Wildlife is a very important role to Illinois; there are many different categories of wildlife. One of the categories is plant life found throughout Illinois. Some of the plants are dandelions, sunflowers, poison ivy, and goldenrod. Although plants in Illinois are beautiful, there are also many mammals, fish, and birds. These many plants and animals throughout Illinois make this state a very interesting and beautiful place to visit and study.

Dandelions
There are many plants in Illinois that you can see locally, whether it is in your yard, on the side of a road, or on a hike in the woods. One common flower that you can see in your yard is a dandelion. Dandelions grow statewide from the beginning of spring to the end of fall (Busch 38). With that being said, these pesky flowers grow for a long time. Even though most adults, especially gardeners, don’t like dandelions, children find this flower to be interesting (Busch 38). Even though gardeners hate this weed, people, not only kids, adore this flower all over the state (Busch 38). Although this plant is interesting, dandelions are very hard to expel (Busch 38). To prevent dandelions, you can dig them out with a shovel, spray weed killer on them, or just chop the flower out of the ground (Busch 38). Believe it or not, some people eat dandelion leaves in their salad (Busch 38). Others cook the roots and eat them as their daily vegetable (Busch 38). I know I wouldn’t want to eat this pesky flower! Not only do people eat dandelions, but different people have beliefs about them as well. Some people say that if you blow seeds off, the amount of seeds that are remaining will be the number of kids you will have in the future (Busch 38). Others believe that if...

Illinois’ wildlife is one of the most interesting and unique characteristics about Illinois. Next time you take a walk in the woods or cruise in your car on a Sunday look for these amazing creatures that live in your local area.

Warsaw, Missouri holds the record for both the coldest and the hottest temperatures ever recorded in Missouri ("Missouri Facts and Trivia"). The temperate deciduous forest is home to unique ecosystems and plentiful wildlife and vegetation. The temperature and precipitation in this biome is not too high or too low, hence the word temperate in the name. The terrain in the temperate deciduous biome has a great effect on the adaptations of the living organisms in the area. Missouri belongs in the temperate deciduous forest biome because both regions have similar climate, locations, terrain, flora, and fauna.

Although at face value the poem “dandelion” by Julie Lechevsky may appear to just be about dandelions, after taking a closer look at the metaphors, personifications, and other literary devices that are used, it is clear that the poem is about how attention isn’t always a good thing. Lechevsky does this by showing how dandelions are well known but not in a good way, and how her parents give her too much attention.

Historically, Chicago has been and always will be a city of change both industrially and agriculturally to the metropolis we know and revere today with skyscrapers and culture abound. In order for the city to become the industrial hub, changes were made to the natural landscapes to accommodate business and residency. Steel became the staple good, and green spaces were demolished during the expansion of industry in the Calumet region by the masses in the creation of steel for railroad tracks and structural steel for commercial buildings. For geographical ambiance, The Calumet region of Chicago is consisted of the following neighborhoods: Burnside, Calumet Heights, East Side, Hegewisch, and Pullman, South Chicago, and South Deering. In this essay, I focus primarily on Pullman. It was unknown, or unsought of rather, how these implications would lead to issues of both economic and environmental injustice.

The deer are easy to spot. In the summer, it’s coat is reddish-brown and in the winter it is buff. All year around its underside and tail are completely white as well as having a white spot on its neck. The prime deer habitat consists of deciduous trees, primarily cottonwood, ash, willow, elm and box elder. However preferred, the woodland cover is not essential to the deer’s survival.
In “The Flowers,” by Alice Walker, the flowers are used throughout the story to symbolize the beauty and naivety of childhood. In the beginning of the story the author shows the main character Myop walking down a path along the fence of her farm. Myop sees “an armful of strange blue flowers with velvety ridges…” The flowers are bright and colorful, reminding the reader of an innocent type of beauty often associated with them. This suggests the flowers were inserted in the story by Walker to reveal how young and innocent Myop appears to be. Later in the story, after Myop had discovered the dead body of a man who seemed to have been hung “Myop laid down her flowers,”. As Myop put down the flowers she was also putting down the last of her innocence.
