I walked into his office. The look on his face was distasteful. He made me feel inferior to him. Not the way you should feel around your high school principal. I didn’t feel welcome, or even accepted. His beady eyes burned holes in my skin.
I sat. He gazed into my tired eyes, and he asked me the following, "What’s going on?" How am I supposed to respond to this sort of question? If I say "nothing," it’s a given that there is something. However, if I try to speak with him about anything, it will be like talking to a brick wall. Authority figures never have any compassion. They care only about the person that rules them.
In this case it would be the superintendent. I reply with a comment which is very versatile, "Not much, and yourself?" He gives me a look of disappointment. The kind of look you get when your parents find out you’ve been skipping school for the whole first semester. He turns his back to me. I hate it when they do that. They always think you are going to be sitting there waiting for them to turn around.
Like you think they are the most important person in the world. I don’t do that though, I just admire all the hoaky pictures and quotes on his white walls. Yeah, if he actually believed in all these sayings he wouldn’t be working here, I think. Suddenly, I feel my ears begin to burn. I try to do a play by play in my head of what I am going to say to him. I don’t know why I do that, it never helps.
I always end up shooting off my mouth, and getting into trouble. He turns back around and informs me that I was absent this past Friday. LIKE I don’t know. He tells me I have to serve seven hours of detention. "Excuse me, Mr.
Principal, Sir..." I begin. Only to be cut off with another, "I don’t want to hear it." I shut my mouth and let him ramble on. I have a lot of better things to do with my time, I think to myself. Listening to people you really don’t care to listen to is quite boring. So, I let my mind wander. I think of how many runs I could be snowboarding down at this very moment.
Henson, the assistant principal, lacks the communicator trait. Henson has not taken any opportunities to communicate with the parents, students, staff, or community this year. Due to his lack of communication skills he has not fostered any relationships with individuals who he will interact with next year as the head principal. Henson has been assigned the head principal job for the 2016-17 school; I believe his lack of communication skills will cause problems in his principalship. Parents want their children to attend schools where the teachers and administrators are relatable and can effectively communicate his expectations for them and their children.
During my first few weeks, I met a student named Joseph. He towered over me at 6-foot-4 and weighing 300 pounds. At first, I didn't know what to expect from him.I was surprised to learn he had failed the 9th grade twice and with this being his third try he was in the same grade as his younger brother, Jason. Joe and I became friends fast. I was treated differently because of my skin color but Joe did not judge me. Through students chit-chatter, I learned Joe was very popular and on the football team but had unexpectedly quit his first year. Joe struggled with his classes especially in English and Mathematics. One day in English, another kid was struggling to read a passage aloud, the classroom was filled with snickers and the teacher made the poor kid continue. After class, Joe comforted the kid and made him smile. That was his talent,, he had the ability to make people feel better.
Huck can also be seen as a symbol for America in the novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain. Huck says that he 's got to "Light out for the territory ahead of the rest," This indicates that he 's taking on the role of the pioneer: heading out to new, untamed country. Huck does not want to be a “sivilized” man. When one place becomes somewhat “sivilized”, he moves to a new frontier. Like most early Americans, Huck was smart but uneducated, a little wild but honest and moral, and not too fond of table manners. So Huck was like most early American

She then claims that fast food should not be considered healthy based on the number of healthy options provided but rather on which food options the consumers regularly purchase. To support this claim she provides an example of Subway’s marketing strategy using Jared Fogle which rebranded the restaurant as a place for healthy food. She then compares the consumer purchases between Subway and McDonalds and claims that despite Subway’s brand image as “healthy,” the caloric content of their sandwiches is not significantly lower compared to the food at McDonalds. Therefore, while consumers have low calorie options, most of the food at Subway contain a significantly higher caloric content than the options highlighted in the marketing strategy. She concludes her argument by arguing that all of this evidence shows that there is no relationship between menu options and healthy eating at fast food restaurants. She suggest that people should focus on changing consumer reactions to fast food and therefore eat fast food less often rather than looking for fast food chains to provide more
Eating meals together as a family will encourage an environment that not only promotes healthier eating, but also allows time for family, for communication, nurturing family traditions, and their children learn life skills (Kaakinen et al., 2015). I will assist and encourage this family to find the time to shop, prepare, and eat together meals that are nutritious as well as healthy. Information and guidance would be provided to help the family understand the daily nutritional requirements of not only themselves, but also for their children. This family would need to take the initiative to learn the nutritional contents of food and be able to incorporate it into meals that provide these daily requirements. There are many Internet sources such as, www.USDA.gov, www.eatright.org, www.letsmove.org, and www.choosemyplate.gov that provides tips, guidance, and recipes that will help families develop healthier eating habits (Ogata & Hayes,
Different with Mark Bittman, I don’t think food that cooked at home can completely replace junk food. People will still partly rely on that because they are lack of time on cooking. However, they can simply make changes on their diet and benefit future. Instead of forcing themselves entirely abandon junk food or cook at home. they can make a change little by little. All they do is add something they eat too less, subtract the thing they have too much and develop cooking methods for delicious food . Because the change is step by step, they don’t spend extra money or energy on change so that they will has less resistance to balance their life.
