I read the picture book If you give a pig a party by Laura Nemeroff. This book is about a little girl who wants celebrate her pig's birthday, she is planing a lot of activities , such as the decoration, the games, and the the food. She realized that planning a birthday is a hard work because she has to keep happy to all pig's friends (different animals). This book has a lot of pictures to keep the children's attention when an adult is reading. I read it to my students and my daughter and they want to read it again and again.
I really enjoyed Dragonkeeper written by Carole Wilkinson. I recommend this book who loves fantasy and adventure novels. I learned the importance of friends through this book so I consider this book have a beneficent influence on young
The book which I chose to share called Peter’s Chair written by Ezra Jack Keats. In the story, there is a boy named Peter whose parents just have a new born baby. Peter notices many things have changed around his house. His parents paint his old cradle, high chair and crib in pink and give them to his baby sister. Peter knows he needs to do something to prevent giving away of his favorite chair. Therefore, Peter decides to run always with all his favorite things and his dog, Willie. While Peter is being outsides, he sits on his chair and realizes that he is too big to the chair. He goes back home and tells his father that he would like to paint the chair in pink and give it to his little sister.
Two novels that I could read over and over again, "The Joy Luck Club" by Amy Tan and "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café" by Fannie Flag. The two novels share similar qualities while conveying their different story lines.
The book I chose to read is called, Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder by: Richard Louv. I chose this book for a few different reasons. One reason I chose this book was because I’ m highly interested in the whole concept of the book and feel very passionate about its reasoning. I also thought it would be a great read to guide me towards a topic for my main project at the end of the Lemelson program. On the plus side, I “read” this book through audible, which enabled me to listed to the book on my drive to and from work everyday. I commonly do this because of my forty-five minute commute from Truckee to Spanish Springs.
The book I read was "Noah Webster, A Man Who Loved Words." It was written by Elaine Cunningham. The book has twelve chapters. The book has 176 pages in it. This book is a very good book. I would recommend it to anyone my age. The book was kind of sad also.
Ten Eggs in a Nest by: Marilyn Sadler and illustrated by Michael Fleming is a great example of this. This books fits in this category because it makes counting fun for kids and the illustrations allow to kids to participate in counting throughout the book. Children will not only think this book is funny but they will learn counting and even some easy addition too. After reading this book, I would bring in plastic eggs and have the children make their own nest and count out how many eggs are in their
Personally, not having a favorite picture book growing up it was fun to recall childhood memories while skimming the bookshelf. A Fly Went By written by Mike Mc Clintock is one that has always been fun to reading and looking over after so many years it is evident why a child would be intrigued. It all started with a small fly passing by very quickly and a small boy asking why he was in such a hurry the fly replied “I must get out of here” the frog is after me and when he asked the frog why he was after the fly he replied “I want no fly” the cat is after me and characters continue to be chased by something larger (“A Fly Went By”). The anticipation of what will come next is what keeps the audience pulled. The text rhymes keeping it fun to read and any beginner reader will stay engaged. The illustrations by Fritz Siebel seem to done with a done with a combination of
Coming from a different continent, and having a different lifestyle compared to American kids; growing up made me an extreme introvert. Never did I want to go to recess or frolic with the other kids. Fortunately, I was wise enough to fill that void with books and reading. Not any book would do, however. I needed one that was fast-paced, invigorating, and snappy to rivet me. Funny thing is that none of those qualities immediately
I evaluated Humphrey the Lost Whale by Wendy Tokuda and Richard Hall and illustrated by Hanako Wakiyama. This book was very interesting simply because they told a true story while still making it kid friendly. The watercolor images were beautifully illustrated. This book would be a fantastic tool to use when you are doing a lesson about marine life and their natural habitats. It also was a good lesson of people trying to help nature instead of hurting it.
For this assignment I selected Lilly’s Big Day by Kevin Henkes. It was published in 2006 by the Greenwillow Books publishing house. In this story Lilly finds out her favorite teacher, Mr. Slinger, is getting married. Lilly is determined to be the flower girl in his wedding. After practicing a bunch, Lilly finds out she will not be the flower girl. Mr. Slinger knows how important this was to Lilly so he makes her the flower girl assistant. Lilly saves the day at the wedding because she had been practicing and was able to help the real flower girl. This story teaches the importance of prating, and using your imagination. It even teaches the way you should act when you do not get something you really want. Lilly’s Big Day is 30 pages long with
Many significant novels have unfortunately been challenged/ banned at a certain point in time. Most of these literary classics face this because some contain sexual references, religious intolerance, and inappropriate language. Some cases books are being pulled off shelves because people believe that they were “tangibles of instruction” or the reason being was as a precaution towards a possible public attack which took effect in Tucson for the Mexican American Studies. (source:8) Another case is the Mozert v. Hawkins County Board of Education; Christian sewed the board because they believed that the required textbooks hurt their beliefs. (Source:8)
The first book that I chose was, Maria Had A Little Llama by Angela Dominguez. This book was a twist on the classic nursery rhyme Mary Had a Little Lamb. It had every page of the rhyme in both Spanish and English. I think this is a good way to introduce another language to young children because it is a rhyme and story that the children are familiar with. Although the story was a little bit different than the original nursery rhyme, it has an adorable twist where the llama follows Maria to school. Maria Had A Little Llama received the Pura Belpre Honor for her Illustrations. She was born in Mexico City and grew up in Texas. Her website is http://www.angeladominguezstudio.com/.
Life Lessons in “The Monkey’s Paw” by W.W. Jacobs and “The Third Wish” by Joan Aiken
Upon visiting the ‘’Roots of the Dinner Party,’’ at the Brooklyn Museum, I was enticed by this specific exhibition because I consider myself a feminist. Depending on who you speak to, everyone has their own opinion over Judy Chicago’s vision and work of art she beautifully created. When I arrived at the exhibition, I was blown away by the detail creating The Dinner Party. As i looked around exhibit, a singular plate that was encapsulated in a glass box struck out to me. It was painted with pastel colors ranging from pink, green, and blue. It’s light pink color alluded to the concept of how pink is often associated with women, but the green and blue reminded me of earth and how both of our existences are connected as one. Next to this plate
With John and Lorraine meeting on the bus, there was no room for any mortification to be felt during any time in their relationship. It all began when John became known as the “bathroom bomber,” for setting off small explosives during the afternoon in school. While causing mischief was John’s hobby, Lorraine’s included writing, and expressing herself through literature. Due to the two young ones sharing their eighth period class together, their personalities instantly came together and formed a friendship like no other. Through their telephone game with Dennis and Norton, John and Lorraine came across what we know as The Pigman, or Mr. Pignati. Having Mr. Pignati’s wife in supposedly California, he was longing for someone to talk to, and jumped
