“We are the only advanced country on Earth that sees this kind of mass violence erupt with this kind of frequency. It doesn't happen in other advanced countries. It's not even close," President Barack Obama said (CNN). Unfortunately, mass shootings is a tragedy that the American economy, has experienced on numerous occasions. Movie theaters, shopping centers, schools and even churches are places that have become unsafe because of mass shootings. As we reflect on these tragedies, abolishing the Second Amendment is an essential aspect to make the United States a safer country to live in based on theoretical foundation. According to Lemieux, the United States is one of only two countries in the world, with Mexico, to guarantee the “right to bear arms” in its constitution. Other countries granting that right in the past have amended their constitutions to make gun ownership a privilege (not a right), which requires permission from a licensing authority (the State), as with a driver’s license, for the sake of better public safety and security (Lemieux 76).
A 2011 Canadian study on the impact of gun control laws on homicides shows that the enactment of gun regulations was followed by a significant drop in the number of homicides committed with a firearm (Lemieux 76). As we compare the United States to other countries, it is apparent that the Second Amendment is not a beneficial to the American economy. My theory is supported based on evaluations of gun violence from other countries. Although guns are the issue, it is not the gun to blame, it is the individual who decides to misuse these objects.Mateen and Roof are two examples of the prohibited and the unprohibited that emphasizes the failure of gun control. Guns are misused everyday by citizens, therefore we shall not be allowed the right. The Second Amendment is fatal flaw of the United States. The right to bear arms has done nothing but cause turmoil to our country. Therefore, abolishing the Second Amendment could have a drastic effect on gun violence. I believe that solely government officials should have the right to carry firearms. Because of the Second Amendment, citizens feel the need to protect themselves with guns. An economy without guns in the hands of citizens would mean relying entirely on law enforcement for protection. Mass shootings, suicides, homicides and other acts of violence committed with firearms could be prevented because they are no longer in the hands of reckless
