Ideologies
An ideology is a set of ideas connected together that explain how government and society should be organized and what set of values the society should embrace. The concept of an ideology is a very slippery topic in that people range in the level or degree of their feelings. Ideologies are simplistic and not concerned about logic and consistency. This means that if they are either conservatives or liberal their ideas may vary slightly. Conservatives may have slight differences in the way they think about society. Their ideas are not clear cut or precise.
Ideologies contain a view of human nature. In other words, they tell what people are like. There are not clear-cut answers to who is right with their ideas. They are people's opinions. There are no right answers, but some seem to work better than others do.
Nazism is an ideology where a dictator rules all and runs the country himself. The people who join the party believe that there needs to be a single person in charge of the government in order for the country to be run correctly. A communist thinks everybody should be the same. Everybody gets paid the same for doing different degrees of work. No matter how disgusted people may feel about their views, they are ideologies and they are practiced none the less.
Liberals are very progressive and optimistic about people. They think that people are good when given a chance. They believe in lighter prison sentences for convicted criminals and blame crime on environmental factors like poverty. A big emphasis is on better education and job training for people who are being rehabilitated. Liberals think that all people can become "better" with rehabilitation and think prisons should emphasize on rehab. I believe that liberals would rather have freedom over order.
Conservatives on the other hand have a more pessimistic outlook on people. They believe that there will always be crime and poverty so why not increase jail time. Conservatives would also like to see harsher penalties given to convicted felons. Forget about the rehabilitation and start paying for the crime that was done. Build more prisons and send more people to them. Conservatives would rather have order over rights. Public order is more important to uphold so that there are fewer crimes.
The typical philosophical ideals of the liberals seem to focus on the government helping the little guy and leveling the playing field. They oppose tax cuts for the rich, they are distrustful of big-business and those who are wealthy. They like government programs that help minorities and those with lower incomes. They want to raise the minimum wage, provide better national healthcare and provide better unemployment and welfare coverage’s. They nearly always side with unions over management, the guy who sues the big business.
When it comes to my political beliefs, I am indecisive between being a Republican or a Democrat. The reason for this, is because I never really showed enough interest into learning more about politics. As for my politically ideology, I feel that I am more liberal than I am conservative. In theory, ideology is defined in two ways, “(1) Organized set of political attitudes based on underlying principles”, and “(2) a cohesive set of beliefs that form a general philosophy about the role of government” (McAtee). An Individual’s political ideology can be formed from public opinions and agents of socializations (McAtee). According to the quiz I took on “Politopia.com”, the results showed that I was “Centerville”, which means that I am in between of being a Democrat or a Republican, or that I support both sides and yet oppose to both sides.
Political ideology holds an important place when determining what to consider yourself as. The Republican Party holds a vision that is established on American traditions of family, community, and
Liberals usually have the perspective that the government should help the people much more than they do presently, with more programs such as welfare (etc.). Liberals generally agree that the government should intervene, regulate, and promote the economy and ensure fairness in society always. Government policies are indeed needed and necessary for citizens to fulfill their daily needs. Most also do agree with a "free-market" society, however, they stress the need for government policies.
A survey can be defined as a gathering of a sample of data or opinions considered to be representative of a whole. Such as when the United States government polls a random selection of people throughout the country to get an accurate reading of the people's overall prospective of what the American people think is best for the country. As I almost reach the age of eighteen, not only do I have to start worrying about my career and college, I have to affliate myself with a party and prepare to vote. I have taken three online polls and they all came out with similar results; I am a republican. The three polls I took were The Political Affiliation Quiz, The Political Quiz, and Political Compass. I liked them all but all for various reasons.
In a public, people share common ideologies among themselves. These ideologies are similar among individuals, but not identical for each individual. Furthermore, listening to people’s inside viewpoint clarifies what their public is. In contrast, outside viewpoints also helps clarify a public by providing different perspectives. Austin, Texas is known for a range of different reasons including the Capital, Activism, Culture, Music, and more. Yet, in general, Austin is a geographical city in Texas. What makes the Austin, Texas unique is its residents or Austinites. Austin’s diverse ideologies makes the public of Austin a world of its own.
