In life someone’s identity are change by the events that happen in their lifetime or their actions. In the book, “Night,” by Elies Wisesl tells the story of the events of the Holocaust that happen to the Jews in Sighet. The Jews were once living their life like everyone else, until the events of the Holocaust destroyed it. The Jews were stripped of everything by the Nazi that made up their identity. They were treated so bad to the point that it seem unreal to those who didn’t experience it. The Jews that were involved in the events of the Holocaust, their identities were affected and change .
Many people identity was changed before and during the events that occurred during the Holocaust. Even before the Holocaust took place in Sighet, the place where the main character is from, the foreign Jews were the first to be targeted. One character identity in specific was changed. Moshe the Beadle, a poor person who was able to conceal his presence, and lived a humble life. He was part of the foreign Jews that were deported, but was able to escape alive back with injuries. Once he returned back, he was changed as Elizer, the main character, stated, “There was no longer any joy in his eyes. He no longer sang. He no longer talked to me of God or of the cabbala, but only of what he had seen” (Wiesel 04). After what Moshe the Beadle had witnessed, he was changed and no longer do anything, but went from house to house warning them of the events that are going to occur. But no one would heared him out and just took it as if he is just making things up. He grew sad and frustrated with himself and the people around him. ... Holocaust made a change in many peoples identities as it affected them. The book, “Night,” by Elie Wiesel tells how the Jews who were involved in the events of the Holocaust identity changes. Moshe the Beadle was part of the foreign Jews, that were targeted before the events of the Holocaust affected the Jews of Sighet. His identity changed because of what he saw happened to the foreign Jews, and he return to Sighet, with the purpose of warning everyone of what is going to happen. Throughout the whole book, Juliek was the only one was able to keep a part of his identity with him until his last moments. With the death of Elizer’s father, Elizer lost his identity as it dies with his father and a new identity formed. Everyone who was involved or affected by the events of the Holocaust, their old identity dies within them as their new identity represent who they are.
