Immigrant Interview

The United States of America is the land of dreams. That is the goal for many of the immigrants that migrate from different countries into America. In some cases it becomes the only hope for some people or families. In second and third world countries there are a lot of wars, violence, and injustice. People run away looking to be free. My interview comes from a person that decided to stay anonymous for protection. I asked a series of questions, and some were really personal. This person tells their story and why they decided to came, how their journey was like and how their lives are now. In exact words he said “They left us abandoned in a territory where the temperature was over 100 degrees, we thought those were our last moments to live.” The whole entire “journey” took about a month or so. Immigrations officials, police (both federal and state) and bad people that would act like immigration just to steal money were some of the greatest obstacles. Some people come without even knowing where they will be arriving nor anyone to go to. In this case this person at least had the plan to arrive to California to his father who had already been here. Another advantage this man had was that he came with a group of friends so he would not be alone. This man began his life as an immigrant at the age of fifteen. He entered the United States around the 90’s. Now this man describes his life as being better and he thanks God and the United States that gave him the opportunity to stay. He says “Now I live a better life than in my country and with a beautiful family and I will keep working hard at being successful and contributing to this nation.” As I ask him if he regrets coming he reassures me that he does not. The reason being was that where he comes from people can’t prosper and not because they can’t but because there is a lot of delinquency. Later I asked him if he was willing to cross the border again now if he had to and he said he would. Another thing asked was what final advice he would give to immigrants crossing now and he replied “I would advise to stay strong and keep up with the journey, hopefully they find what they are looking for
