Our book describes the image of nursing as “ the way the profession appears to others, other discipline and to the general public.” The image is very important to nursing because it shows that we are professionals and that we are accountable for a certain standards to our practice, and that not just anyone can be a nurse. Looking apart helps give nursing the respect and credit for all the hard work nurses put into their education and accomplishments.
It is very important for Nurses to be spokes person and be held accountable for the image that they portray. Many people think nursing is about popping pills and doing treatments. At least when I was a CNA that is what I thought my nurse did. Since I have begun my long journey and learn about nursing I found out that it is more then that. By continuing my education I have learned how much nurses are undervalued, underappreciated and underestimated on their knowledge. They put in a lot of hard work to be still treated like servants. …show more content…

We need more nurses into research so we can help our field succeed, and reading researches done by nurses can help educate the public about value of the nursing profession. We need an increase in educated nurses at the doctorate level to become nursing educators. We need more funding to the profession that will increase in recruiting future nurses, to help with the future nursing shortage. I think that we are educating new nurses to achieve more then just being a nurse of popping pills and dressing changes type of nurses as someone outside the field may perceive that is all we do. I know at least when I speak of nursing I encourage my friends kids to go into nursing and also give them the reality of the profession that it is hard work and they have to work hard at it but at the end it is all worth
