The earth at this time, is at a state of downfall in which the only people to blame is us. Global disasters and environmental issues are a huge sign of the earth’s deterioration. For instant, global warming, deforestation, and pollution are the planet’s worse enemies, therefore human beings are reckless in their decision-making to encounter this matter. The real problem is ignorance and lack of acceptance of this horrifying issue. What other severe problem that we can face nowadays that putts our future children’s lives in jeopardy? We need to take action and responsibility to save our planet. First things first, as we all know how our community, including myself, tend to satisfy their needs by what we call “over consumption” of goods and services. These old habits need to be adjusted. Even thought it will be challenging but we need to adapt ourselves to respect the environment in order to reduce the amount wasted per each individual or every household. Every single person should take the liberty of complete the ecological footprint test that estimates your yearly consumption of carbon (home energy use and transportation), food, goods, services, housing. The result will reveal the amount wasted by your consumption and gives an accurate calculation of earths needed based on your means. After taking the test, it appears that if everyone on the planet lived my lifestyle, we would need 4.47 earths. Clearly my results are rather disappointingly and unsatisfactory towards my environment where I live in. Here is a small chart where it illustrates my footprint in global hectares: Appendix 1 Just a brief background regarding myself as a consumer to describe how I have been affecting my environment through my own personal lifestyle. I consider myself as a below average consumer since I tend to be less demanding that other people. In comparison to my other friends which some of them are disgracefully spoiled by their parents, are more likely to obtain all they recommend, simply because they are used to a spendthrift habit. According to my footprint table illustrated above, it demonstrates that in my food consumption is the only category where I exceed my country average. However, I am trying to change my eating routine and make an effort to minimize my food portion to one large meal and a couple of light snacks per day. In addition, I need to cut down fast food and restaurant eating habit because it is not helping me to stay fit neither sustaining the environment.
One starting point to reducing the amount of greenhouse gases that you release is to find your carbon footprint. The carbon
The two essays by Michael Pollan and Curtis white talk about climate change in regards to the relationship between the environment and human beings. Although the two essays share the same topic, they take the subject and engage the readers in totally different points of views. Pollan’s essay talks about global and ecological responsibility being a personal virtue while Curtis discusses the socio-economic or political issues underlying sustainability (Pollan; White). These two essays are very different in terms of voice; however these pieces of writing are both important for people all over the world to read. Climate change and environmental disasters are a real issue. Just this year, there have been more storms, cyclones, earthquakes and typhoons all over the world. One cannot look at the state of many developing counties where the majority of the population is exposed and vulnerable to the effects of climate change. This issue on developing a viable solution for the problem of anthropogenic gases and global warming is long from being found. Not only this, many people do not want to hear about this issue since they do not think it is real. Unless people have tangible proof that their cars, thermostats and aerosol cans are contributing to climate change, they are not going to give up their lifestyles. By synthesizing the two essays, one can see that there is a need for change and that it is not an issue which should be dealt with in terms of ecological factors or even personal virtue. The social, economic and political factors affecting this problem and the move towards real sustainability should also be a topic that will raise awareness.
One should be mindful, not wasteful, and attempt to purchase and eat as little as necessary. Cutting back unnecessary food intake overall will help reduce an ecological footprint in itself.
A personal ecological footprint, also known as an eco-footprint, is the demand that an individual person puts on the Earth’s natural resources; such as land, ocean, and the waste that the individual produces. A person’s consumption of the Earth’s resources and how that individual impacts the earth help to create a personal eco-footprint calculation. At http://myfootprint.org/, I calculated my personal ecological footprint and discovered my impact on the Earth’s resources and its ecosystem. The ecological footprint quiz results were that if everyone on the planet lived my lifestyle we would need 3.86 Earth’s to sustain the world’s population.
I am really surprised with the result of my ecological footprint because I had no idea how my habits consume so many natural resources. Besides I cultivate some green habits as living in a house which has switched all the lights to fluorescent bulbs in order to reduce carbon dioxide pollution, unplugging my devices when they are not using to save energy and washing my dishes by hand instead using the dishwasher to save water and energy, this actions aren’t not enough to have a good footprint and I have so many things to do to improve it. Here are three actions that you could take to reduce my ecological footprint.
Climate Change is an ongoing problem that continues to intensify as time goes on and not much is happening to change it. Material consumption and increasing populations are increasing the issue of climate change and ruining Earth’s ecosystems. Since the Earth’s population is growing and fast, people are using more energy and materials, which raises great concern. The human ecological footprint has grown so much over the past few years that it is almost irreversible if not changed quickly. Climate change is the most important threat to the Earth and many factors lead are to blame, fossil fuels, greenhouse gases, and carbon dioxide. It would although be ignorant to say that man has nothing to do with it, as the population increases, the need for natural resources, use of more fossil fuels, more waste is produced, the is more pollution which leads to the ozone depletion causing global warming and essentially climate change overall. Since man has the ability to cause such harm to the Earth, man should change their ways to reverse the damage.