The term ideological is defined as "a more or less consistent set of views as to the policies government ought to pursue." (Wilson, 116) I believe that I am ideological in my political thinking. I stand really strong on what I believe in and will always try to persuade people that my thinking is right. My opinion on spending more money on national security rather than welfare is strongly felt because I have been a victim where I suffered because the government spent too much money on welfare rather than national defense.
As defined by Merriam Webster, the term ideology refers to “a systematic body of concepts especially about human life or culture” (Ideology, definition 2a). In the socio-political realm, the term often refers to the reasoning or concepts supporting a political or cultural system that is beneficial to a ruling or powerful class. As a result of the more powerful class or race wanting to maintain the status quo and grasp on their power, this often leads to the oppression of their subordinate class or racial group. In a collection of texts previously analyzed for this class, Havel, Bonilla-Silva, and Stoltenberg all make pointed arguments concerning contemporary ideologies that are present in society. In each essay, the authors argue that these
Our spiritual journey starts in our childhood when religion is introduced. In many cases, our spirituality is introduced not only in our childhood but can also be discovered in adulthood. Ideology is a way of thinking that reflects the social needs and political doctrines of an individual or group. There are many different people and different circumstances that results in a variety of different ways of thinking, values and beliefs.
Liberals views on abortion is that a women has the right to do what a she wants to do with their own body a fetus is not a human life in the eyes of liberals it does not have separate individual rights. Liberals also say that the government should provide taxpayer funded for the women that cannot afford an abortion. Conservatives are disagreeing with abortion conservatives believe that abortion is the murder of a human being a unborn human baby has the separate rights of those of the mother. Conservatives also believe that taxpayer funds should not pay for abortions conservatives say why should the government pay for murder.
Liberals, on the left side of candidacy, tend to favor progress and change. Conservatives on the other side, the right side, tend to favor tradition and limit change. Social and political liberals tend to limit the involvement of government regulation and individual behaviors. They want to liberate suppressed voices and choices by adapting to the evolving needs of a nation and community. From being proc-choice to opposing government sponsored religious activity are just some of the few topics that politicians address and focus on in their political race as it garners a lot of interest. The other spectrum of favors broad government regulation of individual behavior. Contrary to favoring limited government regulation of individual behavior this
Both theories look good on paper but once they hit the real world they change due to alternating conceptions and individual influences. The root of the word anarchism comes from the Greek word anarchos, which means without ruler. The main philosophy behind anarchism is that people can reside in an unregulated community with no real authority and maintain a sustainable life. Anarchists see government and capitalism as an institution that creates liberty for the rich and enslavement of the masses. Emma Goldman best describes anarchism as: The philosophy of a new social order based on liberty unrestricted by man-made law; the theory that all forms of government rest on violence and are therefore wrong and harmful, as well as unnecessary.
Conservatism is an ideology consisted of ideas and beliefs that value social order and tradition. The question of whether or not conservatism is a coherent ideology is a highly debated topic. Conservatism can be seen as a disbelief to its critiques against other political ideologies such as liberalism. (Ruth, 2017) However, I believe the ideas of conservatism do make up a coherent ideology. Throughout this essay I will explain the reasons why I believe the ideas of conservatism make a legitimate ideology. The Oxford Dictionary defines an ideology as “a system of ideas and ideals, especially one which forms the basis of economic or political theory and policy.” Meaning that in order for a viewpoint to be deemed an ideology it must contain a
Fascism and Nazism were two predominant political ideologies during the beginning of the 20th century, more specifically around Hitler’s Germany and Mussolini’s Italy. Fascism and Nazism, have many similarities as well as other aspects to them that make them different from one another. These aspects each include political ideology when it comes to society, economics and gender.
Ideology is a set of beliefs or ideals that are followed by a group of people or an individual. These beliefs are then used as a format for political or economic systems. An example of one of these ideological systems is Republicanism, which is the belief that a
