As a result of urbanization and improving living status, the prevalence of obesity increased at an alarming level and it considered a major health problem (AlNohair 2014). Adult from twenty to forty years were the focus of health promotion activities in this assignment to reduce the risk of obesity. HP interventions focused on empowering the adult population to develop their own healthy choices regarding healthy food. It has a major role in enhancing the health condition of adults with high risk of obesity through implementing Tannahill’s model. Tannahill’s model used to guide, structure health promotion activities, nurses are responsible to provide health promotion through implementing of this model and use health education, prevention and
If gluttony is one of the seven sins then we have many sinners in America. Obesity is a large problem in this country and more needs to be done to combat obesity. No one good solution, I believe, has been proposed to solve this epidemic. Jonathan Swift had an ingenious proposal to solve the problems of Ireland by feeding the children to the rich, after they reached the age of one. His proposal would have been beneficial because it would have solved many other problems. I have a solution to the obesity in this country that will solve several problems and benefit the country and its people. After people reach maturity and if their stomachs stick out more than 4 inches past their chest cavity, that area between the pectorals, then they should cut this excess flab/flesh and eat it.

As a large sedentary community, the Mid Atlantic Consolidated Patient Accounts Center (MACPAC) has a great need to promote exercise and healthy eating habits in the workplace. Currently more than one-third of the country suffers from obesity. It is my hope that with the help of the Wellness Committee we can continue to improve healthy lifestyle changes, and curb the epidemic of obesity that our country has. I am currently finishing my Masters in Public Health, and need to do a service project for the community. It is my hope that the MACPAC will be a place where we can start this change from sedentary lifestyles, to a more healthy and active
This day and age people are living longer with respect to various factors, for example, technology and evidence based practice which guide practices, in order to deliver safe and effective health care. However, many young adults are developing diseases that were once confined to adults. The prevalence of childhood obesity is rising and so is the steady incline of comorbidities in young adults. Education is perhaps one of the best options that can either control or prevent the rising rates of childhood obesity. The presentation was taught at a local recreation center where there are programs for people of all ages. My intended audience was adolescents, because they need to be educated about childhood obesity and health issues it may cause. This can prevent or control the obesity rates and in turn reduce cormorbidities that are associated with obesity.
Obesity is a rising problem in the United States. With obesity rates on the rise something must be done to prevent this massive issue. There are ways to help including educating at young ages, improving nutrition facts at restaurants, and providing more space for citizens to get physically active.
It also offers physical, psychological and social environment. Health Promotion is considered as a philosophy, multispectral and socio-cultural technique that purpose to promote the health and wellbeing of persons and communities through health education, supportive environments and so on. (Kozier et al., 2014, p.143). As a nurse, a first recommendation to Jessica is to select low calories and highly nutritious food. Jessica used to smoke packets of cigarettes, eat unhealthy, junk foods and drink alcohol. To prevent from illness, Jessica she has to eat healthy foods and reduce to drink alcohol in order to get healthy lifestyle. Another problem Jessica is getting stress when her boyfriend left her alone and she take care of her child alone. Due to her overweight, she feels uncomfortable to do exercise. To prevent from diseases and get safe and healthy lifestyle Jenna has to change her unsafe habits. Health promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. There are a number of significant approaches that underpin the practice of health promotion. Tannahill (1996) postulated that all approaches are interrelated, but individually seen; they reflect distinctive ways of looking or approaches health issues. These models includes medical, education, behaviour change, empowerment and social change. The models that connect these approaches are Becker (1994), Claplan and Holland’s (1990), Beattie (1991), Tannahill Downie et al (1996) and Tones, Tones and Tilford (1994).
The obesity epidemic is one of the most pressing issues at this point in both American society and U.S. public policy initiatives. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention 35.9% of U.S. adults over the age of twenty are obese (CDC, 2013). The CDC further notes that 69.2% of U.S. adults twenty years of age and over are overweight (this percentage includes those who are obese). The obesity problem is not exclusive to the adults in the U.S. The CDC notes that 18.4% of adolescents between the ages of 12 and 19 are currently obese (CDC, 2013). These statistics illustrate the severity of the obesity epidemic in this country, but what can be done to address or even correct this problem? Many people have proposed solutions, but few are as radical as the proposal from Michael Bloomberg (the New York City Mayor) in 2012.
