I have always been a supporter of people who don't let their sex or race prevent them from achieving their goals. There are so many influential Hispanic figures that have had a positive impact on Florida. These people have done tremendous things that make Florida a safe and wonderful state. Even though she is a Cuban-American, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is an outstanding woman who has done several things to make life better in Florida by providing children with the ability to get a good education and always embracing her Hispanic heritage. Florida families have benefited from the education programs sponsored by Ileana Ros-Lehtinen allowing their children to be able to go to college. She has played an important role in improving the educational system in Florida. …show more content…
Ileana Ros-Lehtinen was a certified teacher in Florida before she was elected into Congress.
She was the first Hispanic woman to be elected into the Florida State House of Representatives and the Florida Senate. She has sponsored the legislation for the one of the largest prepaid college tuition programs in the nation. More than one million Florida families have benefited from the education programs sponsored by Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, allowing their children to be able to go to college. She has played an important role in improving the educational system in Florida. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen has been a great defender of human rights. She is a hard worker who works on multiple issues that matter to her. She had pushed for programs that address very serious problems. Domestic violence is a terrible problem and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen has worked hard to protect women in violent situations. She fought for the Violence Against Women Act, that increases resources used towards the end of domestic violence and sexual assault cases. With all the horrible things happening to women in the world, she has been motivated to help all women no matter their
race. She has not let other people views affect the way she presents her Hispanic heritage. In Spanish, she gave the first Republican response to the State of the Union address, demonstrating her pride in her first language. I admire the way she represents the Hispanic community in Florida. As a woman, who is Hispanic, I am inspired to become someone who can influence people like she has. Not many women take the opportunity to meet their goals. She has never given up, nor has she ever been ashamed of being a Hispanic woman. I have come to see that she is a brave woman, who has been able to do all the things that she has put her mind to. It's nice to know that there is a successful Hispanic woman that is supporting Florida. I am grateful that there is a woman who is fully educated in congress that I can look up to. She is a devoted wife and doesn't let the fact that she has a family stop her from helping others achieve their dreams. Being a Hispanic woman is not easy, she has opened the doors for all Hispanic women and has proved everyone who has ever doubted her wrong. She didn't settle for less; she didn't just do things for herself, but for others as well.

serving as the first hispanic high supreme court judge. She has undergone challenges, of maybe discrimination. Just because she grew up being hispanic, people have a “stereotyped” version of what hispanics are most likely to be. Being hispanic does not mean doing illegal things, people like Sotomayor could succeed in things she wants to become. Proving everybody who thinks Hispanics are lazy/ illegal wrong. Sotomayor is the nineteenth most powerful woman in this country, she is classified on closing all top case files, and is known for honoring her heritage because she didn’t care what other people said about Hispanics, she went and achieved her dream of having a career connected to “crime in justice”. Sotomayor believes that education is basically the base or the first steps you take to achieve things in life. Sonia Sotomayor has accomplished her past objectives and keeps on having goals to accomplish, continually eager to make modification for the individuals who demonstrate that they need to roll out an improvement. Through her activities she demonstrated that anything is conceivable on the off chance that you set it. Sotomayor has been through numerous snags that she needed to confronted yet despite everything she succeed her objectives. Sonia Sotomayor is a good example for the individuals who may believe that it's conceivable to wind up somebody like her or surprisingly better. Particularly if she's speaking to the Hispanic race, she's a good example for the individuals who did not surmise that turning into a judge in the Supreme Court was
Judge Sonia Sotomayor was nominated to replace Supreme Court Justice Souter on June 1, 2009 by President Barack Obama. After extensive Senate hearings by the Committee on the Judiciary, Sonia Sotomayor was confirmed by the United States Senate with a 68 to 31 vote on August 6th, 2009. (Supreme Court) Although it was clear that Republicans had no intention to filibuster the nomination, partisan lines were clearly divided both during the committee hearings and illustrated in the Senate votes. However, due to the Democratic Majority in the Senate, it was clear that Sotomayor would be confirmed. During the hearings, Sotomayor answered the questions honestly, eloquently, and cautiously. During questioning, it was evident which issues were most important to the Senate: impartiality, activism and the ‘wise’ Latina.
...being one of the most powerful women in politics and represented Denver in 1997. People looked up to her as she represented women’s positions in politics, child care programs, and fought to decrease the spending limits that were set for defense installations (Abbott, Leonard, Noel, pp. 480, 2013).
As she made a name for herself, one of Jennifer's accomplishments is her influence within the Hispanic community. For instance, Jennifer participated with the organization Children’s Health Fund, which administers “a mobile van program that gives health services and education to underserved children in disadvantaged rural and urban communities” (“Charity-Jennifer Lopez”). As most know, one of the major group to have insurance issues are latinos because most latinos are undocumented. Her attendance at the Children's Health Fund Gala, shows how she can honor the 20 years of work and support that has been done to make the lives of countless positive. In addition, makes others acknowledge the fact that she goes out of her way to spread the word to assist the less
I am choosing to write my essay focusing on Nancy Pelosi, arguably one of the most influential politicians of her time, and certainly one of the outstanding ladies of the political world. Not only was she the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House, she also was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame at Seneca Falls. She ranks with the most consequential speakers, certainly in the last 75 years.”(Burstyn) Nancy Pelosi was born on March 26th in 1940 and she has represented San Francisco for approximately 29 years. This however is not by far her most notable achievement, speaker of the house aside, under her guidance the 111th US Congress was said to be the most productive in the history of its conception. This means that she was able to oversee the 111th Congress in a manner that minimized the terrible three, collective action problems, commitment problems, and coordination problems. These problems all come down to the inability to make decisions, and are extremely ponderous to efficiency. She ran it as famously, even though the house was so divided when she took the pos...

Like the influence of the Spanish language, Hispanics have made many significant contributions Florida. In business, science, politics and education Hispanics have been a key factor in Florida?s development and its economy. It?s essential for people to know how Hispanics have contributed to this state, because without Hispanics the state of Florida may not be what it is today. It is important not only for me to learn of their accomplishments but to learn from them so that I too can be a productive Hispanic leader in my community.
Women’s equality has made huge advancements in the United States in the past decade. One of the most influential persons to the movement has been a woman named Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Ruth faced gender discrimination many times throughout her career and worked hard to ensure that discrimination based on a person’s gender would be eliminated for future generations. Ginsburg not only worked to fight for women’s equality but fought for the rights of men, as well, in order to show that equality was a human right’s issue and not just a problem that women faced. Though she faced hardships and discrimination, Ruth never stopped working and, thanks to her equality, is a much closer reality than it was fifty years ago.
Wendy Davis is a democrat born right here Fort Worth Texas. She went to school at Texas Christian University and graduated with honors at Harvard Law School. As a community Mexican Americans are the least likely to actively vote or participate in local, state and federal elections or politics(Tovanche). With this action the American population goes misrepresented in government. Policies to aid the education systems and infrastructure of Mexican American communities cannot be passed if there are not sufficient votes in support of such laws. As a whole the Mexican American community cannot prosper without representation in legislation. With the education of Mexicans in U.S. history a sense of belonging and civil responsibility is brought on. With this new found sense of belonging and responsibility the majority minority should be provoked into a social awareness and duty of voting and using the government to further the community’s progress, rather than remaining victims of the laws and bills passed to stunt their
