In today’s society, a lot of what we are exposed to in the media contains bias, resulting in not entirely accurate information. We can choose what we want to believe ignoring certain facts, which could affect the way we live regarding health and happiness. Ignorance is not “bliss”, but can have a negative impact on our health if we choose to ignore what is happening in the world around us. No matter how much you try to silence your surroundings, your culture, what you identify with, and your habits, will all speak for themself. Silence is the loudest of them all. We thought the barf bags were the coolest thing ever. My parents were focused on getting there safely with everything in order and doing their best to keep my baby sister quiet on the plane. I asked my parents if they were worried at all about my brother and I swimming in the ocean. They agreed that neither of them were worried. “California has a lot of pollution and sewage in the ocean at the time”. “That ocean is so big it would take a lot of pollutants to make us worried about it. Lots of families were on the beach in Wilmington and Myrtle Beach area where we also went for a day” my mom said . “You and Joe noticed how salty the water was” she also mentioned. One day at the beach there was a dead, deformed looking creature washed up on shore. My dad told my brother and I to stay away from it. Growing up I really liked to eat tuna, but my dad said I could only have it once a week at the most because of the mercury in it. I follow that rule of his still to this …show more content…
He is a very loving man and happy majority of the time. But when he is mad, he gets mad. Not only is it in my father, but my Uncle who happens to be his twin brother. I also see it in my brother and my cousin. It is most prominent in my Grandpa. I don’t know why some old men can be so crabby, but goodness can they be. This is my theory: The Johnson theory, that no man can get as mad as a Johnson man can in terms of raising one 's voice. My (female) cousins have also talked about this as well, so I’m not in on this alone. When I was younger, I “dealt” with this my avoiding getting in trouble with my father. I don’t like it when people express their anger in terms of yelling. It does no good. I now know, it is something I avoid when seeking any relationship. As for habits, I have developed one I shall thank my mom for. I like to think I have an internal agenda in my brain. My dad could never remember any events of things coming up such as picking us up for school, or what he’s supposed to cook for supper. So my mom was constantly writing him notes as reminders, and still to this day. This has instilled in me a weekly and monthly schedule in my head. I often forget to use my planner because I don’t really have a problem remembering when different events and due dates are. I slip up sometimes, but usually I can stay right on track. Even in high school, I had all my
Both 1984 and The Handmaid’s Tale are dystopian novels, however, these books are a lot more complex than mere portrayals of dystopia, it can be argued that they are explorations of dystopia rather than mere portrayals. In order to explore dystopia, many themes must be considered, such as; feminism, love and repression. Nonetheless, it is apparent that human characteristics are the driving point of the two novels, predominantly, the depiction of human resilience. In an imperfect world, it is important to have certain qualities which, if plentiful, it can mean success, whereas if it lacks, it can mean failure, this characteristic is resilience. The protagonists in each novel, Winston in 1984 and Offred in The Handmaid’s Tale face situations which leave them both in disarray, and both even consider suicide. The authors tentatively highlight human resilience, its limits and most importantly its strengths into the two novels.

Among these cases the sole reasoning behind this oppression or hate being based on the perception of others. The films The Searchers and Avatar both make use of the master narratives of regulating social order and disorder. One is used as a way to reinforce this narrative, while the latter is shaped more towards critiquing the overall of ideal of the American social order. The struggle presented by an external threats in both films give the opportunity of interpreting and contrasting the master narrative and the effects that can come from imbalances in social orders.
The Great Gatsby, is beautifully written, and uses symbols effectively, drawing the reader in, and piquing their interest from chapter one to chapter nine. The use of color is most common in the novel, with the use of of many colors the author is able to subtly get his point across. Fitzgerald also uses locations like the Valley of Ash. Objects are used as a way to create mystery and suspense. The symbols help the reader understand the novel better by adding details that make the story more interesting.

Introduction Ignorance is bliss is most case but not in all as I came to realize reading these two vastly different books. In all societies, past, present and future there are fundamental variables that effect our needs. Having those needs met great determines the effects of one’s happiness. As you will find governments in all societies has a tremendous influence when dealing with physical, emotional and intellectual stability. The level of control and freedom allowed shapes the population and future communities.
