Illegal Immigration has been an issue throughout American history. Many individuals have their own opinions when it comes to this topic. For instance, some may argue that illegal immigrants enrich American society, but others believe that they detract. Those who believe illegal immigrants enrich America have a very good reason. One of them being that illegal immigrants help to keep the economy moving and growing by taking the low-wage jobs. Furthermore, the opportunity provided for individuals brought to the United States as children to remain and acquire an education could benefit the U.S. in the long run. Some examples of those jobs are fast-food workers, construction work, servers, cashiers, and anything that has to do with manual labor. Many Americans think so highly of themselves they believe that they should not be seen working at any of these jobs because “they are better” and they should be doctors, lawyers, or teachers. As a result, the economy may drop since there are not enough Americans willing to take on low-wage jobs, which results in willing undocumented immigrants to take on those jobs. For instance, in the article “A Landscaper’s ‘Hire American’ Plan Ended with Bringing in Mexican Workers to Finish the job” Tracy Jan states, “ Importing temporary labor exposes his company to too much uncertainty every year. But there are simply not enough Americans who want the type of jobs he offers, with regular work only between April and October, especially in a state with one of the nation’s lowest unemployment rates”(washingtonpost.com). American employers would obviously want people from their country to work the jobs they offer, but when that does not work they have to seek for others. For instance, many individuals argue that illegal immigrants cause big strains on public resources for school and jobs. As a result, Americans feel as if the United States is paying too much attention to the undocumented people rather than on the legal residents. Furthermore, one presumes that illegal immigrants will take on all the resources in America, which will leave none for them. Many Americans also feel the U.S. is wasting money on immigrants. Nevertheless, this is a poor argument in support of the enrichment illegal immigrants have to offer to the U.S. because they can bring a lot to the table by helping America financially.