Former Vice President, Al Gore’s speech, The Climate Emergency, was a highly accurate prediction of the circumstances our planet would be under in coming years. The facts relevant as of 2004 are still true in the year 2015. While many companies and individuals have learned to contribute to helping our plant go greener, the dangers of the climate change are still a pressing issue supported by scientific evidence. With occurrences such as extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and ice cap disappearances, global warming is physically being show on our planet and in order to prevent a complete reversed climate on our hemispheres, the population of Earth as a whole must ban together to reduce our carbon footprint.
The first part of this essay discusses what the human species has done to deal with the problem of climate change. While some improvements have been made, the problem has not been addressed aggressively enough to stop the damage. What is amazing about this is the denial of so many people that problems exist. If they do realize the risks, they are simply not taking actions to contain the damage.
Numb3rs is an American television series which is produced by Ridley and Tony Scott. The stories are based on Federal Bureau of Investigation teams and mathematics professors. A typical episode would consist of a crime, which is then investigated and solved by Don’s team (an FBI agent) and mathematically described by Charlie. The insights which are presented by Charlie’s mathematics are most crucial part of the climax where the crime is solved.
Every day the world around us is changing ever so slightly in many different ways. Humans can affect the environment through our day to day lifestyle without even noticing the change. An ecological footprint is a measurement of how much a person uses the environment around them to live their life. This given measurement can help one to see their impact on the earth. It is an important tool to understand what actually a human does to change the habitat near them. My ecological footprint results gave me a perspective of how my daily life can impact the world I live in, as well as, how I as an individual can change my actions to make less waste on earth. It is also useful for each person to know their own ecological footprint since no one live
Every day when looking out a window, people see a beautiful earth. The earth is intriguing, but hinges on a delicate balance. Many natural resources keep the grass green and the sky blue. Man has made quite an impression on our world, and has transformed the earth's resources into tools to make life easy. However, mans' manipulation on earth has become detrimental to the health of our planet and the safety of mankind. Through the use and production of resources such as oil and energy, man is gradually poisoning the earth. Pollution has become such a dilemma in society; there is no real control or a feasible solution to society's recklessness. Without complete change, our system will collapse. The earth will eventually retaliate with disaster, or corporate control of our economy will cause hysteria and depression. Evaluation of the consequences and repercussion of worldwide pollution, may give people a better idea of what the future holds.
For instance, within a mile where I live, there are more than seven fast food restaurants, and most of people that I know consume fast foods at least once a week. Since we all live under the same atmosphere, if the fast foods industry had negative impacts on the environment, it would affect the well- being of the whole society. For this reason, this is a topic that matters to people all around the world. Therefore, the purpose of this research paper is to learn more about the subject matter, so hopefully I could adjust my eating habits, and influence my friends to adjust their eating habits in order to protect the environment.
Many climate scientists, researchers, and environmentalists are expressing concerns about shifts in the overall climate of the earth. It is believed that a dramatically dangerous warming is taking place in the overall global climate, a problem that is referred to as "global warming”. Global warming is the observed century-scale rise in the average temperature of Earth’s climate system. This temperature rise is due to the damaging effects of deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels. It is our responsibility to preserve our planet and our way of living but in order to do that we need to act now. If we continue to destroy the planet with no regard as to how serious this matter is there could be several negative effects to us as human being and other living thing on Earth. This is why global warming is truly a global issue and needs to be tackled collectively. We must to act now in order to reduce the dangerous levels of carbon dioxide emissions and we must to work together.
Many people assume that the environment is not in danger. They believe that as technology advances, we do not need to worry about renewing natural resources, recycling, and finding new ways to produce energy. They state that one person in the world does not make a large difference. In reality, each individual's contribution greatly affects our environment. Our natural resources are slowly disappearing, and we must work together to save them and the Earth from ruin.
One of the most substantial problems in the world today is global warming. This gradual warming of the earth is in occurrence at an extremely slow rate but it is happening. Many scientists believe that as human’s work and release greenhouse gases into the earth’s atmosphere, it can become dangerous for the long lasting life of humans and our environment. “Unless we take immediate action, the impacts of global warming will continue to intensify, grow ever more costly and damaging, and increasingly affect the entire planet - including you, your community, and your family” (“Global Warming Impacts”). Everyone should be knowledgeable about global warming and the dangers that it brings to our planet. This essay will examine