I do believe we have obligations to the people who will be born in the year 2200. Although its hard to establish why we might have objections towards future generations. Basically the problem is defining what are these obligations and how can we get them done. However, classical humanistic utilitarianism states, we should try to maximize happiness for all people. The “all people” should cover the future generations as well.
The United States was built on the foundation of freedom. This freedom included the right to express one’s views without prosecution or limitation. This paved the way for the freedom to learn and pursue educational achievements. However, there are times when learning becomes halted in the interest of “appropriateness.” This is in reference to censorship. Censorship, by definition, is “the forbidding, blocking, limiting, or obstructing access to information for whatever reason.”(p248)1 This form of interference can prevent awareness and stint intellectual growth. Therefore, censorship should be used sparingly in education without political or religious motivation because the abuse of censorship negatively affects our education as a whole.
“Ignorance is bliss”. The English poet who said this was definitely not a marketer. For all we know, “Consumer awareness” is probably the most important part of marketing. In the era of digital marketing and social media, creating a buzz is the utmost priority of a marketer. But, is creating a buzz enough? New generation marketers say Yes. How?
“Learn to feel beyond yourself” (Earthlings). Oppression seems inevitable and is brought upon by your sex, race, or species. If only the human race could stop being selfish and feel beyond themselves, the world would be a better place. Oppression is not an ultramodern problem; it has been around since the Earth began to be inhabited. Oppression in India from foreign countries began centuries ago, now only the lasting impression sits. In Surat in 1612, the British built its first factory and founded the East India Company. As a result, many people of India encountered numerous hardships due to industrialization. Before the British conquered Indian lands, the Indians were farming and not technologically advanced. Until 1858, the East India Company quelled any Indian revolts and prolonged the rule of the British. The Indians were forced to acculturate to the English language, education system, religion, and controlling rules. A sepoy mutiny that broke out in 1857 to 1858 led the British to be directly in charge of the people. Sepoys were Indians with authority, but British puppets—meaning the Indian sepoys did anything the British demanded. India was granted self-rule and government in 1935 with the help of Gandhi, a peaceful leader who gained India’s independence, and his method of non-violence and non-cooperation. They did not gain their full independence until 1947 (Infoplease). The joy of the Indians did not linger long enough because the Muslims segregated and moved to their own country Pakistan (Infoplease). Seventeen million Muslims migrated to Pakistan—making it the largest migration ever. Two years later, India affirmed their ...
Ignorant or “lacking in knowledge or training”. Todays world values intelligence and equates the world ignorant with stupidity. They believe that if someone is not academically intelligent they are automatically ignorant. Ignorant is a word that is ambiguous to different people and cultures but is not solely based of how much academic knowledge someone has. I believe it depends on how they understand their surroundings, the world, if they take advantage of opportunities given to them, and how they analyze a situation.
My people will s...ay "matambayi baya bata"; which is literally saying those who ask will never get lost. And that is why I like people who are not too ashamed or egotistical to ask when they are lost as to why certain things happen or why they didn't, people who ask to know what happen and what didn't. Because only then will they know what actually happen.
I will never forget the first time I went snorkeling, it was something I had been afraid to do up until the moment I touched the water. Beforehand all I could think about was what if I got attacked by a shark? I was too young to die and I felt like I was tempting fate. Then once I made the plunge into the water everything washed away, as if the waves carried the fear with them as they folded over me. I remember that day so clearly, rocking back and forth, up and down, I sat on a small glass bottom boat. The enormous ocean waves making me nauseas as I put my snorkel gear on. I hurried as fast as I could, knowing my nausea would go away as soon as I entered the water. This wasn’t the first time I have gotten sea sick, but it only shows up when the boat is sitting still. As soon as I got my equipment on I jumped into the water, fins first. I felt the sensation of goose bumps shivering up my whole body, tiny bubbles rolling over my body from breaking the surface, they ran from my toes upwards to break free at the ocean’s surface. Once the bubbles cleared, I looked around to see a new blue world I have never experienced before. I heard the sound of the ocean, mumbled by the sound of my deep breathing and the tanks of the more experienced scuba divers below me. It’s a very relaxing and peaceful sound, and if I had not been in such a new and unusual place I could have floated with my eyes closed for hours.