Teaching is one of the most well-known professions all around the world. However, it is also extremely underestimated, especially when it comes to teaching elementary school students. Jenny Peters, writer of the article Confessions of An Elementary School Teacher, observes that it is indeed a “challenging career” that in the end has “immeasurable rewards” (1). However, no matter what you have to do, it seems as though those rewards overrule anything and everything as long as your heart is in it, not only for the students, but for the drive to teach them and lead them to bigger and brighter futures.
He would always thank me for the service, tasks that I would do, and he was the first resident to have an impact on my life. Every time I saw him he would tell my not to do drugs, alcohol or join a gang. My mother was very fond of him because of the life lessons and tips he would tell me that my mom had tried to drill into my head. He would always tell stories about his past and no matter how tired or bored I was; I gave him all my attention because I knew it made him happy. Before I met him I was a stereotypical teenager very quiet and shy, but he broke the ice and stated to interact with me. During my time with Mr. Renderos I taught myself how to interact with others, take care and respect them. The ability of interact and work with others is a necessary skill for life; school projects require a person to work with others in order to be a successful team and is later transferred into the working world were a person has to work with others on a daily basis. Yet after all that I have learned; I felt I had achieved something that I have never felt. And that was
Gender integration in the military has always faced the question of social acceptance, whether society can accept how women will be treated and respected in the military. Throughout the history of the military, our leadership has always sought ways in how to integrate without upsetting the general public if our females were captured as prisoners of war, raped, discriminated or even blown up in combat. My paper will discuss three situations pertaining to the first female submariner, fighter pilot and infantry graduate. I will also discuss some of the arguments that male military leaders and lawmakers opposed the integration of women: lack of strength, endurance, and the disruption of unit cohesion. I will end this paper with my personnel experience as a female NCO responsible for other female subordinates within my command and share some of their experiences while deployed in combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“Well, your kids are banging their fists on the walls and setting a bad example for my kids!” he angrily shouted with a crimson face. “You’d better get over there quick and settle them down or I’m gonna’ call the cops!” “Look,” I calmly replied, “I’ve been assigned to this group of sixty students. Our school has five very capable chaperones already over there to deal with that problem.”
Americans use this statement to validate going out to eat rather than cooking. Bittman argues that this statement is used to explain the reasoning of why people are overweight, particularly in lower income families (660). The reality is that it is not cheaper to buy fast food or junk food, but actually cheaper to cook a home cooked meal. It could cost around 28 dollars to feed a family of four at McDonalds, while it can cost around 14 dollars to cook a meal at home and even low as 9 dollars (Bittman660). Excuses of junk food being cheaper is not relevant, it is the lack of time wanting to spend and the way society and the body is programmed. “The core problem is that cooking is defined as work, and fast food is both a pleasure and crutch” (Bittman 661). They rather do what is easier and more comfortable for them. Instead of justifying the bad habit, individuals should make a conscious attempt in making meals. Planning meals ahead of time and intentional putting time forward to do this for their
His name is Mr. Zang, my high school teacher in China. A very thin and tall man, Mr. Zang is very caring and always tries to understand the students' concerns and finds joy in having conversations with them. Mr. Zang and I used to discuss my plans to go to the US and why I studied English so intensively. He helped give me confidence that I would find success in the US, and I began to think of him as a very respectable man. When I found out that Mr. Zang, unlike most teachers in China, never hit students, I began to respect him even more. Unfortunately, other students had negative opinions of him and thought he was a coward.
The teachers of the school were very supportive, I loved them all. Being at school is very good in terms of dealing with different people. We were exposed very early to this world; where there are different attitudes and beliefs. I think having teachers with totally different minds has a role in our social intelligence development. I learned how to deal with people even if their beliefs, thoughts and styles do not meet mine.
I headed out to the kitchen to get breakfast that my mom cooked for me. Then, I noticed a blank sheet of paper. A naked, colorless, blank sheet of paper situated there on the kitchen table. Boy did I love to draw unusual things on blank pieces of scrap paper, so I thought. Luckily there was that snaggy old pencil of mine lying there, laying right where I needed it to be, by the paper. I quickly picked up the pencil and started to think. Again, my brain worked its way back in the past thinking of the school policy. Telling me what not to do, increased my ignorance to do the inevitable. How dare the school policy tell me what to do, “No threatening of school members or staff.”
