordinate affairs within the workplace, but leaders should also exhibit positive examples and continually monitor the changing trends in corporate governance to initiate the most relevant guidelines. Competitiveness can only be attained when leaders are in a position to set the right standards in their firms and coordinate affairs appropriately by understanding consumer and employee needs.
Leadership is something that is really needed by all of the individual as well as to the organizations. The word leader has been derived from the leadership, which means a person that leads towards something so that the follower could achieve the goals. There are a number of the theories and the studies that have explored the importance of the leaders to the organization. The nations on the other side are also in need of someone who could lead them toward getting the goals. Leaders have the visions that are necessary for achieving the set destination. There is no place of the world where there is no need of leaders. It will be justified to say that due to leaders the hard and the difficult goals become simpler and easier to achieve.
