IKTOMI Iktomi is a Lakota mythology character, who is known as Iktomi the Trickster, he is a spirit who is not evil but not virtuous. Before he was known as Woksape but he lost his name and position by helping the evil spirit Gnaskiyan by playing a trick on the other spirits in most of his stories he tries to make himself feel better by making others feel worse and playing tricks on them, but it turns around and he is the one who feels worse or he's the one who gets laughed at. To summarize, he is a sort of teacher in his stories, teaching lessons of right and wrong. The story starts with Cheyenne Brave noticing that his wife has been leaving the camp for a long amount of time, at first he thinks one of his brothers is courting her and sneaking away with her but none of the men are gone when she's gone. One day she came back wearing skin on her shoulders that she hadn't worn before, then one day when she left again and had been gone longer than usual and when she returned he had questioned her and gotten mad when she wasn't answering him and ripped the skin off her shoulders where he had found scratches on her shoulder. When he had asked her she had become scared and told him she had been charmed by a huge lonely bear that lived in a cave and had fallen for her and out of fear and wanting to keep her camp safe she had submitted to the bear and that is why she had scratches on her shoulders. Hearing what she said, her husband decided he was going to kill the bear. But when they had found the bear, it was massive and the men were frightened by it and it had struck and turned the woman into a bear. When the men tried to kill it, it ran into its cave and used its feet as a blockade. After shooting at the bear it came out and the men were scared so they ran up to a rock and prayed to the Great Spirit to help and he did by making the rock grow.