Childhood obesity still considered to be an endemic problem and affecting the entire nation. Many programs are already established to help solving this matter. Among established programs is the kids’ night out at the Livonia recreation center, Michigan. Four nursing students continue planning to apply Rosswurm & Larrabee model of change .This model of change will be used by the change agents as a framework to help design the change project, Smart Choices Healthy Kids. Previously, the change agents had addressed the first three steps of this model. Now, they proceed to step four and step five, which cover the design and Implementation aspects of the model by: defining the need to reduce Obesity in children as included in the PICOT question and
To start off, I am going to explain the Health Promotion definition. Health is one’s ability to function well physically, mentally, and socially in order to function within the environment in which they are living in (World Health Organization, 2016). Encouraging one’s control over their own health in relation to social and environmental interventions defines health promotion which leads to the optimization of health (World Health Organization, 2016). It is essential for older adults to partake in changing their lifestyle in terms of their behavior and applying the knowledge they receive from health care providers in order to promote health (World Health Organization, 2016). Older adults mostly have a hard time taking care of themselves and need the assistance to guide them for their well-being. Therefore, nurses have a vital role in providing information and teaching individuals how to gain healthy ideas to promote healthy behaviors. Health promotion is a crucial element in supporting an older adult living with a health challenge such as Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
The healthy people 2020 have a broad goal on nutrition and weigh management. An objective in this area is the limitation of consumption of trans fats and saturated fats as well as cholesterol, sodium, added sugars and alcohol. With the health care facility based in largely African American community, a behavioral intervention will be important in primary prevention healthcare teaching program. According to Flegal et. al 2010, the problem of obesity and overweight is experienced more among the African American population as studies have shown African American women of in their 30’s and 40’s is more obese compared to their other counter parts. The same trend is experienced among adolescents and children as African American girls and Mexican American
The SMART goal of the obesity program is to reduce the obese population in Pitt County by creating a healthier diet program. Different objectives will be needed in order to reach this goal. The first objective is that from July 2016 through December 2016 100 community members will participate in the health department’s health promotion activities. This objective aligns with the reinforcement construct of the Social Cognitive Theory. By repeatedly participating in the activities, the 100 community members will be rewarded with the knowledge they receive and also motivation to change their behavior. By having an enjoyable time, they will be rewarded and want to keep coming back to the activities. The second objective is that following the 6-month duration; the majority of the participants will lose 2-10% of their original body weight by changing to a healthier diet. The reason the participants need to lose 2-10% of their body weight is to either prevent or reduce the chances of gaining other health diseases associated with obesity, including coronary artery disease and Type 2 Diabetes. This objective aligns with the self-efficacy construct. By losing a little bit of body fat, the participants will believe in their ability to lose weight, and continue to do so. The third objective is that on June 17 and June 24, informational brochures will be distributed to the community members to create awareness and reminders to join the obesity program, and gain knowledge about the health condition of obesity. This objective deals with the behavioral capability construct of the Social Cognitive Theory because the participants will gain the knowledge and skills needed to change their behavior through the brochures.
(2014) they found that the foremost effective strategy to promote healthy eating methods is to supply data on nutrition double-geared towards the individual, give incentives, encourage self-efficacy and to support total activity modification. This embodies the strategy of communication as a result the advocator is encouraging a complete lifestyle change by swopping out recent habits with better and healthier choices.
We live in a lazy nation and one that suffers from many health related issues associated with obesity. “Obesity is a national health crisis…”(Freedman 1). “ Health promotion is defined as the process of enabling people to increase control over and improve their health” (World Health Organization,n.d.). In order to achieve this goal every individual needs to actively participate in their daily care by changing necessary behavior and or applying current knowledge and theories. Health promotion have evolved since decades, hence it is not aimed for only one community or a nation, but for whole world thus it is a globalize action. Among all health care professionals, nurses play the pivotal role by providing evidence-based research and practice. Therefore it is one of the biggest challenge among nurses. Valuable health teaching enables the individuals, families and communities to gain strength and healthy ideas to promote or to adopt healthy behaviors. Thus every individual needs to take major ...
